Kaiten Mixed Martial Arts Academy is very proud to present the fourth annual Northern BC Combat Challenge, in the Center of the four directions, this year we have the return of our Brazilian Jujitsu Gi and NO-Gi divisions. And the Gladiator Galbraith Adult Open divisions with its one of a kind prize to the grand champion of each division.

INVITE: Who is invited? Can I compete?
We invite any grappling genre martial arts from Northern BC and beyond to join us as we develop the local competition scene for mutual benefit and to allow for expansion of the local martial art scene. Bring your team, or your family and come and represent your school or style ! You simply must abide by the rules and regulation outlined on this email/letter/associated web pages.
***NEW*** This year we welcome all adult competitors to challenge them selves in the Gladiator Galbraith open. This will be held in No-Gi male and female divisions. Watch the page for the up coming release of the unique grad trophy to be awarded to the champion of each open division. To be awarded a helmet there must be at least one match no walk off winners.
**Canceled***: ​DUE to our Northern BC Combat Challenge's commitment to SAFTEY , and for us to meet the goals of what we envision, we have to ***Canceled*** our KICKBOXING Divisions. In order for us to meet our goals and our vision of what we need to create and meet the standards to get approval from the BC Athletic Divisions, we will need much more time to make everything perfect so we can achieve our goal. Which is to make this the safest, most organized tournament that we can offer. *****CANCELED****.

On May 02, 2025 Northern BC Combat Challenge will be offering Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Gi and No-Gi Grappling divisions in a submission-only double elimination format.
Kids 6 -15years old: 3-minute rounds
Adults: 5- minute rounds
BJJ and No-Gi BJJ Divisions, **Submissions Only**, NO points NO- Tie breaker speed rounds
Kids grappling matches start at 9:30am sharp. Spectator admission is 10$ Kids and seniors $5 /Under 5 FREE
PLEASE NOTE- We will give advance notice as we can only match opponents from the registered pool of competitors. Please note the advance withdrawal dates as any competitions without enough matches will be offered to move up to alternative brackets or withdraw before the event.
IT IS A GOAL FOR OUR EVENT TO INSURE FAIRNESS AND TO DO OUR BEST APPROACHING THE EVENT TO CREATE DIVISIONS FOR COMPETITORS. BY MATCHING THE COMPETITOR’S SEX, WEIGHT, AGE, AND EXPERIENCE. IF NO BRACKETS ARE AVALIBLE COMPETITORS WILL EITHER BE MOVED UP BY: SEX, AGE, WEIGHT, EXPERIANCE OR WILL BE OFFERED A FULL REFUND OF TURNAMENT DUES. OUR GOAL IS TO START ON TIME AND PROVIDE SOUND WITH DJ AS IN ALL OF OUR EVENTS.
SUBMISSION GRAPPLING RULES:
This tournament is based on Submission only format where as a successful submission is the clear winner. If the match goes to a referees decisions then submission attempts will be tallied for amount of attacks, the depth of each attacks, the hierarchy of attacks determining the winner should a clear submission not generate a tap from opponents or stoppage by referee.
The referees will break up fights if a competitor is in a submission hold and does not try to escape effectively right away, but it is up to the competitor to tap or optionally continue to compete.
All matches start from standing. Fighters who move outside the border when standing can (at the discretion of the referee) be restarted in the center of the mat. If fighters move outside the area while on the ground (both fighters have at least one knee down) the action will be stopped and they are moved back to the centre of the mat in the last position they were in before going out of bounds. Deliberately or repeatedly moving outside the border will be considered as stalling and penalized accordingly.
Ways to win
1.) By submission (physical and/or verbal) or by referee stoppage due to submission
2.) Injury or rule infringement (DQ)
3.) If your opponent has to leave the mat / opponent not being on the mat
Grappling divisions Gi and No-gi

The grappling divisions will be submission only – scoring criteria described below
1.)Kids Gi and No GI Divisions will be 3 minute matches.
2.)Adult and Juvenile white belts 5 minute matches
3.) Blue belt Adult and Juvenile 6 minutes.
4.) Adult Purple belt 7 minutes,
5.) Brown and Black belt 10 minute matches.
6.) Master divisions 35 yrs up are 5 minute matches.
Spectators Fee is $10 13+, $5 per child 5-13 and senior65+, Children under 5 are FREE . 2 Coaches per team have FREE entry and do not require a pass for this tournament. However, coaches, any verbal abuse or manipulation to refs will not be tolerated and you will be asked to leave the building.
Juveniles: will follow IBJJF White belt Standard for legal submissions
- adult/masters: white belts will follow IBJJF white belt standard for legal submissions. Purple belt and up will be Black Belt Adult IBJJF standard.

AGE CLASSES
Juvenile: Age 16 – 17
Adults: 2 age groups for adults
1. ADULT (18 + years old)
2. MASTERS 1 (35 + years old)
Weigh-ins are held the same day of the event. Weigh ins are done with the full nogi attire on.
Bouts will consist of 1 round.
COACHING –
Mat side coaching will be permitted for kids under that age of -10 yrs. For kids +10 yrs , juveniles, and adults, coaching will be permitted but they must stay behind the border.
If you are competing in gi and no gi you need to register for the same weight class for both. You only weigh in one time and that is for your gi event. If you are only competing in no gi you will weigh-in in your no gi attire.
All coaches note that you are all under our terms and conditions and we reserve the right to remove anyone from the event for any reason.
