MADAGASCAR INTERNATIONAL BJJ OPEN 2025

Madagascar International BJJ Open — Purpose & Context

Officially established in March 2023, the Malagasy Jiu-Jitsu Federation (FMJJ) now brings together 20+ clubs across the country and runs a steady calendar of local competitions. To put our national level into real competition against international standards—and to draw the African continent closer to the Big Island—FMJJ is launching the Madagascar International BJJ Open.

This will be a GI-only event under IBJJF rules, welcoming multiple nationalities from Africa and the Indian Ocean region. Beyond medals, the Open is designed to increase high-level match experience for Malagasy athletes, especially the youth, and to engage the Malagasy diaspora—inviting them to compete, mentor, and help raise the standard of the sport at home. By hosting an international meet in Antananarivo, FMJJ aims to build durable competitive ties with neighboring federations, encourage regular exchanges (athletes, coaches, referees), and position Madagascar as a credible stop on the regional BJJ map.
