Kia ora everyone! We're excited to announce the Waikato/BOP SAMBO Open, 5th July 2025!
This is an opportunity to meet and interact with the New Zealand SAMBO Federation. They will be available to answer questions and receive feedback as we develop this new sport within New Zealand.
This is an OPEN DAY, with public demonstrations for Athletes and Coaches, including seminars and examinations. To conclude the day, there will be both exhibition matches for participants to gain experience and qualifying matches for those interested in competing in the World Youth and Junior SAMBO Championships (Men & Women - youth; Men & Women, Combat SAMBO - juniors) in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Additionally, there will be qualifying matches for the World Sambo Championships (Sport SAMBO - Men & Women; Combat SAMBO - Men & Women) scheduled to take place in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, in 2025.

Registration:
- Registration for International Team closes promptly on Wednesday, 2nd July, at 11:59 pm (noon). Make sure to complete your registration before this deadline to secure your spot in the competition.
- Brackets detailing matchups and schedules will be posted on Wednesday, 2nd July, at 9 pm.
Details:
- Weight-in will take place from 1 pm on Saturday, 5th July March, at Hamilton Skating Rink.
- It's crucial that all participants fit into their registered weight categories, and remember, you'll be weighed with your gear on.
- Weight tolerance of 0.5 kg allowed. However, if you're still outside this range, you may be moved to a different category that aligns better with your weight.
The gear requirements:
- You can wear either a judo jacket (also known as a judogi) or a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) gi. Make sure it's in good condition and meets competition standards.
- Participants are required to wear shorts during matches. Choose comfortable and appropriate shorts that allow for movement
- Wrestling shoes are optional and can only be worn if both competitors agree.
(Some gear may be able to be used if available)
