Adults (18+ years) - Beginners through AdvancedInternational Athletes are welcome and encouraged!
U.S. Competitors must be registered with USSF
Mens
- Lightweight: under 85kg (under 187 lbs)
- Middleweight: under 100 kg (under 220 lbs)
- Light Heavy: under 115 kg (under 254 lbs)
- Heavyweight: above 115 kg (above 254 lbs)
- Beginner Openweight: All weights, For competitors who have been doing sumo less than a year. Beginners can still register for Advanced Openweight as well.
- Advanced Openweight: All weights, All Willing CompetitorsCompetitors are allowed and encouraged to sign up for multiple divisions. For example: multiple weight classes and/or openweight divisions.
It's best to list your club during registration to lower the chances of club members competing against each other. Your club coach can create a club account on Smoothcomp for ease of selection.

All Competitors in limited weight classes must weigh in before 9:30am AND be present at the Competitor Briefing at 9:30am on Saturday May 30th, 2026. Competitors not present, will NOT be able to compete. Weigh-ins will be allowed on Friday and Saturday. Up to a 5 pound allowance may be made with other competitors approval.Competitors in the Heavyweight and Openweight Divisions are not required to weigh-in.
Start Time Details
May 29th: 1:00pm - Setup and Demonstrations
4:00pm - 6:00pm - Rules Explanation and Competitor Practice
May 30th: 10:00am - Tournament Begins
Competitor names will be called. If a competitor does not show their bout will be moved to the end of the round, and called again. If they fail to show at the end of the round they will be marked as a loss and the bracket will advance.
Attire
Mawashi/Belt is required
May opt for a wrestling singlet, short sleeve rash guard, and/or tight shorts without pockets
Spectators
The Salt City Sumo Slam is a part of FITCON.
Competitors and Coaches are allowed free entry
