Christchurch is the main hub for Brazilian jiu jitsu competitions in the South Island of New Zealand. NZ Grappler holds its South Island Champs in the city, and Stealth Grappling runs the Christchurch Regionals as well as the Stealth Sub Series. If you are looking for a BJJ competition in Christchurch, these are the most regular events.
Submission Zone is another local organiser with recurring events, and the Goat Beach Classic has also been held in Christchurch. Gi and No-Gi divisions are offered in equal measure, and EBI/overtime rules appear at some submission-focused events. Kids and absolute divisions are less common, so check each event page before you register.
October and August are the busiest months for grappling events in Christchurch, with further competitions in February, March and July. The calendar is smaller than in Auckland, so it is worth checking this page regularly for new jiu jitsu competitions as organisers announce them, and keeping an eye on events elsewhere in New Zealand for extra chances to compete.
