I have been a WING CHUN student of SIFU COTTREL for one year, so far. I just enrolled in Praying Mantis as well. I have researched SIFU COTRELL extensively to understand the person as a human being. When I presented my text, he was modest about many things of his past, to the point of asking me, "Where did you learn all these things?” ... some of the activities of his past, he did not remember very well anymore. His experience and genealogy in WING CHUN, PRAYING MANTIS and TAI CHI was extensive and meticulous and I invited myself to research all his genealogy within the art, so we the students and families could really appreciate where his vast knowledge and experience comes from. Upon revising all three panels, he was humble, very surprised, and asked me "How Did You Find All This Data?". My response was straight forward: I Know where to Look, SIFU. This past year gave me the opportunity to know his character well and my respect for the SIFU the man and SIFU the teacher never stopped growing up in large waves. Many times, I thought to myself, My SIFU is the most HUMBLE person I ever met, I am amazed with the knowledge of the Martial Arts in general and Chinese Kung Fu in particular. I wish all my teachers throughout primary school, High School, College and University would be only half what he is to me. In my long career I have made mistakes, like everybody else, and bounced back on the right track. That is why I really appreciate his capacity to undergo through similar processes, and when I told him about some of my bad decisions, he simply told me, IT IS ABOUT HOW YOU RECOVER BACK TO YOUR CHOSEN TRACK THAT MATTERS IN THE END ... IT IS THE KUNG FU OF LIFE. My exposure to the Martial Arts is very extensive and started with JUDO & KARATE when I was in High School in Mozambique, later I enrolled In KUNG FU when I lived in Johannesburg, South Africa with THE SHAOLIN MARTIAL ARTS CENTER, became a Si-Bah and taught as an instructor till 1979. Did extensive research back then, when we had no Internet to do it, but today it has become a lot easier. I Praise my SIFU for who he is today and allowed me the privilege to get to know him so well. Today I am a very old man, the oldest in the school, and I already have trouble to execute many movements given my age, but thanks to him, I will never give up. The best school in TEXAS. THANK YOU SIFU COTTRELL. Walter.

I would like to thank Sifu Steve Cottrell, Steve Richmond, and the Authentic Kung-Fu family for sharing their Wing Chun. Special thanks to senior students and good friends who started teaching me as much as Sifu taught them.

Sifu Cottrell is the best. Some kind of crazy Kung-Fu savant. The most honorable and respectful. Most informed. This school is the best in America. Sifu Cottrell should be the Grandmaster of Wing Chun. Come on man. He beat the Chinese on their own soil, with the Praying Mantis Drunken form. He was asked by the family of the late Grandmaster of Praying Mantis to write his eulogy. Sparking outrage in his Chinese students. This is the best of the best when it comes to Kung-Fu in any country.

Since 02/22, I’ve been taking Taichi Chaun as a martial art from Sifu Steve Cottrell and his advanced students whose teaching he supervises. If you want to see what “authentic” in his school’s name really means, visit a TaiChi class or a class for adults in Wing Chun or Praying Mantis Kung Fu or a class for children in Mantis and note the spectrum from beginning-to-advanced students (men and women), some who have been his students for decades. I can’t say what you would “get” from other martial arts instructors (though at greater financial cost) in our area; but, with Sifu Cottrell, you will recoup much more than your money’s worth as a member of his “martial arts family”. He comes by his expertise from more than 50 years of practicing what he preaches, training with masters, fighting and having gold from China to prove it. He’s quality as a person and as a martial arts master. If you’d like a character reference, ask Thang-Hoa at Arlington’s Lang Son Martial Arts Supplies. Parenthetically, you need to know who’s writing this: I’m 83 years old; and my wife is 80, has a touch of Parkinson’s, and also is signed-up for Tai Chi. I have nidan rank in Judo and have taught it at the collegiate level. I encourage you to check-out Sifu Cottrell’s “family”.

I came here to get information about Wing Chun lessons. I was met by Sifu Steve. He informed me that I need to check out the different styles before making an informed choice. I chose Wing Chun over Praying Mantis as it resonated with me more. My point is this school is of integrity, they are knowledgeable and welcoming. Five stars all the way
