San Diego has one of the busiest BJJ tournament calendars in California. Grappling Industries San Diego is the most frequent event, and the ABJJC San Diego Open, Tap Cancer Out San Diego BJJ Open and NAGA San Diego Grappling Championship all return regularly.
The Brave Kids San Diego series, run by the International Brave Jiu-Jitsu Family Federation, is dedicated to young competitors, and the ADCC US Open has been held in the city. Grappling X also runs a San Diego Jiu Jitsu Championships, and some events take place in nearby Vista and Poway.
Events are spread across the year, with November, February, August, June and September the busiest months. Gi divisions are slightly more common than No-Gi, and around three in ten events include kids or absolute divisions. Entry typically costs around $30–$105.
