I went to my first ever Jiu-Jitsu class today, and I’ve never done any kind of martial arts before. I was a little nervous going in, but that went away immediately—the instructors and students were all super friendly, helpful, and welcoming. I had so much fun, Gwen was a great instructor! I’ll definitely be coming back weekly
The intro class was so warm and welcoming! I loved that everyone was at a different skill (coordination 😀) level and got encouraging ways to improve. The entire experience was great!
How do I give it 6 stars? The mats? Absolutely pristine—did they replace them just for me? The coaches? Lighthearted, caring, and absolutely empowering. They create a safe and fun environment where you’re pushed to grow, no matter your level. I dropped in for a takedown class with Philip, and it was phenomenal. He had us drilling breakfalls and running a hand fighting game that felt like BJJ + chess + four lokos. His German accent added a cool flair to his teaching style is clear, fun, and packed with technical gems—I left feeling both challenged and inspired. The community is incredibly welcoming and diverse. From the moment you walk in, you’re part of the family, and everyone’s genuinely rooting for you. Whether you’re a regular or a visitor. this place just hits different. Highly recommend this gym for anyone looking to train, grow, and be part of an amazing group of people. Six out of five stars all day!
I was introduced to Ballard Jiujitsu when I was in need of a place to train while my gym was out of commission. I was graciously welcomed by the members. The gym is clean and open. The professors are friendly and engaging. Recommend dropping in and at least trying a class if you are curious.
Love, love, love this gym! Everyone here is very nice and supportive of your learning, from all teachers to students. I appreciate how welcoming and accommodating the gym is as people will try to meet you where you are at on your bjj journey. If you are interested in getting jnto/practicing bjj, this is the place you want to be at ❤️🔥 come hang out!
My son and I come to Ballard Jiu Jitsu and we love the fun and supportive atmosphere! It’s a great place for beginners with an experienced staff of teachers providing great instruction.
LGBTQ friendly, accessible, great folks!
Great community! The coaches are so good with the kids!
Thanks for your great hospitality during the Chewy seminar!!
Great gym! 5 black belt instructors. Easy going but the hard rolling is there when you’re ready. Focus is exclusively bjj (gi and no-gi) so a good place to gain mastery of the sport rather than brief cross training for MMA. Highly recommend!
BallardBJJ is an amazing gym with excellent instruction! The owners are all very welcoming and it’s a nice, clean and spacious gym. I have been a nomad Blue Belt for a little while and they have always made me feel like a part of the family. Thanks BBJJ!
I trained here for a few months before moving out of the state for work . This place is an incredible environment with great instructors. Would highly recommend if anyone is interested in jiu jitsu, this is a great place to get started .
Every one is friendly and willing to help each other.
Fantastic place to train with experienced, approachable instructors with a great community focus.
My son start training here 10 years ago as a kid. I started training here 8 years ago after seeing how much fun my son was having. Ballard Jiu Jitsu has truly been apart of our extended family. There's 5 different black belts that teach classes. Ballard Jiu Jitsu is a safe and clean place to train too. Its a school that is for everyone to learn jiu jitsu!
My kids and I love it here! We've been coming for a little over half a year, and love the safe and family friendly community. There are a fantastic group of purple and black belt instructors, who are welcoming to all levels and abilities. It's awesome they scheduled kid classes, and then adult classes right afterwards so the whole family can join. In addition to the kids classes, BJJ hosts regular womens-only, LGBTQ+, and those with injuries classes. I'm glad I found this community!
While traveling, I messaged Ballard Jiu Jitsu about a drop in. They were great hosts, friendly and attentive. I had a great time at that class and rolling afterward.
Ballard BJJ is the best!!! Great welcoming community and great jiu jitsu :)
I joined Ballard JJ almost nine years ago, and the fellowship + support I've felt have been unparalleled. Whether you want to try out Jiu-Jitsu for the first time or you're looking for a new Jiu-Jitsu home, I couldn't recommend Ballard JJ highly enough.
Great place to train jiu jitsu. Everybody is super welcoming and happy to share their knowledge. I have benefitted greatly from the roster of high-level coaches, each of whom brings a unique style to their teaching so there is something in there to take away for every student, regardless of prior experience.
I have not officially started at Ballard BJJ but the help I have received with questions and advice on getting started and set up. They just want you to have the opportunity to get going and started. I have 2 friends that go to Ballard BJJ with their families and are a true example of the great people involved there and the positive environment that they want for everyone to succeed.
The community at Ballard Jiu-Jitsu is welcoming and fun. Everyone is there to grow and learn together no matter what skill level. If you're interested in trying Jiu-Jitsu I can't recommend them enough.
Is a great experience training here! Everyone is enthusiastic, supportive and has a strong sense of community. All the instructors are knowledgeable, passionate and patient. Whether you’re thinking of starting or have been training for years you’ll find culture here to be very welcoming!
Great gym facility with top notch instructors and a good, welcoming vibe. Kids classes are run appropriately and with the same quality and care as the adult classes. Highly recommend!
Went here for an open mat a while back, had a great time rolling. They also have a very nice facility 5/5
This place is amazing. I started training here a year ago and everyone from the instructors to the students were warm and welcoming. Its special to find a community like this where you feel encouraged to get better. I've had to take time off recently but have been itching to get back. If you ever thought about taking a BJJ class, this is the best place to start.
This is an outstanding jiu jitsu studio. The quality of instruction is top notch, the community is welcoming and inclusive, and the newly remodeled facility is the nicest I’ve ever had the opportunity to train at. If you are looking for world-class Jiu Jitsu instruction at a school with great camaraderie and zero toxic ego nonsense, you’re likely to find a home here. Highly recommended.
Ballard Jiu Jitsu is an incredible place and community. All of the professors are exceedingly welcoming and knowledgeable. My family of three loves to train with the Ballard crew! Finding Ballard Jiu Jitsu was a life-changing experience for us and we, as a family, are so grateful to have such an amazing community to go on this journey with!
Very friendly gym with instructors who are passionate about jiu jitsu, keep the mats squeaky clean, and will make you feel welcome. Would definitely recommend dropping in if you're interested.
Great place to train BJJ, everyone is super friendly and the coaches are legit
This Jiu-Jitsu place has friendly instructors, nice people, and it's a great learning environment. I hope that this business grows in its beautiful community.
Ballard Jiu Jitsu is a wonderful community. My family and I love training together there. They are chill, respectful and inclusive. The instructors love Jiu Jitsu and teaching it.
I recently started Jiu Jitsu at Ballard BJJ and it has been a wonderful experience. The facility is nice and very clean. The instructors are friendly, knowledgeable and have created an incredibly inclusive and friendly environment. I highly suggest giving Ballard Jiu Jitsu a look.
I’ve been coming here for about a year and absolutely love it. Instructors are great and the community is amazing.
The third bjj gym I’ve trained at, and my favorite gym and group of humans yet!
Amazing people, quality instruction, and a wonderful environment to learn and train at all levels. We are lucky to have this academy in the area.
Amazing gym. I have been a part of a few different types of martial arts gyms, and this is by far the best I have experienced. The instructors are all incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and fantastic at breaking down complex topics. Whether you are looking to train for a comp, or just start learning, this is the perfect place to join. They truly embrace the “all are welcome” mindset, and actually take steps to make everyone feel welcome. Can’t recommend highly enough!
If you are looking for a place to learn Brazilian jiujitsu, you would benefit greatly from Ballard Jiujitsu. The classes are taught by black belts. The camaraderie is genuine and friendly. The professors are patient and supportive. The ambience is immediately welcoming of every student. The teaching is excellent and encouraging. I have been bringing my son to Ballard Jiujitsu for years. The children’s classes are incredibly fun, and they are wonderful for kids to gain confidence and learn jiujitsu in a safe environment. Now my son is in the adult classes - the transition has been seamless, because the camaraderie is great: the kids who move to the adult courses know many of the faces and names already from their years of being taught by the same professors. Ballard Jiujitsu provides a family-friendly place to learn, and it also provides a fabulous gym for people who want to compete in jiujitsu tournaments. The professors have themselves competed and continue to compete, and they will give hands-on, group, and one-on-one instruction. They want their students to succeed, and they especially want everyone to enjoy the art of jiujitsu as much as they do.
Micah Reyes is a profound instructor. Its a safe place to cultivate yourself your mind body and soul into something more. I recommend this place 100%
Great school. So many black belts to learn from. Lots of open mat time. Fun, friendly place to choke and joint lock your friends.
Ballard Jiu Jitsu is a wonderful school; I've been going there for more than three years now. The (many) excellent professors each have their own styles and approaches and all are dedicated to teaching clearly and thoroughly. The school welcomes all abilities and aptitudes and folks are genuine and friendly. If you're new and want a relaxed introduction to Jiu Jitsu, it's hard to imagine a better place. If you want to go hard and compete, you'll find awesome training partners at all levels and a wall of medals for inspiration. If Jiu Jitsu has been on your "maybe someday" list, Ballard BJJ is the perfect place to begin. If you're travelling or moving into the neighborhood, check them out, you won't be disappointed!
A welcoming gym for all types. They really cultivate a culture of inclusivity and everyone, especially white belts, are encouraged to roll with upper-belts to get better. There's something for anyone to learn here.
I started training bjj here a year ago and have come to completely love the sport and even more the school and people here. Everyone is friendly and welcoming, and they genuinely care about teaching and helping people improve. I can't recommend it enough.
I started training at Ballard Jiu Jitsu (formerly Gracie Barra Ballard) about one and a half years ago and and absolutely love it here. The technique by our many professors is as good as it gets and we range from kids of four year's old to our competition team that goes as hard as any team, anywhere. If you're looking for an awesome place to train with cool peeps, this is your spot. Sign up and get after it!
