Detroit has a busy BJJ competition calendar, with Grappling Industries Detroit returning several times a year as the most frequent event. Most tournaments are held in Detroit, and some also run in nearby Ann Arbor, Milford and Troy.
Other recurring competitions include the NAGA Detroit Grappling Championship, the Tap Cancer Out Detroit BJJ Open and the AGF Detroit Open and Championships. United Grappling and NEWBREED have also held events in the city.
Gi and No-Gi divisions are offered in similar measure, and around two in five events include kids and absolute divisions. Round-robin brackets under house rules are common. Entry is typically around $25–$120. October is the busiest month, followed by June, January, April and December.
