Miami has an active BJJ competition calendar, with a mix of national circuits, pro-style grappling events and local opens. Most events take place within the city.
The NEWBREED Miami Tropical Winter Open is the most frequent event, and NEWBREED also runs a spring championship. Other recurring competitions include the AGF Miami Championships, United Grappling, Grappling Series Pro Miami, the Main Character JJ Open Weight Grand Prix, the CSC Grappling Miami Open Cage Series, the PBJJF Miami Summer International Open and the Miami Xtreme Challenge grappling series. ADCC USA has also brought its US Open to Miami.
Both Gi and No-Gi events appear, and around one in five events includes an absolute division. Kids divisions are less common than in many cities. December is the busiest month, followed by November, April and October.
