Visiting Markham and communicated a week in advance of my business travel plans. Response was immediate and very encouraging to come in and train. Upon arriving the students and staff were very welcoming. Professor Alex taught a great class on offense against turtle position. A very enjoyable but tough evening. I plan to make this a regular part of my annual Markham visits.

I was in town traveling and dropped in for a BJJ class. Everyone was so welcoming and the training was great. I brought a friend the next to try it for the first time and he loved it too. Would highly recommend for anyone wanted to get started or looking to train on the road.

Action & Reaction Markham is a great BJJ gym with knowledgeable coaches, a welcoming atmosphere, and supportive training partners. My son 5 year old has been here for 1 year. I highly recommend this gym to anyone looking to learn and improve their Brazilian jujitsu skills

We’ve had an incredible experience at this gym. My son has been training here since he was just 3 years old, and it’s been amazing to watch him grow in confidence, discipline, and skill. He genuinely looks forward to every class and absolutely loves all of the coaches. They have a special talent for connecting with young kids—creating a fun, supportive, and engaging environment while still teaching respect, focus, and excellent jiu-jitsu fundamentals. The community here is second to none. Everyone is welcoming, friendly, and encouraging, making both kids and parents feel like part of a family. It’s clear that the coaches truly care about every child’s development, both on and off the mats. I couldn’t recommend this gym more highly for anyone looking to introduce their child to jiu-jitsu. It’s an outstanding place with exceptional coaches, a fantastic atmosphere, and a wonderful community. Five stars all the way!

I’ve been training at ARM just over a year now, it’s run by the amazing Hepworth family! I highly recommend this school, it’s all family vibes with great classes for kids and adults. If you’re in the area, try out a class and you’ll see for yourself how special this place is. Mommy Malinda will take care of you at the front desk.

If you are looking for a jiu jitsu family & a small tight-knit community , this is the place for you! After training at the gym for just over a year now I can confidently say it’s one of the best. Professor Simon & Coach Hanna always lead a great class with amazing technique. If you have questions or are unsure , they are always around to help. Everyone here is friendly & always willing to help each other out. I noted a great difference in my development & techniques once I started training here. Malinda is also such a lovely face to see at the front desk. & Nogi with Coach Jeremie is amazing too. Even if you are a beginner , his class is awesome if you are looking to dip your toes into it but are scared too. Overall, the Hepworth family is so friendly & welcoming.

Action & Reaction has been an amazing place for my son. Coach Hanna, Professor Simon, and Malinda create an environment that truly feels like family. The coaching is top-level, and the way they connect with the kids is something special. My son has grown so much in confidence, discipline, and focus since training here. I had my very first jiu-jitsu class at Action & Reaction Markham and I genuinely had such a great experience! Coming from a kickboxing background, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I ended up really enjoying the session. The atmosphere was welcoming, and Coach Hanna was incredibly thorough and patient throughout. She took the time to explain everything clearly, making sure I felt comfortable with the techniques as a complete beginner. Her passion for teaching and attention to detail really stood out. I felt challenged in the best way and left feeling empowered and excited to learn more. I’d 100% come back and would recommend this gym to anyone curious about jiu-jitsu, whether you’re brand new or looking to build on your skills!

Our family loves Action and Reaction Markham. My son and nephew have been attending and it has been great for both of them. We could see them progress quickly and how without noticing they apply what they learn. We all learn in different ways and I really love to see how maintaining a high professional level, Action & Reaction coaches find their ways to get the best out of each student. Coach Hanna is a true champion, gentle and firm with the kids, helping them to do better and also bringing lots of fun and kindness to the mat. Coach Simon is always paying attention to details and ready to help and push in a more direct or unnoticed way, depending on what is needed at the moment. Malinda makes sure that everything runs smoothly, she will help you and make you feel welcome and part of the family from day 1. Action & Reaction is great for improving reaction, focus, discipline, making friends. Action & Reaction is an school and also a family, great for kids to make friends and parents to have a nice chat with other parents. I find that Brazilian Jiujitsu has more physical contact than karate. Karate is the other martial art that we tried few years ago for my older kid. I find that to be a great advantage, it exposes the kids to an additional challenge in a very controlled and safe environment, helping them to build resilience. I like how from a position of disadvantage they can learn to reverse the situation and feel in control and safe. Makes me want to try myself. And that is something else that I love from Action & Reaction, the great community of grown ups that come to the adult classes.

A big thank you to Action & Reaction Markham for hosting a private class for my friends and family. They had a blast getting an introduction to BJJ in a fun and safe environment. Coach Simon and Hannah did a great job explaining each technique at a pace that’s easy to follow. Special thanks to Simon, Hannah and Malinda for making my friends and family feel at home. It was a joy watching them spar on the mats for my birthday. Oss.

Ten & Reach

We’ve been meaning to share our review since Action and Reaction Markham opened. Hands down we would highly recommend Action and Reaction Markham! To learn from two of the best in BJJ with the amazing father and daughter duo in Professor Simon and Coach Hanna is a great opportunity for the kids and adults alike. The values and principles that they instill in their coaching are not just for on the mat but also off the mat - hard work, fairness, respect, discipline and to have fun as well. They are two of the most humble people that we have come to know, especially considering what they have accomplished - there are no egos, just so friendly and welcoming! It’s definitely a well-run machine, even from the beginning, with Malinda behind the scenes making sure that everything and everyone is taken care of. The facility is safe, clean and well-maintained - it’s not a surprising sight to see Professor Simon cleaning the mats - they keep on top of things. It’s truly a great place, Action and Reaction Markham fosters a strong culture of community - thank you!
