TLDR - Clean mats, good techniques, fun classes. If I was a local I'd definitely be a regular. I dropped in to two classes when I was staying nearby, the area is a bit of a dead zone due to rent costs and BJJ not typically being a big money maker. Vini runs a relaxed and welcoming class. Easy to book in via the website. Mats and the gym area are kept to a high standard, didn't feel like I was gambling with skin infections at all. Classes were CLA/Ecological focussed, and not so 'move of the day' style. No militant style yelling/burpees/punishments that some gyms adopt, big focus on doing things safely and pleasantly. Small classes as it seems to be a relatively new gym, which can be good or bad depending on the experience of the classmates. Great gym, lovely guy. Pop in and have some fun.

Vini runs a great Brazilian Ju Jitsu class for kids. He demonstrates the skills clearly and uses fun games to get their bodies moving. My kids have thoroughly enjoyed the classes.

Our 5-year-old son started BJJ at BJJ Freo last term with no previous martial arts experience and it’s been such a great journey for him already. The classes are energetic, fun, and structured in a way that really encourages focus, discipline, and confidence. We’ve been so impressed by how the instructor meets the kids where they’re at, while still gently challenging them to grow. Beau has stayed engaged, calm, and motivated each week. It’s also been wonderful seeing how the instructor builds confidence in a really grounded way. If you’re considering BJJ for your child, even if they’ve never tried anything like this before, I can’t recommend BJJ Freo enough. The care, encouragement, and quality of teaching here is something really special.

The lesson I attended was thoughtfully put together, and Vini was flexible in the delivery such that individual needs were catered for and accommodated. I felt welcomed and supported. I also appreciate the format of a drop in session as it suits my busy life! Highly recommended.
