I've been training at ASD for a decade and it's my second home. Everyone there welcomed me with open arms and all the instructors put emphasis on the training of each individual students needs. I am now an instructor at this gym and have trained at multiple gyms and attended multiple seminars and there is a reason I always come back to ASD. Team ASD FOREVER!!

ASD is an amazing place to learn martial arts. I truly enjoy every class I take with every instructor. The atmosphere there can't be beat as many students are equally helpful in teaching what they know too. It's really a camaraderie at ASD. I am very glad I found ASD and look forward to learning more and more.

This is a great place to take a once a week self defense class. Being almost a senior citizen, I was wary of what would happen. I've learned a lot of good basic moves in just two months. Mike the head instructor and others are great trainers and very patient with new people.

ASD has been the best MMA gym I’ve been to. I only trained there for a few months but the instructors are incredible, eager to teach new students and will work with you if you don’t understand something right away. There are no egos at this gym. Everyone is very humble and very professional. ASD offers a wide variety of classes at a very reasonable price. If you’re in the Chicagoland area I definitely recommend ASD. Get in shape, learn to fight, get involved.

Very great place to learn the fundamentals of modern fighting. Members are easy going, and know how to put pressure so you'll actually learn. I also get to beat up Christian Alvarez as well.

I’ve studied here since 2001 and have experience training in many schools. Just this last week 3 students fought, one kickboxing, and two mma, and all three won decisively. Great program! However most of the students there are just good people who want to get in shape, learn to defend themselves, and have a good time with no negative energy.

Awesome school. Instructors are all amazing and will go out of their way to help you/answer questions. Great welcoming environment and new renovations are really nice, too. ASD is a great place to train whether your looking to loose a few pounds and just looking for something different then the treadmill, or your looking to compete. The coaches are unbelievable and due a great job breaking down techniques while ensuring you get a great workout. I can not say enough about the people who train at ASD a great group of people who will help motivate you, while having a great time.

Great place, great students, great instructors!! Comfortable atmosphere to learn and train in. Classes are well suited for beginers and more advanced people. Been here for over 10 years and wouldnt train any other place! Top notch!!

This is a small gym of caring instructors. Each instructor takes time with each student to make sure that their technique is correct. The classes are enjoyable and very educational. Each instructor brings something different to their class, which makes each class interesting and fun. I have learned so much in the women's self defense and kickboxing classes.

My home away from home!:) I love it here! I have always enjoyed women's kickboxing. I had taken it at other places before, but this place far exceeded my expectations. I started training at Academy of Self Defense in 2006 and quickly realized that they had a lot more to offer me than just women's kickboxing. I have taken their MMA classes,Jiu Jitsu, sparring, grappling, Muay Thai, Systema and knife skills and loved them all! They also have others that I have not tried, quite the variety! I enrolled my son in their Kenpo Karate classes when he was 4 and it has been nothing but a wonderful experience! They really shine with the kids classes! Now my daughter is taking them too and believe me when I say that she will have NO problem defending herself! haha The owners are very family oriented, the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful, the patrons are super nice and they are constantly striving to improve the experience. There is no doubt that these people are doing what they love to do and it shows.

To be honest with you before you sign up think about it. The instructions are good people I can’t say nothing wrong about that but the thing is you won’t learned much here. If you really wanna learn mma or kickboxing sign up at a real mma gym. When I first sign up I thought I was going real mma and I didn’t learned that much I felt like I was throwing my money away.
