I cannot stress this enough, GO! It is amazing! The people are amazing! The philosophy is amazing! The leadership is amazing! These people helped me through some dark times and help me to succeed. If you don't think your athletic or strong, go and be with people. Watch, move slow, and just be present. The culture is so incredibly fenominal. This place is far beyond BJJ, it's a haven or love, Respect, discipline, and improvement.

BHBJJ I stumbled across BHBJJ while in was looking for some way to stay active and learn a new skill. People were friendly and welcoming, and the teaching was well planned and easy to follow. Students range from hobbyists to competitors, and I would highly recommend anyone thinking about learning a new skill and willing to be humbled to check out Black Hills BJJ.

Going on two years as a student at this academy and I have family members who have been training longer. I have nothing but good things to say. A fantastic kids program, even for the very young ones. Family friendly and incredibly flexible, this place is welcoming even for those who just want to come learn and experience something new. Classes are broken out into various experience levels making jiu jitsu didigestable for anyone. Also a great female presence, which is hard to find.

I highly recommend Black Hills Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu!! Our son came to us at age 15 wanting to learn jiu-jitsu. He reached out to the owner, Jeremy and he invited him to come try it out to see if he liked it. We had no experience with jiu-jitsu and had no idea what to expect. Everyone there was so welcoming and great! It quickly became a feeling of family. My husband and I both say that if we could start over with raising our kids, one thing we would do is start both our son and daughter at BHBJJ when they were young. This place truly changed my son's life!

Jeremy and Tyler work hard to promote a culture of respect and a family friendly environment where you and your family can reach your goals. I highly recommend BHBJJ.

Our whole family has been going to BHBJJ since we moved here back in 2020. It is an amazing gym with fantastic people. Kids are able to learn not only Jiujitsu but many life long skills. It’s an extremely welcoming place for both adults and kids. I plan to get back to the mats once the smallest is big enough to let me. They are like family.

I've been to a few gyms in the area, but this place is on another level. It’s always clean, well-maintained, and the environment is positive and welcoming—zero drama, zero toxicity. The instructor is a top-notch Galvao black belt: highly skilled, patient, and truly invested in each student's progress. Classes are structured to challenge you while still being accessible, no matter your skill level. It’s a place you actually look forward to coming back to every day. If you're looking for serious training without any of the usual nonsense, this is the gym to go to. Highly recommend!

I have known Professor Jeremy, the owner and operator, since a was an 11 year old boy. He has ALWAYS gone above and beyond to share his absolute passion and genius for all things martial arts with everyone around him. This school that he runs is birthed out of a philosophy that precipitates respect, learning, discipline and most importantly fun. There is not a better place in all of South Dakota for a person to learn real, practical, self defense while also having a blast staying in shape, and most importantly; while building lasting friendships. Simply the best place for martial arts. OSS!

It helped build humble confidence and emotional control in all of my kids, which are skills they continue to carry with them in everything they do. Every time we step in the door we always feel a sense of warm welcome and belonging. The grounded and virtue-centered culture of this gym makes it a hard place to beat!

So extremely thankful for Black Hills Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. We initially were trying to find something for our two very timid and shy boys. This place with the guidance of some amazing instructors has not only brought out confidence in my children but they have gained some lifelong friendships as well. The amount of ladies that train is also a huge plus for me! I love that we have found a gym that we can belong as a family. The true kid friendly environment is top notch and I am so thankful we decided to walk through their doors at the beginning of this year.

My son had an excellent experience here. He was new to the program, and we came in totally blind. Tyler is amazing with the kids; extremely patient and great at teaching jiu jitsu. I saw progress in my kid from week to week and was impressed with the momentum. My 5 year old also came to the beginner class with smaller kids. She didn't love jiu jitsu, but she gained so much confidence in herself from just a few months; in addition to feeling stronger and more coordinated. I would definitely recommend BHBJJ, whether for recreation or competitive!

My family and I started our BJJ Journey at Black Hill's nearly a year ago. It has been a warm inviting space from day one. My younger kids (7 and 9) love the kids' class and the instructors. They keep it fun and challenging. The adult beginner class is top notch and teaches the basics to continue on to the standard classes. With the many class times available, they make it easy to train and continue this journey. All the instructors take time to show the proper technique and understand that everyone learns differently.

My shy kiddo takes time to learn and understand what’s going on and the instructors take their time to help her to succeed. My wild child is learning patience and self control/ self discipline. As a beginner, BJJ took me out of my comfort zone very quickly, but the coaches are so great at what they do that I only got hungry for more! Can’t say enough good things about BHBJJ!! I’ve been training here for a little over a year and have been waiting to write a review. Initially I was scared about going in, because I could tell by their website and photographs of the academy and from Facebook, seeing how many tournaments they’ve won, that this was definitely the best school in the Black Hills area. I falsely assumed that these guys were probably really cocky and mean, because they were the best, like Cobra Kai in the Karate Kid lol. I could not have been more incorrect!! I had been wanting to train for months, but was unable due to working two jobs, I could only research about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. As soon as I quit my second job, I faced my fears and went to the academy, determined to train, telling myself I didn’t care if they were a-holes, I wanted to learn! When I went in, I was extremely surprised to meet the most humble, kind hearted, gentle, friendly group of people/trained killers I’ve ever met!! It seems like it is often the case that the people who are the best at Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or in MMA are often the most humble and kind people, because they don’t have to act cocky, tough, or try and prove anything, because they know they can destroy 99% of the population. Anyways, Jeremy let me borrow a gi 🥋, try out classes for a month for free, I think it went a little over and I ended up asking him about starting to pay! As far as Martial Arts go it is very laid back, you don’t have to call him Sensei or most of the usual formalities that most Martial Arts require. But the training is serious. Jeremy is a superb teacher, very calm, patient, attentive, and hilarious also, he makes learning a lot of fun on top of how fun & addicting BJJ already is! His Jiu Jitsu knowledge is immense, he knows all of the small details that are important in BJJ and learning under him I get a lot out of each and every class. His skills as an instructor are very evident in the men & women that have trained under him for years are also all experts and win tons of matches & tournaments all over. Don’t hesitate to come in and check out the Academy, there really is no good reason not to!!
