Professor Jay is an amazing BJJ teacher. I came to Belleville for work, and I’m so happy to have trained here for the brief time I have. As i’ve done some BJJ classes before, I knew it was important for me to find a gym that had women members and actively welcomed them. Alcateia definitely is that place! I normally forget techniques as soon as I learn them, but Professor Jay really breaks down techniques clearly. The format of drilling and sparring using those techniques on the same day really helps in cementing them in my mind. In addition to watching the lessons of the week in the virtual academy which also really helps !

Professor Jason Chin-Leung graciously let me drop in for a class when I was working in Belleville this month, and I got way more than I might have hoped for. Though there were 10 or 12 students, he provided detailed individual coaching for every technique he showed. He fixed some sloppy habits for me. I could not have got more out of a private class. I very much enjoyed the drilling and rolls at the end with his students. Beautiful. Thanks.

Second to no one in the surrounding area. I first met Professor Jason Chin-Leung in 2001 in Toronto, and I have been more than fortunate to know him and see the quality, care, and depth he brings to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I have hosted him before, and I look forward to hosting him again in the near future. Professor Jason has taken the time to explain, share, and add so much value to the growth of my students and many others. His knowledge, attention to detail, and willingness to help others develop are clear every time he teaches. His knowledge is only second to his Professor, Omar Salvosa, and our Grandmestre Marcus Soares. Alcateia BJJ is a strong example of proper lineage, technical instruction, and respectful martial arts training. Highly recommended.

I'm so glad I took the plunge and joined Alcateia Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with Professor Jay! As a complete newbie to martial arts, I was initially hesitant to join, but I'm thrilled I did. The instructors are absolutely amazing, and they made me feel comfortable and supported from the very beginning. The moves can be challenging, but the instructors take the time to break down each technique into manageable steps, making it easy to understand and execute. I was impressed by the attention to detail and patience they showed in teaching us the fundamentals. What I love most about this class is that it's not just about learning new moves - it's about building strength, self-confidence, and discipline. From the warm-up to the end of class, I felt like I was pushing myself to new limits and achieving small victories along the way. I've noticed significant improvements in my physical fitness and mental toughness since joining, and I owe it all to Professor Jay and the team at Alcateia Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I had the pleasure of training at Alcateia for 6 weeks this summer as part of my summer holidays. Professor Jason was very welcoming and flexible with membership options. He walked me through the class structure ahead of time so I would know what to expect. The culture at the gym is top notch as is the coaching. His approach to teaching was very helpful with a strong focus on foundational elements and making those easy and fun to learn regardless of experience. Highly recommend Alcateia!

I've been training under Prof. Jay for 9 years. He makes sure you've earned your rank and need to prove your skill; if you are unwilling to adapt and improve you will remain where you are for many years. Extremely high levels of accountability and ethic which I have seen lacking in much of modern BJJ practice. His teaching methods are clear and concise, with his primary interest being your personal improvement and the development the team. He has a very high level understanding of the mechanics which govern BJJ and clearly explains the details of each technique and concept. Jason demonstrates the mechanics which cause movements, pressures, and angles to successfully combine into techniques. He also teaches his students how to apply and adapt those techniques to all potential positions and opponents. I highly, highly recommend training under him for beginners, and experts. You will always discover a new way to improve!

Alcateia BJJ is a great club and Jason is a one of a kind instructor. His approach is detailed and thorough. I feel fortunate to have found the club and had the opportunity to train there. It has been a major part of my 4 kids upbringing and will continue to be.
