Edinburg is the main BJJ tournament hub in the Rio Grande Valley, with a regular calendar of local grappling events. Competitions also run in nearby McAllen, Palmview and Edcouch.
The APEX Grappling Series accounts for the largest share of events in Edinburg. SubTheOpps is the most active named organizer, with numbered shows such as SubTheOpps 7: Rise of the Warrior, SubTheOpps 9: Unfinished Business and SubTheOpps 10: No Turning Back. The South Texas Nationals, the RGV Winter Classic and W.A.R Win All Rounds RGV also appear on the calendar.
Around half of events offer Gi divisions and around half offer No-Gi, and many include an absolute division. Fewer than one in five events run kids divisions. August is by far the busiest month, followed by September, January, March and February.
