Lawndale sits in a cluster of South Bay BJJ competition locations, with events in Lawndale itself and in nearby Gardena, Long Beach, El Segundo and Compton. The California Submission Series runs regular numbered events, and Cowboy Jiu-Jitsu hosts in-house tournaments. Other events include Super Cup in Long Beach, the Dark Arts Arena No-Gi tournament and a Compton Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi submission-only in-house event.
Gi and No-Gi events both appear, and submission-only rules are used at some competitions. Kids divisions are uncommon here. September is the busiest month, followed by August, April and January.
