Now a purple belt at Ares and nothing but great things to say about my home away from home. Surrounded by lots of talent on a daily basis with classes taught by world class black belt instructors. A hidden gem in an area that might not be much of a landmark location. Classes 7 days a week, I highly recommend dropping by!

My family (me and two kids!) have been coming to Ares BJJ for a year now, and I’m happy to leave this five-star review. The staff is friendly, the schedule is accommodating, the studio is always clean, and most importantly the training is amazing. Professor Samir and his staff run a solid program for world class Jiu Jitsu training, and I couldn’t recommend it enough. There is a track for beginners, intermediate, and advanced training, and plenty of opportunity to train with all levels. I love it. Whether you’re casually interested, seeking personal development, or you desire to compete in tournaments, Ares BJJ will have something for you.

We recently found the world of Jiu Jitsu & it has been a true blessing. My son had no interest in anything but hiding in his room and playing Xbox. I tried everything to get him interested in physical activity and making friends, but nothing worked. After a bad report card and a declining attitude, it was time for a change. I found this gym based on location but what we really discovered was a whole new group of awesome people. I can't thank these incredible teachers, Jeremy and Jamie, enough for their passion and care for the students, it is so special to watch. From day one, it was evident that they are not just teaching a sport; they are fostering a community. The dedication they have for Jiu Jitsu is infectious, and it creates an environment where the students feel inspired and motivated to give their best. On day one when my son had no idea what he was doing, they both made him feel welcome and comfortable without looking like the "new" kid who clearly didn't know the basics. The other kids were also quick to take my son as a partner and show him the ropes! What sets this gym apart is the way the teachers treat the kids. It's not just a class; it's a family. The instructors go above and beyond to create a sense of belonging and camaraderie among the students. The genuine care they show is heartwarming. It's clear that they view each child as more than just a student—they treat them as if they were their own and they fight for each kid to reach their own best potential. Watching my son thrive in this class has made me so proud. He is discovering himself through Jiu Jitsu and the group of people he is learning to be responsible toward and respectful too. Grades have improved, he's lost some much needed Covid pounds and shaved 3 minutes off the mile at school since he started in August. Don't look anywhere else, if you read this whole review, you are in the right place already!

Great gym for beginners and advanced BJJ students. I came in as a purple belt and right away was welcomed by everyone. I came to Ares for the world class instructors/coaches..but I stay for the people and the atmosphere. Highly recommended Academy if you want to start your BJJ journey or if you want to level up and become a competitor.

Love this place! Quality Jiujitsu and a very friendly vibe. The academy is well maintained, clean and a safe place to train for all levels of students from professional athletes, kids or a mom or dad who just wants to do something for fun and to be more active. Whatever your goals are, weight loss, learn self defense, have more of a social life, gain confidence… Jiujitsu at Ares BJJ Academy will help you reach them.

Awesome academy, I’ve been to a lot of academies that focused on just one aspect of bjj. Samir and the other black belts focus on the highest levels of bjj while also focusing on a family and fun atmosphere.

The greatest thing to happen to my daughter. During the pandemic it saved her and has turned her into a competitor. She used to pick daisies on the soccer field and now has no problem going in hard for the ball. She has more confidence in all aspects of life. I highly recommend this place and Jamie and Jeremy Wright as instructors.

Ares Modesto is a great academy and Samir’s teaching is top tier and he has the accolades to back it up. His black belts are some of the best there are and their instruction is also top tier. Classes are held multiple times a day and days of the week. You can’t go wrong choosing Ares Modesto.

Our son has been training here for a little over a year. All the teachers have been awesome, Elisabeth, Jamie and Jeremy. We have really seen the growth in our son since training there. The teachers are kind but with good boundaries, teaching them discipline. The price is fair too. The owner, Samir is a champion BJJ Professional and seems to take an active role in running his gym.

My daughter has been attending Ares BJJ Modesto since March of this year. From the very first day we stepped into the gym to get some info on how to enroll her in classes our experience has been nothing but great. The owner Samir was very attentive and explained the process to us and encouraged my daughter to start that very next day. Her coaches Jamie and Jeremy, are the most professional and caring trainers and I can’t thank them enough for everything they have done for my daughter. Their love for the sport is what makes them such great trainers. Thanks to them, my daughter now loves the sport and looks forward to Jiu jitsu all the time. Thank you Jaymie and Jeremy for all that you do to make the children’s class so great!

I started going to Ares a few months ago and I couldn’t be happier. Samir is literally a world-class instructor (and competitor), right here in Modesto. He personally teaches most of the classes, which is awesome and not something you find at many other gyms. Other nice things: -The facility is clean and spacious. -There are a lot of sessions each day, which makes it easy to go to class when it works for you. -Everybody is extremely welcoming and helpful. You can’t pick a better place to either start or continue your jiu jitsu journey.

Before I moved to this area, my friends in Texas who know jiu jitsu recommended Ares based on Samir Chantre’s world-class reputation as a multiple-time World Champion. Having been here for over two years, I’ve found that Samir is a highly-technical instructor, with attention down to the smallest details that make the biggest difference in the effectiveness of the techniques. He also a fun and genuinely caring person, one who fosters a supportive, cohesive, and family-type atmosphere among his students. With jiu jitsu, you get out of it what you put into it. If you want to make the investment in yourself to work hard while having fun, all the while being surrounded by good people, this is the academy for you. I hate driving, have a busy work schedule, and there are academies that are closer, but for all this it is worth it to me to make the drive several times a week!

Best place in the area to train, hands down. Samir is a world class Jiu-Jitsu competitor as well as a coach. Very good instruction as well as the kids instructor Jeremy. Fun and friendly atmosphere. Everyone is super cool and nice. I was in the area for a few months & Samir was super cool about letting me train here. To include that I am part of a different team. No issues at all. I would sign up here if I lived in the area. If you want to learn from one of the best in the world then you should def come here. Thank you everyone at Ares. Oss!

The absolute best place to train in the area. World-class instructors that build you up to be successful, and a very inviting atmosphere that makes you want to keep coming back. I researched a lot of BJJ schools before signing up at Ares, and I am certain that I made the correct choice. I started out doing a 6-week challenge during which I lost 17 lbs. and had fun doing it. I am very proud to now call this academy home.

Training with Samir at Ares Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has been an amazing experience the short time I have been there with my husband and son. Our son has been there for over 3 years and I had no interest in practicing. However, after my son convinced me to join the 6-week challenge I was hooked. I love the fact that I am learning self defense and I feel confident in myself. Samir is an amazing instructor--he is down to earth, humble, funny, and encourages you on and off the mat. I highly recommend you try the 6-week challenge.

Can’t say enough good things about Ares academy. I enrolled in their 6 week challenge and by week 4 I decided to be a full time member. All the instructors are top notch, led by decorated multiple time world champion professor Samir. Great atmosphere, friendly and humble fellow students and instructors. No better team to be apart of... ARES is a family!

First visit to this academy while visiting family and friends in Modesto. Booked a private lesson ahead of time with Jeremy, who is also the kids program instructor. The Facility:Very clean gym with ample mat space, seating and viewing areas, 2 restrooms, and multiple changing rooms. Again, all very clean and tidy. The instruction / lesson: Very focused to my needs and wants, with high consideration that I am coming off of an extended time off from training. Strong emphasis on technique with a very solid review of the content. Also, was able to observe the kids class after my session. Very good instruction with a big emphasis on the safety of your training partner. The interaction between teacher and students was fun and light, with obvious mutual respect.

If you want to learn, do it here. These guys pay their bills with jiujitsu competitions. They aren't something by day and black belts by night. This is all they do and it shows. Amazing teachers with amazing ways to break down everything so that everyone can understand. Everyone here is amazing and really nice. The monthly price to learn from some of the BEST belt belts in the game is really good. I can't say enough good things about this place. Come in and try it for free and see for yourself.

The kids coach knows how to teach jujitsu, unfortunately he is rude and disrespectful to the kids and parents. He's rude in a wired awkward neurotic sort of way. If he can ever get a grip on this he will be a world class coach. His wife also coaches and she is a gem!

They’re not welcoming at all for visitors. I came into town on leave from the Army and they charged a $30 for a drop in fee for an open mat. I was planning on attending for a week but I’m not about to spend $210. They’re not worth the time or money.

this place is rude they use violence when asked about there free program for 45 days they say you have to pay 500 hundred bucks and if not satisfied they will refund your money so it's not a free program false advertising and when asking questions they use violent content to make you leave waste of time and energy defiantly not what bjj is about

I was never taught how to properly tie my belt. The instructor stopped to ask me a few times about money owed but never took the time to introduce me to the process or to see if I understood what classes were for me. The prices are steep for what i received. The classes are short and to top it off I got sent to sit on the sidelines for half the class on various occasions. I could watch youtube videos for free at home if I wanted to learn that way.

This academy is small and it is more a sport club than an academy. The kids instructor is rude and disrespectful with the kids. He wants kids that already know jiu jitsu. So if you are looking for a nice academy to start your kid at this sport this academy is not the place. They have just one class for all kids. That probably it makes difficult for a trainer to manage the kids, without give them the right to disrespect the kids in the way they do.
