Description
Welcome to HUB Grappling located in Truro NS. We’re excited to present a new an exciting tournament option for all those who compete within the BJJ community. This is our first event, and our goal is to provide competitors with the best overall experience possible. We will be working hard to ensure that the day runs smoothly and efficiently so people don’t have to spend all day at the venue.
This event is designed to reward action packed matches, hard work and going for the submission finish. To encourage exciting matches, we will be offering 3 rewards after the end of the competition day. The prizes will be announced before the end of the tournament registration.
The 1st reward will be for the FASTEST Submission of the day. This will be decided by the time stamp on smoothcomp. Smoothcomp will record the time and at the end of the event we will announce the prize to the individual.
The 2nd reward being offered is for BEST SUBMISSION of the day. We are in a time where everyone has a cell phone and can record matches for their friends and teammates. If you feel you have achieved a sub of the day, you can send the organizers the videos (details to come) and once the refs have the opportunity to view the clips, they will make a judgment on who in fact had the best sub. The best sub doesn’t have to be something rare or unique, but those types of submissions will definitely get attention. The refs will be looking for other variables, such as clean transitions into the sub, pulling off a sub while being in danger (the Hail-Mary sub) , as well as the cleanness of the submission (was the technique perfect). Pulling off a submission while keeping your opponent safe from injury will be another factor to consider. Please Keep Each Other Safe
The 3rd reward for action is going to be based on the Best division of the day. This will be based on feedback from refs, table workers, the event volunteers as well as from spectators. The best division of the day will be the division in which the most action has played out. Seeing people fight until they have nothing left, matches that are back and forth, tons of submission attempts and escapes. These divisions often have a group of spectators cheering and the energy is palpable. All competitors in the division will receive a reward regardless of placement in the division. This is open to all divisions from the youngest group to the oldest.
Join Us in Supporting the Next Generation of Jiu Jitsu Athletes
We’re excited to invite you to our upcoming jiu jitsu tournament, a community‑driven event dedicated to supporting our youth competition team. This tournament isn’t just an opportunity to enjoy a full day of skill, sportsmanship, and high‑energy matches — it’s a chance to directly invest in the growth and development of young athletes who train hard and represent our community with pride.
Funds raised will help cover travel expenses, tournament fees, and essential training resources for the kids’ team, ensuring they have every opportunity to compete, learn, and succeed.
Your attendance makes a meaningful difference. Whether you’re cheering from the stands, supporting a young competitor, or simply enjoying the action, you’re helping create opportunities that last far beyond the mats.
There will be a cash only canteen as part of our fundraiser
We hope to see you there and appreciate your support in empowering the next generation of jiu jitsu talent.

Weigh-ins: KIDS/YOUTH: The doors will be open at 8:30am, we recommend getting there around that time to ensure the event runs smoothly and people are properly registered into their perspective divisions. There will be a 2 lbs allowance as people can fluctuate several pounds in a 24-hour period. If you are over or under the weight allowance, you will be moved to the appropriate weight bracket.
ADULTS: The weigh-ins will start for adult competitors at 11:30am. That will keep the numbers reasonable in the venue and will limit the amount of time needed to present the event.
We aim to have all kid/youth divisions before the adults get fully underway.
Location: Truro Middle School
445 Young St, Truro Nova Scotia
What do we offer:
We will have both Gi and No-Gi divisions for kids and youth up to 14 years of age.
We will be using a IBJJF scoring system for these divisions while still placing an emphasis on finishing the match via submission.
Rules for Teens, Juvenile and Adults will be based on the ADCC style format.
The first 2 minutes for Teens and 2.5 minutes for Juvenile and Adults will be submission only and the last 2 minutes for Teens or 2.5 for Juvenile and Adults will allow for points to help ensure a clear winner at the end of the match.
***If there are no points for either competitor or they have an even score there will be a
1-minute sudden death round. The winner will be based on the first points scored via takedown, guard pass, or entering/settling into a dominate position such as mount, side/back control, or casa. If there is no clear winner at the end of the 1 minute round the ref will make a decision based on aggression.
There will be medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
There are custom trophies for the top 3 best Academies tabulated via Smoothcomp.
The Absolute division winner will be awarded the Grand Prize of $500.00 for the Male and Female divisions
