EVENT OVERVIEW
The Canadian Open 2026 marks a historic milestone for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Canada:
- The first Canadian Open ever held in Canada
- The first official tournament hosted by the Sport Jiu-Jitsu Canada Federation (SJJCANF)
- The first Sport Jiu-Jitsu International Federation (SJJIF)–sanctioned Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament in Canada
As an international Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament, the Canadian Open is part of the global SJJIF competition circuit, operating across Canada, the United States, Mexico, China, Japan, and countries worldwide. This event officially places Canada on the international sport jiu-jitsu stage under a unified rule set and federation structure.
Hosted by SJJCANF, the Canadian Open brings together athletes from across Canada and around the world to compete in Gi and No-Gi divisions at the highest amateur level.

Welcome to the Canadian Open. This is more than just a tournament—it’s a key step in building the future of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Canada.
As a non-profit federation, the Sport Jiu-Jitsu Canada Federation (SJJCANF) exists to give back to the athletes. Every event we run is designed with one purpose: athlete development. From affordable registration and fair divisions to international-standard rules and professional event structure, our focus is on creating real value and opportunity for competitors at every level.
The Canadian Open also serves as an official qualifier for the upcoming SJJIF World Championship in Tokyo, Japan. All Adults/ Masters First-place winners in each division automatically qualify to represent Canada at the SJJIF World Championships, earning the opportunity to compete on the world stage under the Canadian banner.
Whether this is your first competition or part of a long competitive journey, you are helping build a unified, athlete-first pathway for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Canada.

SPECTATOR INFORMATION
- Spectator Fee: $10 at the door (cash only)
- Children under 7: Free
- BJJ Black Belts: Free
WEIGH-IN RULES
Kids Divisions
- 2 lb weight allowance
- Athletes exceeding this allowance will be disqualified
- Please register children in a division they can safely make weight
Juvenile & Adult Divisions
- No weight allowance
- Athletes must make weight exactly
- Weigh-ins must be completed in full competition attire(Gi for Gi divisions / No-Gi uniform for No-Gi divisions)
IMPORTANT DEADLINES
- Division Change Deadline: Tuesday, June 23, 2026
- Registration Closes: Monday, June 22, 2026 at Midnight (or once capacity is reached)
- Brackets & Schedule Posted: Thursday, June 25, 2026
No division changes will be accepted after June 23, 2026. Athletes are responsible for reviewing their registration details and weight class before the deadline.
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFICATION
ALL ADULTS & MASTERS ONLY
- This event is an official SJJIF World Championship qualifier
- ALL ADULTS and MASTERS First-place finishers automatically qualify to represent Canada at the SJJIF World Championship in Tokyo, Japan
- Qualification is subject to compliance with all eligibility, ranking, and disciplinary policies
ANTI-SANDBAGGING & ATHLETE ELIGIBILITY POLICY (SJJIF)
The Canadian Open is conducted under SJJIF rules, with a strong emphasis on fair competition and athlete safety.
Sandbagging—intentionally competing below one’s true skill level—is strictly prohibited.
Enforcement
- SJJCANF and event officials reserve the right to review athlete eligibility at any time
- Athletes may be reclassified, disqualified, or removed from qualification if registered incorrectly
Penalties
Violations may result in:
- Disqualification without refund
- Forfeiture of medals, titles, and World Championship qualification
- Suspension or disciplinary action under SJJIF regulations
Any athlete found sandbagging will be immediately disqualified from World Championship qualification.
Athletes and coaches are responsible for ensuring correct registration.

SJJCANF MEMBERSHIP (REQUIRED)
All competitors must hold a valid Sport Jiu-Jitsu Canada Federation (SJJCANF) membership.
- Membership is mandatory for all divisions
- Must be active at the time of competition
- Athletes without valid membership will not be permitted to compete
