Amazing Environment with HIGH level instruction Dropped into an afternoon class taught by a world class black belt. Was welcomed and greeted by everyone. Learned a high level beirimbolo sequence that was broken down for all level of training partners. Sparing was a fun and safe time as well with a good mix of sweat and lessons. If you live in or are visiting the area please give this gym a chance. Thank you again to professors Art and Matheus!
Posted 7 months agoThis gym has had such a positive impact for my daughters and I alike. We enrolled our daughters last summer in the tinys class. We homeschool so the lunch time classes have been perfect for us. At 30, I decided to train as well after not being in martial arts for a good ten years and zero experience in any grappling. All of the staff, coaches/professors here have been super encouraging, patient, kind & awesome to train with.
Posted 7 months agoBoth my kids come here and love it!!! The instructors are wonderful and so is the instructor to child ratio. The classes are run so efficiently. Not only are they great at teaching the skills to all different level and ages of the kids, but they also teach and expect discipline and respect. Can’t say enough good things! Just that I wish we had started sooner!
Posted 7 months agoArt of War has been an great experience for my daughter. The program has helped her come out of her shell, significantly boosted her confidence, and provides an excellent workout. The facility is always clean and well maintained, and the instructors genuinely care about the children. They emphasize discipline not only during class, but also in everyday life, which has made a positive impact at home as well. I highly recommend Art of War to any family seeking a supportive and structured environment for their child.
Posted 7 months agoThis place is great. From the first day i came, the environment was welcoming. The front desk is great, i got a tour right away and they are very friendly. I got paired with Coach Evan! He is amazing as a coach, and very knowledgeable about the fight game. Coach Mike is also great, and takes his time to explain things. This gym is the complete package, with Professor Art overseeing everything this is a great time. He and Miss Sarah does a great job at running the gym. Miss Sarah got me on a plan and she really takes her time with going over everything with you!
Posted 9 months agoTrained there tonight, Art was awesome and the guys were tough - thanks for the work. Would definitely recommend.
I’ve been training at Art of War Jiu-Jitsu in Orange Park, FL, for several months now, and it has been an amazing experience. The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable, supportive, and patient, helping students of all levels improve their skills. The classes are well-structured, and the training environment is welcoming and inclusive. Whether you're a beginner or more advanced, there's a strong sense of community, and everyone is willing to help each other out. I highly recommend Art of War Jiu-Jitsu to anyone looking to improve their Jiu-Jitsu game or try it out for the first time!
This was my third school. Never been to the new building though. Really enjoyed my time there. The owner is great. Help me out a lot Over my two years there. I had a lot of fun and I learned a lot. I would definitely recommend this place for the orange park area.
10/10 Gym & Staff
Top notch Training! Wonderful staff, clean gym, good people
More Than Just a Gym—A Community : I’ve seen a lot of martial arts academies, and what sets Art of war jiujitsu apart is the dedication and passion behind it. The recent review that the owner is “money hungry” is completely unfair. Yes, there’s a uniform policy that includes wearing the academy’s gear on certain days, but that’s a common practice in many successful gyms. It helps build team spirit and supports the brand that Arthur has worked so hard to create. But here’s what people don’t talk about , how much Arthur gives back. He organizes events, helps students travel for competitions, offers discounts, and constantly reinvests in the academy to make it a better place for everyone. This isn’t just a business for him; it’s a passion and a mission. If you’re looking for a place to train where you’ll get high-quality instruction, a supportive environment, and a coach who truly cares, Art of war jiujitsu is the right place. Don’t let one misleading review stop you from experiencing it for yourself
I had a great experience at the tournament hosted by Art of War BJJ. The event was well run, organized, and had a great atmosphere. You can tell they put a lot of effort into making sure everything runs smoothly. The facility is top-notch, and the people there were welcoming and professional. Definitely a great place for anyone in the jiu jitsu community!
I’ve been going here for a few months now and I attend both there BJJ & MMA programs and I really enjoy going here, the staff, coaches &, professors are actually really genuine and great, they took me and taught and trained me with passion for the two sports, I would definitely recommend this place to all my friends/peers and I’m really excited that I found this place, the growth just within the pass few months has been mind blowing and I like the people I train/spar with! Definitely excited to continue to grow and see what the future holds for me
I started BJJ at AOW at the very young age of 40!!! Totally impressed by the knowledge of the coaches, positive attitudes, and growth. The 8 week fundamentals class is a great start for newbies. I highly recommend for all age groups and skill types. You’ll feel like you’re part of a cool family.
My daughter does the Jrs class and loves it! She’s always coming home with a new friend and move to try on her little brother. We love the feedback she gets from the instructors! All the staff is always super nice and helpful.
I was Invited to try Art Of War jujitsu by a trusted friend. Getting back into combat sports at my age and fitness level was not on my check list for 2025. I decided to stay after meeting the owners/ the professor and the coach. This facility is very clean and have the most positive people that's willing to help you grow. I would recommend it to anyone that's looking to get fit all the way to people that's looking to compete.
I can't express how much my kids LOVE coming to Art of War Jujitsu. The entire atmosphere is extremely inviting. I was looking to find some type of martial arts class for my boys. A friend of mine suggested AOW, her son has been coming to classes for a while and loves it. So when they created the homeschool program, I jumped at the opportunity! Sarah is extremely friendly and so sweet. She suggested my kids try an evening class out to see if it was the right fit. My youngest absolutely loved it, my oldest felt a little overwhelmed. He did the homeschool class and absolutely LOVED it. Just in 3 weeks of classes my boys have become more confident. Coach Mike and Scott are awesome coaches! They help the kids feel great about themselves, build their strength, confidence, integrity and all around knowledge of Jujitsu! I love that Professor Arthur (the owner) jumps in and gives the kids his expertise knowledge and helps them perfect their skills as they are learning. He truly is passionate about teaching the art of Jujitsu. After every class my boys talk about how much fun they have and can't wait for the next class!!! Join! You won't be disappointed!!!!
We love AOW! Best of the best, the coaches are amazing! Our son loves going to class. Discipline and skills focused. You won’t find a better place!
We’ve been coming to AOW for more than two years. They have multiple class times for all ages. We’ve been doing the homeschool class for about a month now and it is amazing. The coaches and staff are all top notch. Highly recommend stopping in and signing up.
Best gym I could have picked to start learning the art of jiu jitsu. If your are new to jiu jitsu, or mma they will walk you through every technique step by step in the fundamentals class. You won’t be thrown to the wolves. For me it’s the best hr of the day and i absolutely love it.
Been coming for a few months 3-4 days a week and it’s become the highlight of my day.
A 5 Star Rating with close to 300 reviews speaks for itself! Professor Art and his team are absolutely amazing!!!
Good atmosphere, great community, gym and coaches. Very welcoming community recommend to anyone and everyone. Great experiences and every class is more fun than the last and you meet great people as well.
The owner is an awesome guy! He has a phenomenal team here they are very welcoming to new people, very helpful and respectful!
From the day I walked in to the day I left, I experienced friendly people, a lot of encouragement, and valuable information. I joined the MMA class with no prior knowledge or experience in combat sports. Naturally, I was nervous, but everyone was very welcoming, and I quickly felt comfortable. I started coming every week, learning a lot about self-defense and getting in some great cardio. I highly recommend it!
From the moment I walked through the door, I felt completely welcomed and at ease. Professor Art, Coach Mike, and Sarah all go above and beyond to create an incredible training environment. Sarah is especially helpful and attentive to the students’ needs, ensuring everyone feels supported and valued. The atmosphere is friendly and inclusive, with no bad attitudes—just a strong sense of community. They emphasize safety, family values, and top-notch sanitation, making it clear they truly care about their members. Whether you’re new to jiu-jitsu or a seasoned practitioner, this gym is the perfect place to train and grow. Highly recommend!
Awesome instructors friendly environment definitely one of the best gyms I've crossed trained at.
Everyone here has been absolutely fantastic. I’ve never felt more welcome. I was starting out as a complete beginner, having zero clue what I was doing and they have helped me every step of the way. Not only have the instructors been amazing, but the fellow members have also been kind and gracious. I’m so happy we found our home at Art Of War.
Absolutely love this academy. I’m 61, my son is 15, and my daughter is 13. We recently moved here from Astoria Oregon. My kids have been doing Jiu Jitsu for several years. Myself around a year. Our mission was to find an academy and continue our Jiu Jitsu journey. Art of War Jiu Jitsu academy solidified our mission. Professor Art has over 5 years as a black belt, veteran, and a family man. Amazing human being who has surrounded himself and his academy with caring, respectful, very knowledgeable team that will surpass anyone’s expectations and standards of excellence. The academy has so much to offer Jiu Jitsu , MMA, Wrestling, self defense, and more. Art of War has earned its respect from me and my kids. Don’t let age or fear be your reason for not at least checking this academy out and make the investment to self grow. They have several affordable plans and options for you to choose from. I look 👀 so forward to seeing you on the mats. Bushongfamily
My child has been attending class for 5 months. The growth has been immeasurable. His attention and focus have grown in class, home, and at school. They focus on each child and meet each child where they are at that day. They have a team of talented coaches that truly care for each child. I highly recommend.
Art of War Jiu Jitsu is home to an incredible team of instructors who make the academy truly stand out, with honorable mentions going to Coach Mike (Michael) and Professor Art. Coach Mike’s excitement to teach is contagious, as he brings unmatched energy, patience, and a knack for breaking down techniques in a way that resonates with students of all levels. His passion for helping others grow is evident in every class. Meanwhile, Professor Art exemplifies the heart of Jiu Jitsu with his deep expertise, calm leadership, and unwavering commitment to student success. His enthusiasm for sharing his knowledge creates a motivating and inspiring atmosphere. Together, they foster an environment that is both challenging and supportive, ensuring every student thrives on and off the mats.
Can’t say enough great things about this place!! First the amazing staff coaches and professor go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and welcomed the second you walk through the door. The gym's cleanliness is a step above and definitely a priority. They offer a great wide array of class for ju-jitsu , wrestling , mma and strike fit. There scheduling is perfect they have classes as early as 5am a lunch class at 1130 also mid day kids class and adults at nigh starting at 6 Me my wife and my kids are so happy here we are treated like family and have been Beyond welcomed Since we’ve been coming
I was out of town for work and they welcomed me with open arm and great rolls even let me jump in there MMA class. Awesome experience, awesome people. Definitely gonna stop by when I’m back in Jacksonville
Best gym hands down! I signed up my kids a year and an half ago for jiujitsu and recently decided to try a new gym closer to home which is Art of War. The professor is phenomenal and the coaches in the classes are amazing. I signed up myself soon after switching and love it! Everyone in the fundamentals class is so encouraging and I feel more confident each day we come. I recommend them to anyone who’s interested!
First of I love both Sarah and prof. Art they are the most welcoming warm and understanding people I've met in a very long time. All of the coach's and their assistants are extremely kind and gentle with my little girls. With them being all under 6 that was a must for us and they've exceeded all expectations. In addition they have helped my 12 yr old son and my girls gain the confidence and clarity of themselves and others. As well as reiterate mannerism hygiene and character. I could go on and on but I'll just finish with.... if you looking for your kid or yourself to just play and waste money this isn't the place for you but.... if your looking to get your monies worth and be well rounded as a person and have the knowledge of self defense this is definitely your place!!!!!
Great class for my son. He is learning each week and it’s awesome to see him build off the discipline to keep coming back. He’s having fun too!
Our 5 and 6 year old have been going here for 4 months and we are loving it so far, great coaches and environment.
I have trained at 5 different gyms over the past few years and Art of War is by far the best. Very high level training in a clean and safe environment. Just try it!
Art of War has changed my life for the better. Since joining, I’ve lost 60 pounds and I’ve gained knowledge to protect myself, and I’ve found confidence to face the world! I love my new family, and I can’t recommend enough joining the family. Unleash your full potential at Art of War Jiujitsu!
Excellent instruction. Couldnt be more pleased!
I like this place so much but I’m just still really nervous considering that I just got a concussion but still I think this is a really great place and I really recommend it if your looking to go to jiu jitsu…
Solid gym, solid instructor (Art). I like to hit local gyms when I’m traveling. This is a great place to visit if you’re in Jacksonville. Leg lock class was insightful and no one there had a crazy ego. Great class, great experience.
Where do I even begin!!!!, Art of War Jiu Jitsu is by far the best gym I have found for my 16yr old son. I live in Saint Augustine and commute to this gym for a reason. They are super welcoming and you automatically become family. Doesn't matter your age group they will take you in and teach you whether you have experience or not. I moved from New Jersey and my son tried a couple Martial Art gyms before signing up here. Now I'm not here to bash any place else , but I promise you if you come here and take a class it will be your last stop. This place takes pride and puts there students before anything, example hygiene is huge here! They clean the mats with bleach after class They wear sandals off the mats, They don’t train when sick these are little things that they do to show they care. My son every time we leave thanks me for bringing him here. Art is the man and always pushes student to do there best. The level of instruction he gives students is like no other, I promise you won't regret it. If you're going to invest in yourself look no further Art of war Jiu Jitsu is the place !
This place is great. Very clean, organized, and fun for the whole family.
I would highly recommend this gym. I came to Jacksonville on vacation with my family. I wanted to visit a gym close to where we stayed. At AOW, I was warmly welcomed, the technique portion of class was good and the live rolls were awesome. Super good atmosphere! If I lived here I would definitely train here. Oss
Awesome place and staff that make you feel like family!
Dropped in tonight and had a warm welcome, great class, and great instructor.
Great experience, they take care of you while still giving amazing coaching and lessons for both jiu jitsu and MMA. I love the time i spend at Art of War staying In shape and learning new and fun techniques
I’m 46 and was super skeptical about going to a gym. You hear the stories. New guy gets wrecked all the time and made an example of. Not this place. Super welcoming from all Belts. Everyone eager To learn and teach as well. Art is super knowledgeable and has zero problem tailoring your experience and training. This place takes pride in its ownership of not only the gym itself but their people as well.
Great coaches and great people
My son really enjoyed learning Jiu Jitsu at this facility. Amazing staff and group of kids. Caters to all ability levels. Very encouraging and welcoming. Highly recommend this facility if you’re looking for a place to either learn or grow in your Jiu Jitsu abilities.
I dropped by Art of War while in town over the weekend visiting a buddy, and from the moment I walked in the door I was welcomed with smiles and open arms; everyone made me feel like I'd been coming there for years. The instruction was top notch, and after we rolled, the entire class of approximately 25 (update: 36) people stayed behind and coordinated for a group picture with me (which I could not believe and was incredibly humbled by). I've been to quite a few gyms, but I have never felt more welcomed and at home with a group of people I had just met an hour earlier than here. Whether your are a traveler like I was, or you live in the city and need a new jiu jitsu home, this is your spot and I cannot recommend them highly enough.
Absolutely 10/10 gym!! Dropped in while in town - Arthur was more than welcoming and overall a super gracious host. Made sure I felt comfortable, trained with me, spent time after class, etc….seriously the BEST out of town/vacation training experience I’ve had yet!! TYSM!! OSS
After a ton of research, choosing Art of War for my jiujitsu journey was a no-brainer and honestly, it’s been one of the best decisions I've made. Their 8-week beginner’s course has been so helpful. It’s like a warm-up before you dive into the deep end, and aligns really well with the way I learn. You don’t just feel thrown into the mix; you get the basics down first. Art, Keith, and Mike are super supportive and great at matching you with the right training partner. The vibe at Art of War is what you’d hope for from a great gym. It’s super friendly, welcoming, and down-to-earth, but everyone’s serious about their training. It’s this cool mix of having fun and working hard. You feel it the moment you walk in. And, they’re super clean - like, cleaning the mats after every class kind of clean and I love it. You can expect to hear the off-mat shoe policy day 1. Sure, there are plenty of gyms closer to my side of town, but I’m more than happy to make the drive because this gym and these people are worth it. 10/10 recommend Art of War to anybody looking for a great jiujitsu gym, whether you’re looking to be challenged by higher belts or a beginner white belt like me.
We are so happy to have found AOW for my son’s training! Every single person has been very welcoming and with great knowledge. We highly recommend choosing this amazing place!
Our experience at Art of War BJJ has been outstanding! My 3 kids have been there for 4 years now and 2 of them have graduated to the adult/teen class. The family-friendly atmosphere makes it awesome for all ages. Prof. Art and the other instructors are dedicated and knowledgeable. The community here is like one big supportive family, turning it into more than just a BJJ school. It's where you learn, grow, and make friends. It's become a second home for us. Come check it out for yourself!
My kids and I have been going to Art of War for almost 2 years and are thoroughly impressed with the quality of training and community. The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable and dedicated to teaching both the fundamentals and advanced techniques of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. They ensure a safe and respectful environment, making it ideal for beginners and experienced practitioners alike.
This place becomes a family! All coaches care about the kids and what's best for them. If there is a kiddo struggling they go above and beyond to help them(whether it's home, school, or jits). They have been welcoming since day one! So thankful and blessed we found them!
This place is great for beginners like me, and open 6 days a week and even on Sundays. The owners and staff are wonderful people, and very accommodating. The other students are helpful, and the vibe of the gym is great. I love going here.
Art of War jiujitsu is absolutely amazing. Everyone there makes you feel welcomed and it has quickly became home for me. All of the instructors are very good about communicating how to do different techniques as well as correcting you in a manner that helps you think about what you are doing to be even better. Everybody has amazing energy and I’ve learned so much in the little time I’ve been here. If you have great energy and are eager to learn and work your booty off, this is the school for you I promise. 10/10. 2 yrs later growing strong! I love the gym with all my heart and the community and knowledge you gain with your skill is priceless!!
I love this gym. Fantastic curriculum, instructors, and training partners! Have learned a ton and made some great friends. It’s also the cleanest Jiu Jitsu gym I have ever seen. Keep up the good work!
I’m new to BJJ it’s amazing class. Art teaches in an easy and understandable way to grasp all moves and is very patient with his students. I recommend this for everyone five stars
Fantastic place to go if you are looking to learn, get in shape, or find a community to be a part of. Instructors are knowledgeable and very friendly. I’ve been to a number of martial arts gyms over the years, and I have never been welcomed as a regular this quickly.
We have been training here as a family for over a year. We have been thrilled with our progress, the entire team, and enjoy everyone in the gym.
Art of War is great place to meet a diverse group of people. Training here has given me realistic perspective on real life applications of defense. As a new beginner they have done a great job from day one making me feel welcome. 10/10 recommend
When I moved to Jacksonville I visited multiple gyms, trying to find a competitive and welcoming environment. Art of War was exactly what I was looking for. Whether you are a beginner or have experience, this is the place to be. I have been here for about a year and happy I made the decision to join this gym. I'm not going anywhere!
The best jiu-jitsu dojo I've ever been to. You can tell it's family-owned by the friendly atmosphere. Everyone feels like part of a team, creating a true family vibe. My favorite aspect is the Olympic sportsmanship spirit – everyone plays fair and is dedicated to personal development, aiding fellow team members in reaching their goals. 10/10 would recommend
This gym is extremely welcoming and feels like a family. The mat room is extremely knowledgeable and skilled and everyone is able to build their skills together and build eachother up.
I had my first lesson here on Friday. And tbh I was super anxious. I’m short and over weight and am doing this to try to get in shape as well as to do something to build confidence. I wasn’t sure how things were gonna go. But the atmosphere was nothing but welcoming and positive from the moment I stepped through the door to the moment I left. I was with the beginners class and the instructor had no issues showing things an extra time or 2. He even let me work through hand positioning on a specific part on him so that I could better understand what I was doing. The longer I was on the mat the more I felt my confidence build. I really enjoyed myself, and within 10 minutes I knew I was going to be back.
Great modern Jiujitsu instruction from Professor Art. They cater to all levels and ages from the casual part-timer to full-time competitor, with both gi and no-gi classes. I always enjoy the friendly and welcoming atmosphere, the clean mats and equipment, and they’re open 7 days a week. Highly recommend!!
My kids have trained at Art of War for a couple years now and we love it. After moving from out of state it was hard to find a place that fit what we wanted and I am happy we chose them. They really care about the kids and the adults and teens who train there. The atmosphere is friendly and encouraging while also being challenging and competitive.
This is a fantastic place to learn jiu jitsu. Art is a great professor and he is really good at explaining techniques. You won’t be disappointed coming here.
Walked in with a nervous and timid mindset; A few classes later, felt fully comfortable and welcomed like a part of a family. Very excited to stay with this team for years and years to come. -Alejandro Salazar
Art of war Jiu Jitsu is an amazing place to train. I’ve been going consistently for over a year now and can’t say enough good things about the community and Art. The way that the classes are taught is the perfect balance between learning and applying.
This school is phenomenal. My daughter was super shy going in and they treated her like family immediately. Art, Keith and Scott truly care about the kids they teach.
I’ve been coming to the Art of Jiu Jitsu for a month now. From the 1st day I felt a family vibe. The instructors are awesome. I was nervous the 1st day and everyone made me feel comfortable. The atmosphere is amazing and everyone is friendly. I get excited to go every day. And I’m definitely getting my moneys worth. They also have seminars with experienced black black belt instructors who have traveled around the world with jiu jitsu to give pointers if you want to learn more. The best investment for my health physically and mentally. Love this place!!!
Kieth, Art, and Sarah are all amazing. Went in for my first free class and did not show up for another 2 weeks. When I returned, Art called on me BY NAME and asked where I had been. I can't remember the last time someone who had only spoken to me once didn't have to ask for me to repeat my name, let alone remember my face. I am beyond impressed with family environment at a gym of this size. Would recommend to everyone!
I can’t say enough about this facility. First, it’s one of the cleanest gyms I’ve been in and I was welcomed with open arms. From the moment you step in the door on day one, everyone is opening and welcoming and genuinely interested in your success. The beginners 8 week course helps you learn the basics so you know the fundamentals. This is very helpful for a newbie as not to feel like a fish out of water. The instructors Art, Keith and Nate are patient and knowledgeable. While I don’t have children, they do have a tiny’s (4-7 year olds) and juniors (8-12 years old) classes 5 days a week! The classes are right before the adult class Monday- Friday so the whole family can learn one of the most effective self defense methods there is. If you've been thinking about trying Jiu Jitsu, Art of War is your best choice in Jacksonville. It's normal to be anxious and excited to try something new, this is a great group of men and women that make you feel at home.

12/16/23 This is still my favorite thing to do I’m so glad I joined when I did. Come see what you’re missing Best part of my week is coming to AOWJJ. Don’t hesitate any longer join in the fun
My son loves it. Great instructors. All around great experience.
We highly recommend Art of War. We signed up both our boys. They have thrived here for several different reasons. The staff is amazing and everyone is so patient. 5Stars!
I’ve had my son in sports prior and they didn’t quite stick, but he absolutely loves jiu jitsu and attending Art of War. Coaches (and Professor) are all kind, patient, and knowledgeable! Incredible community. The fact that you can go everyday, 5 days a week, really helps your child retain everything they learn and make it worth it.
Great team of coaches who encourage and push the kids to do their best.
We signed our 6 year old son up 2 weeks ago and he LOVES his classes and teachers !!! We are a new family to the world of marital arts and AOW has been so welcoming to all of us. We did a week trial and knew after day 1 that this was the place for us. He has been 100% dedicated in class and we feel so grateful to have found this place. Art and his team are amazing. Easiest 5 star review !
I’ve been training at Art of War since 2021 and can definitely say this is my favorite place to be! I still remember the first day I stepped foot in the dojo and thought to myself, “this feels right.” I was treated with respect and had a ton of fun. There are many schools you can learn Brazilian Jui Jitsu from but few have the unique atmosphere that Professor Art has been able to create. The BJJ curriculum is structured in a way that enables students to build upon their knowledge from one class to the next instead of totally random techniques being taught on any given day. Additionally, Professor Art does a great job of teaching a wide range of techniques in both gi and no-gi. I recommend checking this place out whether you’re a total newbie or a seasoned competitor. Nothing but good vibes when you step on the mats!
Great training, competitive room, extremely talented professor.
I signed my son up just 2 months ago, he is 14 and he loves it. The new location is amazing and Art is the best. They welcomed my son an myself with open arms and they treat you like family. Best place if you want to learn jujitsu hands down.
My husband and I heard awesome things about this place and decided to do a trial class late February. I have zero jiu jitsu, wrestling, or martial arts experience while my husband has a wrestling background and has done jiu jitsu on and off for the past decade. Lori was super nice and helpful and I did the beginner class while my husband drilled/rolled with the rest. The beginner course is 8 weeks, going over the raw basics and you drill the skills you learn with fellow beginners. After the first class, the casual vibe with a good a group of people just getting after it, we decided to sign up for the year! Because of my work schedule, I did opt to do some personal training sessions with Keith to try to stay on track with the beginner course and he has been absolutely amazing. I’ve already learned so much and pricing is very reasonable for personal training sessions as well. Arthur, the Professor, is a genuine human, military vet and exceptional teacher from what I’ve seen so far. All the coaches are invested and passionate about what they do. There seem to be plenty of people who compete, but plenty that don’t as well. For anyone scared to start learning jiu jitsu, I feel that they do an excellent job easing you into things and when it’s time to grapple/roll, they are calculated in who they pair you with for your learning and everyone’s safety. We are thrilled with our decision to join and can’t wait to keep learning from such a capable team!!
Art of war is one of the best gyms I have ever been to. The gym culture is the best I have ever seen. I Highly recommend this gym for families, the kids clases are great and the adults night class is great for both men and women. There are a good group of ladies that come and train regularly. Overall awesome gym and highly recommend!
The coaches are very good with both kids and adult skill levels, and are very engaged. The have great pride in what they do, and for the art of jiu jitsu. Highly recommend!
Best choice I could have made for my son. My son has been attending this Bjj training program for a month and I have noticed an amazing difference in his confidence and he's excited to go everyday. The instructors are great and shows a lot of care in the kids learning while taking time to assist them with the various positions. They are often complimenting them as they do well which further promotes their engagement to learn and do well. Also, the environment has been very welcoming from the moment I walked into the door. Overall, I am happy Art of War was recommended to me and I look forward to continuing to watch my son blossom in this art with the help of these instructors.
Training at Art of War for a month now. I would highly recommend this if you want to go to the next level.
The best martial arts place in Jax. My husband and I tried different places for our son (6y) in the oakleaf, middelburg and Orange park, we were always disappointed untill we discovered the Art of War Ji- Jitsu. We were impressed from the moment We stepped in. They have a very structured kid's program, oustanding coaches. Kids learn discipline, defense while having a lot of fun. The best !
We are fairly new with AOW, but man we absolutely love this place. Our little dude has learned so much in such short period of time. Everyone their takes their time to make sure every child learns the technique. They are able to capture the attention of young minds in different ways so that the children are able to learn and retain the skills they are taught!
I really never do reviews for places but I feel like AOW deserves to be put on the map as one of the best gyms around…One of the most important things in my opinion about joining a new gym wether you’ve been training for a while, or if you are just starting out, is how you’re treated on your first day in the gym. I’ve been training for about 5 years now and I’ve trained in a handful of BJJ/MMA gyms. I’ve recently joined AOW after trying to find a solid gym in the Jacksonville area, and I’ve gotta say.. This gym is definitely unique and unlike any I’ve experienced , simply based on the structure on how the classes are ran and how everything you do in the gym is controlled and calculated for you by the instructor to best fit your training progression needs… from the moment you step foot in the door Arthur and his crew make sure you are taken care of and welcomed with the upmost care every step of the way to make sure you are prepared to have the best possible time on the mat learning and practicing the beautiful art of jiu jitsu no matter what your skill level. When you join this gym they make it a priority to get to know who each individual team member is, I truly believe they genuinely care about each member.. I’ve never felt like I was just another person coming to train who was unknown to the instructor. Every person in this gym is respectful and great to train with from the newbies to the savages. The vibe in this gym is one of the absolute best I’ve experienced in my few years of training and I am so proud to be apart of this academy. I highly recommend this gym for anyone looking to train BJJ in Jacksonville area.. 5 full stars 🤙🏽🤙🏽 Oss!
Stoped in while visiting Jacksonville. I've trained a lot of places, as I usually drop in somewhere whether on vacation or just passing through. Arthur and his students were very warm and welcoming. Great mat space with plenty of training partners of all levels. Great Jiu-Jitsu practitioners with even greater attitudes. Arthur's instructions were clear and easy to understand. Taught me a few things I will absolutely add to my game. If I lived in Jacksonville, this is where I would train. Hope to stop in again next time I'm in town. Thanks Arthur and family for great training 👊🏻💪🏻🤙🏻
Art of War (“AOW”) has a genuine family feeling, with an emphasis on team spirit and growth without judgment. Their 8 week beginner program was a great intro for me as a new student, teaching me basic grappling movements, defenses, safety, and good BJJ manners. I know I have made a fool of myself many times, and teammates/coaches have remained universally helpful, welcoming, and supportive. I also appreciate that AOW has talented female coaches as well as male coaches. As a woman, seeing someone who I can identify with doing hard things makes those hard things feel more attainable. I’m a novice at best, but in my few months training at AOW I have gained many skills, a new appreciation for my body, and a greater sense of safety as a woman in the world. 10/10.
We absolutely love this place. The coaches and atmosphere are amazing. My 7 year old loves to come almost every day of the week and laughs and learns the entire time.
I've had the pleasure of visiting Art and his team at Art Of War JJ several times while in Florida. This is my go-to for training. The culture is very inviting and the competition is high level! I highly recommend visiting.
Both my kids love it here! I have seen their confidence grow immensely and they loving coming back each time! They learn something new every time and always get one on one help if they need it. Great place and highly recommend!
Top tier jiujitsu. The children’s program has a well monitored student to coach ratio and the instruction is well planned out. The students WANT to put in the work to grow their skills, have fun, and respect the coaches and professors. Coach Lori, Coach Thomas, Coach Keith, Coach Sadie and Professor Art take the time to guide and know each practitioner from the future little rollers all the way through the adults and their extended family cheer squad. When looking for an academy as a mother and practitioner I look for pristine cleanliness, honor and respect based instruction, family oriented atmosphere and it must have a healthy competitive spirit. This place has it all. I bring my 4 children from little rollers to teen to train here. It feels like walking into a family with all the aunts, uncles and cousins reaching out to bring you under their wings. It’s a bonus that it keeps us in shape. Zero drama and zero tolerance for it. Growth focused people like these don’t allow the low vibes for negativity. They utilize that energy on the mat.
I’ve been training here for a few months now, and the experience has been great! The gym is clean, the coaching staff is great, and everyone I’ve met has been incredibly welcoming for a beginner like me.
They won't tell you what they cost without them giving you the hard-sell.
The people here are really nice, but unfortunately the owner is money hungry and actually requires you to purchase their gym’s rashguards and Gi/ Gi patch to PRACTICE (I think except for like 2 days a week/ open mats). I can somewhat understand requiring the gym’s rashguard/ Gi for tournaments or competitions, but this is clearly just a money grab tactic. The coaching here seems pretty solid, good techniques are shown, but the owner has gone to a somewhat corporate approach and is profit> passion for the art.
