This gym is Phenomenal! The mats are huge and allow plenty of space to learn and work and they have amenities like showers and an area to workout aswell. The staff are amazing and helpful, but above all they want you to learn and will guide you to that point. They treat all people with respect whether you are new or a seasoned practitioner, the atmosphere is very welcoming overall!
Posted 1 year agoPhenomenal! I’m new to the area and visiting different academies to find a home. Alvarez Jiu Jitsu is truly top-notch! Right away when you walk in, you realize this is a HUGE facility! Massive mat space for training, clean locker rooms, and large and comfortable waiting areas for the parents. One waiting area has live video so parents can watch their children train. After that, there’s another massive space for weight training/cardio. Then we come to the owner. It was immediately clear that Professor Danny Alvarez truly cares about his students and their well-being. Not only is he teaching great jiu jitsu, but talks to everyone about nutrition and life choices. Especially the youngsters. The product he is offering is self-accountability through martial arts, and it was impressive and refreshing to see. If you are looking for great jiu jitsu and coaching from a proven practitioner and competitor, Alvarez Jiu Jitsu is the place! Thanks, Professor!

We've just signed our daughter up at Alvarez Jiu Jitsu, and from the very 1st day I knew we chose the right sport and the right place. Everyone there is very friendly and helped make my daughter feel super comfortable.
I have grown up coming here for the past 16 years, and then I joined the military and every time I am back in town they let me drop in and roll again. i am always welcomed back with open arms! Its a great place to be if you want to train and take getting in shape seriously
I really enjoyed training here. The facilities are very nice, and clean. The class was well structured with high quality instruction. I particularly liked that they have a large group of strong young women training there. I was visiting from another gym in another city, and everyone was very welcoming.
Environment: 10/10 would do again Coaching: 10/10 they fostered a great learning experience stressing the importance of technique while letting you explore your own style Cohesion: 10/10 I visited the academy while in town to assert dominance over my brother in law. I had a great time training with other members who made me feel right at home. To my chagrin they even encouraged my failed attempt at domination. Thank you all for having me.
I can say nothing but great things about my time at Alvarez - great instruction from Coach KJ, great rounds from the team that were high level and competitive but also respectful. The mats are huge with plenty of room to work. I was amazed by the attendance at the 6am class, bigger than most schools. This place has a ton of offer so if you are looking for a home to train BJJ in Mansfield/South Arlington this place. One thing in particular is, just from being a guest but looking around the school it looks like the leadership team puts tremendous emphasis on community building; there were words of encouragement, birthday shout outs, and more all throughout the gym. Definitely gives very welcoming vibes. Next time I'm in Mansfield I will be coming back. Photo is after 6-7 (lost count) very tough rounds.
Great training, very good instruction
Coach Alvarez let me train while I was in town, which was awesome of him. The atmosphere there is great, and the community is full of people happy to roll with a newbie. Tons of cool people and a great experience all around. Definitely check it out!
Coach Alvarez was nice enough to let me train there since I was visiting town. A lot of great talent, very big gym and super clean. Highly recommend anyone to stop by and check it out. Definitely would want to come back when I visit Texas again.
I stopped in from out of town and they were nothing but nice and helpful. The instructor that day had amazing insight and helped a lot. The facility smelt good, looked clean and had a nice locker room and amazing gym. I will definitely try to make time when I’m back in town to participate in a class again.

My wife and I took a class here to try it out and it was awesome. We are absolute beginners and the students and instructors were very welcoming and helpful. Will be back for sure. Instructor was very professional and tailored our experience to our skill level while allowing to experience as much of the class we desired. If you are unsure about BJJ this is a great way and great place for your first class.

Great vibes and training is amazing
Danny Alvarez took time to personally instruct me and the other newbie. The attention to detail in explaining the technique was easily followed by the two of us. I recommend anyone on the fence to try it out, you won’t regret it.
While I was in town from Missouri visiting family that lives in the area, the entire Alvarez Jiu Jitsu crew was very welcoming to me and allowed me to train with them at their 11am gi session. Great instruction, tough rounds, nice people. Would recommend this place and I definitely will be back.
Absolutely love the atmosphere here. The coaching staff pushes you to train hard and you can tell everyone is passionate about the martial art. Would recommend this gym to anybody looking to get into BJJ or looking for a challenge on the mats.
Alvarez Jiu Jitsu hosted a Girls in Gis event and the accommodations were incredible! There was a wonderful changing area for women, which if you have trained at other academies like I have, is not usually readily available. There was a great area for parents and friends who were not participating in the event to relax. The mat was huge, with plenty of space for everyone to train. The academy was clean and the owner, Danny Alvarez, was inviting. The female instructors, Marisol Fuentes and Casey Garcia were very technical, but clear in their instruction for all belt levels. I would definitely recommend this academy, especially if you are looking for a clean, female friendly place to train!

Nice gym! Facilities are clean; locker room, showers, weight room and 8 competition size mats in the main gym with A/C. Coaching staff are solid, fully explains techniques and allows plenty of rep time and pointers before going onto the next thing. Highly recommend if you want to take the sport seriously, seems quite a few of the practitioners here compete regularly so, the experience pool is deep!
New to the bjj training but seeing significant improvements in stress reduction, confidence, and conditioning. After a full session, I feel as if the body just released every toxin and I feel clean and light. My days are better and less stressful with a work day
I recently came back to Alvarez after graduating from Texas A&M University and I am so glad to have returned. Great coach, great gym, great training partners....makes jiu-jitsu feel like a family event! Without going into a story as long as the Harry Potter series, this gym helped me through one of the toughest times of my life and now I strive to repay it forward.
Great place to train! Disciplined and friendly people. Rolls are ego-free, active, and safe. The head coach teaches solid and effective technique. Jiu jitsu competition is a focus here; belt promotion is contingent on comp participation of some kind. Learning here has greatly improved my jiu jitsu, and I wish I could have stayed longer.
My daughter has been coming to Alvarez bjj since January 2024 and I can honestly say this place is more than just a place to train. Alvarez bjj has taken the time to not only train my daughter but get to know her and encourage her personal progress. My daughter is learning invaluable techniques from Coach Kj who has earned her respect and she looks forward to training with every week. I was in Arlington for a couple of days for work and dropped in for a Thursday night no gi class. The facility is large and clean and the people were welcoming. The class was 1.5 hr, allowing for warmups, technique and drilling, and five rounds of sparring. I had a great time and I appreciate the opportunity to train at Alvarez while in town.
I have found that instructions in martial arts gives my son confidence and respect to others. It is a family run business with extremely knowledgable instructors. I recommend Alvarez Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Alvarez Jiu jitsu is a great gym to begin training or to visit, I recently visited for a work out and a long time friend invited me. We had a fantastic practice, great drilling, great rolls, with great people and a great professor. The gym is very impressive with great space for training and an additional gym with free weights and bikes and bags. There’s a great waiting room for parents and spectators to watch practice. If you are very serious about training jiu jitsu and competing this is the place i would go. Thank you very much to Professor Alvarez and his staff they have a very special place, if only i lived closer i would sign up immediately! Thank you!

Most definitely a good sweat and a GREAT workout:) I was so hooked on being in shape before I came but today showed me I’ll NEVER be in shape for jiu jitsu till I start it. Despite being told by doctors that I had only 6 to 8 months to regain mobility after having a stroke, which left me with no movement on my left side, through sheer determination and hard work, I was able to walk and move around again in no time. Local business owners, you will want to read this one: I had contacted one of Alvarez's assistant coaches, Coach Justin, initially to train employees at my establishment in self-defense. I figured it would be a wonderful teambuilding exercise, and it is much more practical than, for example, a bowling night. I wasn't too sure what to expect, as none of my employees had previous self-defense experience, nor were they familiar with BJJ. Needless to say, our session went wonderfully, and now my employees and I are hooked. It was extremely beginner friendly, and the flow of the lessons were extremely smooth. We have been training on a weekly basis since, and the facility itself is flawless. The mat space is beyond anything I had ever seen, and the skill/passion that Coach Justin has as an instructor was unmatched. I don't normally write reviews, especially under my business's name, but this facility warrants all of the applause I can give. I have since brought additional employees and even customers to train, and everyone has had an absolute blast. After my first gym split up, I had bounced around from gym to gym for a little over a year, trying to find a home for my jiu jitsu. Honestly, spending months at a time at gyms to find out they were not the place for me was exhausting. Feel like I have seen every gym flaw you could see/find: dirty gym, coaches that lack leadership skills, communication skills or just don’t care about their students progress. So I kept it movin… After leaving my fifth gym, I was talking to one of my old teammates and they brought up that majority of the black belts we know came from Alvarez, suggesting that is where I needed to go. So I decided to go to Alvarez to see what’s up. As I walked in everyone was welcoming and respectful. You get a 30 day free trial if your new to jiu jitsu which is a huge advantage for people new to jiu jitsu, with experience you get less trial time. I signed up and haven’t looked back. Glad I did too, Coach Alvarez is the REAL DEAL, a real leader of Men and Women, and he really cares about his students progress on and off the mats. I’m not just saying that, you can find his YouTube Channel and see and listen to him dropping Gold Jewels on how you can better yourself not just in jiu jitsu but in life and situations. Coach Alvarez will push you to reach your goals. When we are training, we are grinding, the Coaches won’t let u Slack. I’m glad I decided to come train at Alvarez Bjj. I believe I have found my home for jiu jitsu(CLEAN GYM). And because of Alvarez BJJ I have regained my Love for Jiu Jitsu. Been to a couple of other bjj gyms, nothing like this one. Coach Alvarez really creates an environment that is humble, fun, and competitive. Also actually takes time to really help each student. He also actually does jiu jitsu damn near daily, which is rare.

Great place to train as a family. I absolutely love the team at Alvarez BJJ. There’s no ego, everyone is willing to help teach each other, and encouraged to participate. The women there have a great group chat that keeps everyone looped in and encouraged to train. My daughter and her friends love being able to train together. I’m so glad that I met with Moses today. He is the best ladies and gentlemen my sister Latonia recommended me best recommendation ever. The place was so nice beautiful very maintain and Moses knows what he is doing when it comes to Eyebrows it was a most enjoyable experience, I would recommend him to anyone that’s interested in Eyebrows, we had a wonderful conversation. The two hours that it takes went by really fast because it was just so pleasant.

While visiting nearby for Thanksgiving. My daughter and I were looking to get some Nogi work while away. We paid Alverez BJJ a visit. As a newer academy owner myself I was throughly impressed with the entire academy. Impressed with the systems they have in place for welcoming and serving their clientele. They had our names written on a white board, being that we had emailed them beforehand asking to visit. Professor Alvarez father greeted us , was professional and made us feel very welcome. The place is huge, clean, organized, impressive. We were toured through the impressive facility, that included a family lounge, equipped with monitors for parents to watch their kids, a huge fitness gym, and separate, equally large mat space for BJJ . Huge bathrooms , locker rooms, multiple showers. Everything is clean. They even have mouthwash for you. Class was great, talented team!! Go to place when I visit family. 5💥💥💥💥💥

My son started BJJ to learn self defense. We choose the Alvarez team because the coach's seemed very knowledgeable and are really good with their students. The studio is clean, and the Alvarez community is very welcoming. They have classes for different levels so kids can build up their confidence with no pressure. It is a great environment to be around and I would highly recommend them. It helps that they give a free trial so you can see if it fits your lifestyle.
Dropped into class Thursday 10/26/23. First off, the facility is amazing. Mat room is probably the biggest I have seen in the DFW. They have a separate large area to workout with all the equipment you need to supplement your BJJ journey. Coach Alvarez is an amazing coach. Very detailed and explains technique in a way everyone can understand and implement. Drilling is more than sufficient and you will definitely break a sweat before the rolls even start. I rolled about 5 rounds with an amazing brown belt and black belt that coached and helped me through all 5 rounds. On another note, 36 people were there. That’s a big class to me. To them, from what I hear, that’s a small class. The number of BJJ practitioners going there definitely can attest to the quality training and community that Alvarez BJJ represents. We have just recently started Alvarez’s Brazilian, Jiu, Jitsu but so far everyone has been so kind and welcoming! The Staff is amazing. Our son seems to really enjoy it so far! He’s very interested and tells everyone about his Jiu Jitsu class! and I’m so happy we chose to put him in this first. We hope to continue having a wonderful experience here making great memories. I definitely recommend them to anyone thinking about trying it.
Two of my kids (ages 4 and 6) recently participated in the ABJJ free trial which included complimentary shirts and the opportunity for each of them to attend two classes per week for a month, among other things. I was pleasantly surprised that ABJJ offered classes at multiple times throughout the week for their age group, and we were able to find something that fit our busy schedule. In addition, I was impressed by the number of training partners each class, enabling them to work closely and provide instruction to all the students. My kids had no prior BJJ experience, and the free trial provided our family a no-pressure, no-cost opportunity for them to see if BJJ was something they wanted to continue.

So this review is for people who have also never tried bjj like myself and have no idea what to expect. I'm gonna document the first 7 days lol. Day 1 - Pretty nervous and felt kind of awkward tbh. The cardio involved is really intense and the movements feel unnatural. Day 2 - My legs are fried and my whole body hurts but for some reason I came back anyway lmao. Day 3 - The nervousness has kind of turned to curiosity. The cardio is still kicking my *ss though. I told the coach I eat ramen noodles and tostinos, big mistake lol. Day 4 - Just when I thought I might be getting the hang of this thing I rolled with a blue belt who put me in what seemed like 50 million different submissions. I'm gasping for air and he's brushing the dirt off of his gi. I have so much to learn. Day 5 - I'm not waking up feeling like I've been smacked with a bag of bricks anymore so that's a plus I guess. Coach still on my *ss about ramen noodles. Day 6 - Egg sandwiches today, I'm making an effort to clean up my diet. The cardio has been getting a little easier but I'm still sucking wind through a straw. Day 7 - Diet still good for now and I feel amazing. I need this in my life. 10/10 experience. Try it for yourself.

Just signed up at this gym and I made my decision mostly because of the flexibility they have with their students and just an all around great welcoming atmosphere. My first day sparring sorry I can’t remember his name but he took it upon himself to actually show me a couple things during the session such as correct way to execute a certain submission and how to escape it as well. They have students who have been training at the same facility for years which says a lot in itself. Happy to be apart of this family and look forward to grow mentally and physically with a great group of like minded individuals.

Two years later i joined without a thought because of how flexible their schedule is. i am a father of 5, wondering how can i fit my schedule?? I watched a student of Alvarez Brazilian Jiu Jitsu compete at World League in Frisco today without a coach. What a bad look for a gym. Here you have a young athlete, paying his dues and training hard, even competing, yet the gym can't pull together a coach for 5 minutes. I felt so bad for the guy. When I saw "Alvarez" on his back, I was like "ah, of course". There are so many great supportive gyms to choose from.
EDIT: I was told he is attacking this review by asking his current students for reviews to cover it up. As a Christian, I can forgive but it seems he won’t forget this review since it is exposing. Check on “Real R” one more time… Fake is the best word to describe this business. They get you to come in and “try” a 30 day trial and lure you in on the 3rd day. I tried and my son tried, the atmosphere is a competition gym not a welcoming family gym. My son wasn’t learning much technique and just getting yelled at by the coaches. He would leave the mats and not want to go back bc it was boring to him. It is way way overpriced, you are paying more than $200/mth and for a family it gets expensive! It can add up to a car payment! For the amount you pay, you would think they would be more compassionate to a family really wanting to be there and need their service. The main coach is always bragging about how he does this/that better than younger people his age- arrogance and putting new ones below him He constantly puts his own daughter down in front of the whole class, talks bad about his family to the team and even his own students when they are not around! He has some loyal students but only because of the lies he puts up to them. It is a toxic environment at its best, all of these reviews are bought/bribed for students/families to write them for discounts/gifts! Please do not give in to the tactics here! It’s all fake He in fact is using things for his athletic performance to get an advantage against his opponents Again, to sum up = Fake!
Called this location for almost a week to no response. They have no information on pricing on their website. When I email them, instead of answering my one question they provide me their hours which I already saw on their website and insist I try a free class first and they will tell me the prices in person. They have made this about sales (reminded me of a car dealership tactic), when I am trying to get infromation on if this will work for me long term budget wise. Unprofessional. I will be looking at other places in the area. edit: added email proof edit 2: to repsond to the owner, through my research actually every jiu jitsu location in arlington offers free introdutory classes including TX Black Belt Academy and DFW MMA - Arlington Branch. You have lost my business do to a "process" everyone else does. Good luck. edit 3 : Look at the owner's response to my email after my review in the second photo. I guess they were upset. hilarious
