THINGS WE DO DIFFERENTLY
| ALL LEVELS | We run divisions for all belt levels for all age groups and genders, as per a regular IBJJF ruleset Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competition in Repechage format (Double Elimination). Everyone get at least 2 matches for each division if you have opponents in your division. BLACK BELTS COMPETE FOR FREE. |
| NOVICE DIVISION | The Novice Division is for competitors who is: competing for the first time AND have less than 1 year of grappling experience (including BJJ, Judo and wrestling). All participants must be white belts and will compete against others with similar experience. We rely on competitors to be honest, to ensure fair and supportive environment for first competitors to test their skills. |
| MAIN EVENT: QUINTET 5v5 (Blue belts only) | The Quintet Team Battle features teams of five competitors facing off against each other in a best of five matches format. Team with 3 wins will advance to the next round. More information in the "QUINTET" tab. |
| NO MIXED GENDER DIVISION FOR KIDS | We don't have mixed gender divisions for girls under 18. This division eliminates mixed competition with boys, providing a supportive and empowering environment where young female athletes can test their skills and gain valuable competition experience. It's designed to create a more equitable and encouraging space for girls in Jiu-Jitsu. |
RULES AND FORMAT:
- All matches for both adults and kids follow the IBJJF competition ruleset.
- We run our matches in Repechage Format (Double Elimination). This allows all our athletes to get at least 2 matches for each division, provided if your opponent present at the competit.
- All competitors are expected to be familiar with the IBJJF rules, weigh in and uniform requirements prior to arriving at the competition. In order to help new competitors learn more about the rules, we release videos every week leading up to the competition to guide you through IBJJF rules.

REGISTRATIONS: Registration must be completed and paid in full before the event's deadline. Unpaid registrations by the deadline will be considered incomplete.

SPECTATOR FEES
Adults: $15 per person
• All spectators under 12 are free, however they must be accompanied by 1 adult.
• One (1) parent or guardian per child can enter for free if their kids have participated in the Kids and Juvenile Divisions.
• Only One (1) coach per team can enter for free, no other coaches can enter for free. Coaches must register to get the free ticket. REGISTER HERE

WEIGHT DIVISION: All competitors will be weighing in no gi uniform for either division. Once you have passed weigh in, you will be passed for both divisions.
*No additional weight allowance will be given. If the competitor is over their weight division, they will be disqualified.

AGE DIVISION: Sydney Grappling Championship calculates the competitor's age category based on the birth year of the athlete. If you are born in 2000, you will be calculated as 26 years old.

RESPONSIBILITY TO CHANGE DIVISIONS
- It is the full responsibility of the athlete (for kids and juveniles: parents, guardians and/or coaches) to change divisions or withdraw from the competition if they find themselves in a single fighter category or do not wish to be merged by the organisers.
- All athletes have until 11:59pm of the Check and Change day (May 26th) to edit their registration or withdraw from the competition.
- Any athletes that are left in a single fighter category after 11:59pm on the 26th May will receive a gold medal after completing and passing uniform check and weigh in. Your gold medal will not award any points that contribute to your team score.
- Division changes must be done via Smoothcomp before the Check and Change day. There is no refund and athletes cannot change their division after the Check and Change Day.

WEIGH IN:
• Competitors must be weighed in, pass uniform check and wait in the warm up area at least 60min before their scheduled match. Competitors are required to stay inside the competition area once weighed in.
• Please check your bracket time regularly as the schedule is dynamic and frequently changes.
• You will be disqualified if you miss your weigh in.
• Please ensure that you are able to hear your mat's marshall when you are in the competition area.
IMMEDIATE DISQUALIFICATION IF YOU:
• Leave the mat area you are scheduled to compete on.
• Not responding when called to compete due to usage of ear phones, or similar devices.

UNIFORM REQUIREMENT:
For Gi Divisions
- You are welcome to wear gi of any colour
- Belt colour must match the belt rank you have registered for
- We follow IBJJF Gi measurements
- Undergarments must be worn under the uniform
For No Gi Divisions
- You are welcome to wear rashguard of any colour (it doesn’t have to be ranked)
- No shirtless, T-shirts or loose rashguards
- Undergarments must be worn under the uniform
- No pockets, zippers, metals and plastics
- Spats and fight shorts are permitted, however sport shorts or board shorts are not allowed.

JUNIORS TRANSITIONING INTO JUVENILE/ADULTS BELT RANKS
• Under the IBJJF guidelines, kids transitioning to Juveniles must wear either Blue or Purple belts at their coaches' discretion.
• Juveniles are not allowed to compete wearing Junior coloured belts (Grey, Yellow, Orange or Green).
• Juveniles will not be permitted to change to a white belt rank if they have previously achieved a junior colour ranking.

TEAM/ACADEMY: It is the Athlete's responsible to ensure they have registered under the correct academy/team name. Once registration is completed, this cannot be altered.

MEDALS AND GIFTS: Competitors must receive their medals on the podium alongside the other athletes who placed in their division. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of the medal, and may lead to disciplinary action, including potential disqualification from other divisions in the same tournament for unsportsmanlike conduct. Any gifts, prizes, T-shirts or other awards must be collected on the day of the competition. Unclaimed items will not be distributed later and will be forfeited.

RISK AND INSURANCE:
The competitor and/or their guardian (if under 18) acknowledges and agrees that the competitor is solely responsible for obtaining any necessary insurance for loss, medical, hospital, life, income protection, personal, property, or any other risks or damages they may suffer or cause, either directly or indirectly. The competitor understands that failure to secure proper insurance against accidents, injuries, damage, or loss is at their own risk.
Additionally, the competitor and/or their guardian agrees to indemnify the Sydney Grappling Championship against any loss or damage arising directly or indirectly from the competitor’s participation in the event.
The competitor also agrees to make themselves available for pre and post-bout medical examinations, including drug testing, at the discretion of the Sydney Grappling Championship. Participation in the event will be subject to the interpretation of these test results and the sole discretion of the event organizers.

PARAMEDICS: We have qualified first aid team on site who can treat injuries and provide pain relief immediately. If escalated medical attention is required, the necessary arrangements will be made.
