Azusa and the surrounding San Gabriel Valley host a regular mix of BJJ tournaments, with events also in nearby Covina, Arcadia and Baldwin Park. Recurring competitions include the Mat Beast Team Championships, the Tap Cancer Out Los Angeles BJJ Open and Grappling X, alongside events from the Golden Jiu Jitsu Federation, the CompNet California Winter Championship and Dream BJJ's kids Gi events.
Gi divisions are slightly more common than No-Gi, around a third of events include an absolute and roughly one in five runs kids divisions. Double-elimination brackets are used at some events. May and February are the busiest months, followed by November and September.
