Honouring the Founders of Our Art
The Legacy Cup celebrates the extraordinary contributions of:
- Mitsuyo Maeda β The Kodokan judoka whose journey to Brazil in 1914 planted the seeds of what would become Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
- Carlos Gracie Sr. β The first of the Gracie family to dedicate himself to Jiu-Jitsu, laying the foundation for its development in Brazil.
- Helio Gracie β A visionary who refined and adapted the art, ensuring it could be practiced effectively regardless of size or strength.

The Legacy Cup is not just another competition it is a tribute to the history, evolution, and enduring spirit of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
This special event celebrates the work, sacrifice, and innovation of the Grand Masters who shaped the art we practice today. It is our way of preserving their teachings, respecting their journey, and keeping the past alive for the next generation.

Weigh-in & Check-in: From 9:30 AM Event Starts: 9:30 AM
Sunday β All Day Event Gi & No-Gi | All Belts
Kids compete Sunday morning. Adults compete Sunday afternoon.
π REGISTRATION INFORMATION
β NZBJJF MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED
All competitors must have a current NZBJJF membership to compete in nationwide NZBJJF events.
To complete registration, athletes must authenticate their membership through Smoothcomp: https://nzbjjf.smoothcomp.com/en/federation/109/membership

π RULES β IBJJF
This event follows the official IBJJF Rules: https://ibjjf.com/rules
Age divisions follow the IBJJF year-of-birth system (calculated as at 31 December of the competition year).
Example: An athlete born 12/09/2013 will compete in the 13-year-old division.
βοΈ Weight Selection
Weight categories are listed as net weight, with the Gi or No-Gi allowance included in brackets.
Example: 79kg (82.3kg) Gi = Under 79kg net body weight and under 82.3kg including full Gi at weigh-in.
π CHECKING DAY
The day after registrations close is Checking Day.
On this day competitors must: β’ Confirm their division is correct β’ Ensure they have opponents β’ Make any necessary changes β’ Cancel registration via Smoothcomp if required
After Checking Day, entries are non-refundable.

β’ Until the last day of registration: 100% refund β’ During Checking Day: Partial refund available β’ After Checking Day: No refunds

π₯ Early Bird Registration Discount available for a limited time. π₯ Register for BOTH Gi and No-Gi and receive a special two-division discount.
β IMPORTANT NOTICE
Avoid disappointment on competition day:
Any athlete (children, juveniles, and adults) who weighs over their registered division will be disqualified immediately.
There will be NO division changes on the day and NO refunds once brackets are live.
