Tournament Format
- Bracket: 8 teams, single-elimination
- Roster / Weight Cap:
- Up to 6 athletes (5 starters + 1 optional substitute)
- Total combined weight of a 5 man team is 850
- Total combined weight of a 6 man team (1 substitute) is 1020
- Blue Belt Bracket: (no college wrestling experience or Judo Black Belts)
- Team Integrity: All team members must train primarily at the same academyβno βall-starβ teams from multiple different schools
- Seeding: Based on combined quantity of competitions among top 5 competitors
Quintet-Style Team Match Rules (5 vs 5)
- Single Elimination
- Matches are 5 vs 5, winner-stays-in format.
- Individual matches are 4 minutes.
- Submission = winner stays in, 1 minute rest; losing team sends next athlete.
- If no submission in 4 minutes, both athletes are eliminated.
- A team wins by eliminating all five opponents.
- If the team match ends in a draw, each coach selects one athlete on the opposing team for EBI Overtime (6th man substitute may be selected.)
- 3 rounds of EBI OT determines the winning team.
- Substitution only allowed before a new round begins (in between quarter finals and semi finals)
- Once a sub enters, that lineup is locked for the rest of the event
Legal & Illegal Techniques for Team Matches
Blue Belts
- No Twisting Leg Locks or Knee Locks (Heel Hook, Toe Hold, Aoki, Woj, Knee bar, Calf Slicers)
- Straight ankle locks, Reaping, Groin stretches (electric chair, banana split) are allowed
- All Upper Body Submissions Allowed
Purple/Brown Belts
- All Subs Legal
PROHIBITED BY ALL
- Slams or lifting opponent above knees to get out of submission
- Guard jumping / flying submissions
- Can-opener neck crank
- Hand to Mouth smothering
- Grinding Knuckles or Forearm into face
- Small-joint manipulation (β€ 3 fingers/toes)
Special Match Rules
-Rules are the same as team matches, except purple belt+ are allowed all leg locks
-If no submission is achieved during regulation, the match will be decided with three rounds of EBI Overtime.
