Palmer is one of Alaska's more regular BJJ tournament locations, with Pioneer Grappling Academy among the organizers. Recurring events include Battle at the Fairgrounds, the Matsu Showdown and Grappling for a Cure, and Palmer has also hosted rounds of a local circuit, including the South Central Squabble.
Kids divisions are a common feature, and Palmer has also hosted a dedicated Kids BJJ Showdown. August is the busiest month, followed by December and October, with occasional events in June and November. Some area events are also held in nearby Anchorage.
