NSW State Championships 2026
This is the official state titles and the most prestigious event on the NSW wrestling calendar. We strongly encourage all competitive wrestlers to register and stake their claim as the state's best.
Performance at this event will be a key factor for selection criteria for other NSW events in 2026, including state team selections, domestic and international training camps, sponsorship opportunities, and more.
Most importantly: All winners of the Senior Freestyle Divisions (with 4 or more participants) will be invited to Japan Open 2026 competition, which will be held in the second half of the year.
π¨ Eligibility & Membership (Mandatory)
A valid 2026 membership with NSW Wrestling (or your home state's Wrestling Australia affiliated association) is MANDATORY for all competitors. This is a strict legal and insurance requirement.
There are no exceptions to this rule. Your membership status will be checked, and you will not be permitted to compete without a valid membership.
- NSW Athletes: Must have a valid wrestling membership. Both State and National Level Memberships are accepted.
- Interstate Athletes: You are welcome! Your valid 2026 membership from your home state's association is accepted.
- International Athletes: You are welcome to compete, but you must purchase a 2026 membership from NSW Wrestling to be eligible.

Please note: All times are estimates and subject to change.
- Juniors (U18 & Below):Weigh-in: 7:30 AM β 8:00 AMCompetition Start: 8:30 AM (Approx.)
- Seniors (18+):Weigh-in (Choose ONE slot): 7:30-8:00 AM OR 12:00-12:30 PMCompetition Start: 1:00 PM (Approx.)
π Rules & Regulations
- Ruleset: The official UWW Ruleset will be followed for all age groups.
- Changes & Cancellations: The last chance to cancel or edit your registration (which you can do yourself via Smoothcomp) is 15-01-2026. This is one day after late registration closes. Please note that no refunds or changes can be made after 15-01-2026.
- Missing Weight: We cannot accommodate last-minute weight changes. If you miss your registered weight (even by 10g), you will not be able to compete.
- Min Bracket Requirements: For Senior (18+) divisions, any category with only 1 registered wrestler will be cancelled. No title or medal will be awarded, and your entry fee will be fully refunded.
- Australian Citizenship: Not required. This event is open to all members of NSW Wrestling and other Wrestling Australia affiliated states.
- Safety: A standard routine skin check may be carried out at weigh-ins.
π€Ό Uniform & Equipment (Mandatory)
- Singlets: An approved wrestling singlet is mandatory. Shorts, t-shirts, rash guards, or BJJ uniforms are strictly prohibited.
- Red/Blue Assignment: You must have BOTH a red and a blue singlet. When checking your match on Smoothcomp, the wrestler listed on TOP must wear RED. The wrestler listed on the BOTTOM must wear BLUE.
- Uniform Exception: Girls are permitted to wear a long rash guard underneath their singlets and cover their hair for religious reasons. However please note that no loose clothing is allowed.
- Shoes: Wrestling shoes are mandatory. You will not be allowed to compete without them.
Bracketing System
True Round Robin: For brackets with 5 and less participants
Best of two pools: For brackets of 6-7 participants. One Bronze medal winner.
Double Elimination, Double Bronze: For brackets with 8 or more participants. Two Bronze medals winners.

When entering your child, please follow this 2-step process to ensure they are in the correct division:
- Age: Register your child in the age bracket for the age they will turn during the 2026 calendar year.
- Weight: Weigh your child accurately. If they are close to a weight limit, we strongly recommend registering them in the next weight bracket up. We cannot process changes on the day if they miss weight.
