To ensure every competitor gets matches, we’ve built flexibility into registration. If your division does not fill, you’ll choose your preference during signup:
- Move up a weight division (you set your maximum weight)
- Move up or down an age division (you set your maximum age)
- Move up a belt division (you set your maximum belt)
- Or, select a full refund if you prefer not to move
This way, every competitor is protected — you’ll either compete within your chosen limits or receive your money back.

📜 Format & Rules
Match Duration
Match times are determined by athlete level:
- White Belt (Beginner): 5 minutes
- Blue Belt (Intermediate): 6 minutes
- Purple Belt (Advanced): 7 minutes
- Brown and Black Belts (Expert): 7 minutes
Scoring System
The scoring system will follow IBJJF rules, without advantages. Points are awarded only after 3 seconds of positional control, as determined by the referee.
Points Allocation
- Takedown: 2 points
- Sweep: 2 points
- Knee on Belly: 2 points
- Guard Pass: 3 points
- Mount: 4 points
- Back Control (with hooks or body triangle): 4 points
⚠️ No advantages will be awarded. Only points and penalties count toward the final score.
Tie-Break Criteria
In the event of a draw at the end of regulation, the match will proceed to a 2-minute Golden Score period.
- The first athlete to score during Golden Score will be declared the winner.
If the match remains tied after Golden Score, the bout will be decided by EBI Overtime rules, as outlined below:
EBI Overtime (Tie-Break)
- Athletes will alternate starting positions: Back control (with seatbelt and hooks/body triangle), and Armbar/Spider-Web position
- Back control (with seatbelt and hooks/body triangle), and
- Armbar/Spider-Wed position (Top player on hand on the floor)
- Each athlete will have an equal number of attempts. (Best 2 out of 3)
- The winner is determined by: Fastest submission, or If no submission occurs, the athlete who escapes in the shortest time.
- Fastest submission, or
- If no submission occurs, the athlete who escapes in the shortest time.
- If still tied, the referee will determine the winner based on overall performance and submission attempts.
NO GI Ruleset & Modifications
All other technical rules — including legal and illegal techniques, penalties, weight divisions, uniform requirements, and athlete conduct — will follow the official IBJJF ruleset, with the following modifications specific to this event:
- Leg reaping is allowed in all NO GI divisions.
- Beginner and Intermediate NO GI divisions: Leg reaping is permitted for positional control only. Submission attempts from a reaping position are not allowed.
- Leg reaping is permitted for positional control only.
- Submission attempts from a reaping position are NOT allowed in the GI.
- Advanced and Expert divisions (No Gi ONLY): Leg reaping is fully permitted, including submission attempts from reaping positions.
- Leg reaping is fully permitted, including submission attempts from reaping positions in NO GI ONLY.
Any action not explicitly modified above will be governed by the current IBJJF rules.
