The following actions are prohibited for all competitors unless specifically permitted under a division rule. Any competitor who performs a prohibited action may be disqualified at the referee or judge’s discretion.

Prohibited actions include but are not limited to:

  • Eye gouging or manipulation of the eyes
  • Biting, spitting, hair pulling, or unsportsmanlike conduct
  • Strikes to the back of the head, spine, or throat
  • Groin strikes of any kind
  • Small joint manipulation (twisting or bending fingers or toes)
  • Head butts or intentional head collisions
  • Throwing an opponent on their head or neck, or any technique that risks spinal injury
  • Neck cranks or pressure on the cervical spine that is not a standard submission hold
  • Heel hooks and reaping with rotational leg locks
  • Knee strikes to the head of a grounded opponent
  • Strikes to the kidneys from the rear
  • Chokes or submissions that deliberately target the airway in a dangerous way
  • Use of hard or illegal equipment, sharp objects, or altered striking surfaces
  • Intentional slams to cause injury beyond normal match risk
  • Any technique specifically restricted by division or age

Age and Division Notes:

  • Kids divisions follow stricter safety rules enforced by referees
  • Any technique not explicitly allowed should be treated as prohibited until clarified by an official
