My son gets excited and looks forward to his karate class. The staff are skilled and friendly making every class exceptional. The karate class is a great way for kids to burn that extra energy and increase their physical, directional, and social skills. We love this facility and highly recommend it to anyone thinking about getting their kid started!
My son has been attending American Academy of Self Defense for over a year and half. Everyone there is as friendly as can be, and they take the time to work with all of the kids. There are tv's in the waiting area so you can watch your child as they learn. Highly recommended!
My son is closing in on his first 3 weeks of classes, he can’t get enough! He’s learned so much and comes home practicing his combinations. One price for unlimited classes can’t be beat. Mr. Mike and all the senseis have made this such an incredible experience so far and we can’t wait to get to yellow belt!

My 4 and 6 year old tend to be nervous to try new things, kicking and screaming going in. All it took was 5 minutes and they were hooked! What an awesome experience. Caring professionals, flexible schedule, and a place where your child can really grow! So happy to be a part of this school!!
My 7 year old son just started coming here over the summer and loves it. Great class size and the instructors take the time to work with each child individually. We love that he can take as many classes as he would like each week and no contract. Mike the owner is wonderful and knows each student by name. My daughter has been attending for about a year now. She loves it everytime. We love the flexibility of being able to come to classes as often as we want and when we want. No hard schedule, many options throughout the week. Great schedule, great instructors, overall great experience and value.
My son just began here. So far seems like what we are looking for him as he is no stranger to the martai arts. Everyone has been kind and Mike is nice and explained everything thoroughly. The instructors really take the time to correct stance and make sure the kids are executing the moves correctly.

I won a free month at two different fundraisers so both of my kids could try this out together! Both my kids LOVE going here and insisted on continuing after the month! Joined a little over a month ago. The Sensei's are very passionate and knowledgeable about martial arts, and you get to do a lot of different types of self-defense and structural practices. They also ask you what you'd like to work on upon occasion, which is quite helpful if you have specific goals in mind.
Excellent and safe dojo aka martial arts school where you will learn at a comfortable pace. Excellent teachers and you will be looking forward to the next class to learn. Very clean, safe and excellent school. The best on Long Island!
Just started this school for my son, Mike is great! He gets you set up so you get the most out of your experience. School is a good facility with monitors in the lobby. Instructors are kind and skilled, something I appreciate without the intensity on the toddlers. Parents aren’t supposed to watch through windows which I find great because it gives the opportunity for the kids to grow themselves! Thanks Mike for inviting us in!
The best place for kids to learn the art of fighting and defend themselves! Great experienced teachers! Also, great opportunity for parents to come and relax on the yoga mat while their kids are busy training. All levels are welcome!

My son is shy and we speak another language at home, since he'll learn English anyway. So I thought it'll be tough for him to get started. But thankfully, Mike encouraged me to bring him in (thanks!). And I can't say enough good things about the instructor AJ. My son didn't leave my side to enter the class himself, but AJ, practicing with the other kids made it seem so much fun and tried to encourage him in between, till he became comfortable, and joined them himself! And now he can't wait to go back to class! And he's improving after every lesson!

My 8 year old daughter just started going here about 3 weeks ago and I gotta say I have nothing but good things to say about American Academy of Self Defense ! . Mike , the owner , is very knowledgeable and has many other very good instructors within the place who are all great with kids . They made our daughter feel welcome from the very start. They have an effective way of teaching self defense , self respect and most importantly the slogan they teach is that karate kids do better in school which I loved lol . Great place to take your kids to learn a craft they’ll never forget 💯
For centuries my family have been involved in various martial arts across the globe. As fate would have it when it was my daughters turn, at age 5 we found ourselves on a foreign island much different and longer then the south Asian jungle of my youth. Would I be able to find the elements my daughter needed to complement the element of surprise I had taught her already. When the mind quiets the voice you need to hear sounds and when I crossed paths with Michael I knew my ancestors had brought me hear. She's now physically and mentally stronger with a can do attitude because martial arts is more then lessons in defense but also life. This is the way.
My child goes here and it is a wonderful place! Everyone is so nice and there are things that he gets after class, which is nice. I get to watch his classes from start to finish and i can see everything he is learning. This is a great place and I would recommend it to anyone who asks

My daughter has been going for classes for a month now. I have to say she looks forward to going to classes 3 days a week. The school I feel is teaching her confidence, and discipline. I like watching the class to see her improvements. The owner Is very personable, how he interacts with the students is stellar. I will be signing her up for additional instructions.
