Des Moines hosts most of Iowa's BJJ tournaments, with Sioux City and Bettendorf in the Quad Cities also on the calendar.
Sub Spectrum is the main local promotion, running The Midlands No-Gi Championships plus adult No-Gi events such as MayDay and Fallout, and Future Stars of Sub Spectrum events for kids and teens in Gi and No-Gi. Submission Challenge runs regular events in Des Moines and Sioux City, and FUJI BJJ holds its Quad Cities Fall Open in Bettendorf.
Gi and No-Gi are offered equally often, around a third of events run kids divisions, and many include absolutes. EBI-style overtime rules and double elimination brackets are common. Adult entry usually costs around $36–$86. November is the busiest month, followed by October.
