Description

The Canadian Universities Jiu-Jitsu Championship (CUJC) returns for its second edition on Saturday, March 13, 2027, bringing university and college jiu-jitsu athletes from across Canada together to compete, connect, and represent their schools on the national stage.

Organized by the Canadian Universities Jiu-Jitsu Association (CUJA) and sanctioned by the Ontario Jiu-Jitsu Association (OJA), CUJC was established in 2026 as Canada’s first national inter-university Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu championship.

The inaugural event welcomed 170 competitors representing 15 post-secondary institutions from across the country, marking a major step forward for university jiu-jitsu in Canada.

In 2027, CUJC returns with an even bigger goal: to continue building a national competitive pathway for student-athletes and strengthen the growing university jiu-jitsu community across Canada.

All currently registered university and college students are welcome to compete, from undergraduate to graduate level.

To complete registration, all athletes must email info@cuja.ca and:

  • Provide a photo of their valid student ID.
  • Provide their official university or college email address.
  • Follow the verification instructions sent to their institutional email in accordance with CUJA’s eligibility policy.
  • Provide additional proof of enrolment if requested by CUJA. Maintaining the integrity of student-athlete eligibility is an important part of the championship.

CUJA-Affiliated University Clubs

If your university already has a jiu-jitsu club affiliated with CUJA, you must be cleared by your university’s club before competing at CUJC 2027. This ensures that athletes representing a CUJA-affiliated university are recognized by their school’s jiu-jitsu program and are eligible to represent that institution at the championship.

This requirement currently applies to students from:

  • Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU)
  • University of Toronto (UofT)
  • Queen’s University
  • Wilfrid Laurier University
  • McMaster University
  • University of British Columbia (UBC)
  • University of Victoria (UVic)

Students from these universities should contact their respective university jiu-jitsu club before or immediately after registering for CUJC. Your registration will not be considered fully cleared until your university club confirms your eligibility to represent the institution.

Students attending universities or colleges that do not currently have a CUJA-affiliated jiu-jitsu club may register independently and will be verified directly by CUJA.

Divisions Include:

  • Gi & No-Gi Individual Divisions — organized by belt, weight, and gender.
  • Competitors may register for both Gi and No-Gi divisions under the same registration fee.
  • Co-Ed Quintet Team Matches — university teams composed of 3 men and 2 women compete together, bringing a true team championship element to university jiu-jitsu.
  • Individual and team results contribute toward the CUJC University Championship standings, with schools competing to be crowned Canada’s university jiu-jitsu champion.

Whether you are a white belt competing for the first time, an experienced athlete pursuing a national title, or part of a university team fighting for the Championship Cup, CUJC 2027 is your opportunity to represent your school and compete alongside student-athletes from across Canada.
