Absolutely LOVE this gym! Starting anything new is always a little bit scary, but Morgan has created such a safe and welcoming environment, that I felt like I was part of the crew the first time I ever went there. Being a woman in a mostly male dominated sport can definitely be intimidating but I have never felt that way at Morgan’s, everyone there is so nice and helpful. There’s a great range of students who are beginners, to some seriously talented upper belts that know their stuff. If you’re just starting your jiu jitsu journey, Morgan is an excellent teacher who explains things clearly, making sure everyone understands what he’s teaching them, and he’s always happy to answer questions or demonstrate moves. Supporting local is very important to me and we are so incredibly lucky to have someone of Morgan’s caliber in our small town. I couldn’t recommend this gym enough!!!

Wonderful people, peaceful environment. The most flexible gym I have been to, with some very humble and talented people. Morgan is super knowledgeable, and is a very patient and thoughtful coach to learn from. You will have an easy time making strong connections in this place, and it has earned my highest regards for any bjj establishment I have visited.

The best BJJ gym you'll find. I have trained at several BJJ gyms around the world and none compare to the instruction and atmosphere of Avilla. Coach Morgan and all his students are welcoming. All ability levels, ages, and genders belong training here.

Ive trained here maybe 8 classes. Morgan runs a clean gym with respectful members. He is thorough with instruction but hands off enough to let you learn on your own through rolling (sparring).The culture here is very relaxed. So far of the 3 gyms ive trained at this is my favorite.

I contacted Avilla BJJ to see if they allowed drop ins. I travel to the area regularly and was looking to supplement my training while out of town. They responded quickly and were very helpful with the class schedule and pricing. When I arrived I was greeted by the owner Morgan Avilla, a Black belt under Cassio Werneck. For those of you who don’t know, Cassio is one of the pioneers of BJJ in the Sacramento area. The facility is very clean and organized. They have changing rooms and a no bare fee off the mats policy that lets you know you don’t have to worry about their awareness of cleanliness. Everyone in the class was very welcoming, I never felt like an outsider even though this was my first time at the academy. The instruction was very thorough, and Morgan was good at getting to anyone that might have needed minor details worked out. I haven’t visited any of the other BJJ spots in the area, but I would definitely recommend Avilla BJJ to anyone that is looking for a place to train. #OSS 🤙🏻
