The Amsterdam Grappling Invitational (AGI) uses a 16-athlete double-elimination bracket for every division.
Unlike traditional tournaments with unlimited registrations, each category is limited to a maximum of 16 confirmed competitors. Once all 16 confirmed spots are filled, registration for that division will automatically close.
Submitting your registration does not guarantee your place in the bracket.
On Smoothcomp, athletes who have registered but have not yet completed payment will appear as "unconfirmed" competitors. Unconfirmed registrations do not count toward the 16-athlete limit and do not reserve a spot.
Your place in the division is only guaranteed once your registration has been fully paid and confirmed.
If a division appears to have 16 names but some athletes are still marked as Unconfirmed, those positions remain available until payment is completed.
To avoid disappointment, we strongly recommend completing your payment immediately after registering. Divisions are expected to fill quickly, and confirmed athletes will always have priority.

Belt Level Registration
Please register in your actual belt level.
Do not register in a higher belt division.
Athletes found competing outside their correct belt level may be moved or disqualified at the organizerβs discretion.

The goal is simple: submit your opponent to win.

Bracket Finals
If no athlete achieves a submission within the time limit, the referee and judges will decide the winner based on genuine and legitimate pursuit of submissions.
What Counts
What Does Not Count
Passivity Rule
If an athlete remains passive in a dominant position without actively attacking, the referee may stand both competitors up and restart the action.
Equal Aggression
The referee will favor the athlete who is clearly attacking more.
If both competitors are equally active and aggressive, an additional 2-minute overtime period will be added.
AGI rewards the athlete who genuinely hunts the finish!
Amsterdam Grappling Invitational (AGI) operates under its own submission-only ruleset, designed to promote active, offensive grappling while maintaining athlete safety.
