Description
Gi and No-Gi Open Jiu Jitsu Competition
The Newfoundland and Labrador Jiu Jitsu Championships will feature both gi and no-gi divisions for athletes born in 2012 or earlier, and gi divisions for kids born 2013 or later. We will be using IBJJF rules. Kids division winners will receive a youth title belt and Teen and Adult division winners will receive a championship title belt. Second and third place athletes will receive a medal.
All competitors will receive a tournament t-shirt so don't forget to add your size when you register!
Please note that we require 4 competitors per division. If there are not 4 competitors in your division we will combine close divisions to get the required number of participants for double elimination. In the case that there are no close divisions to be combined we may cancel the division or allow a round robin.
*Please note athletes will be given a weigh in time after the draw has been done.
There is a $5 spectator fee to be paid at the door, cash only. We will be live streaming the teen and older divisions on YouTube - look for the link in your email!
WEIGH INS
There will be half a Kilogram grace, but if an athlete weighs more than half a Kilogram over, they will be moved to the appropriate division, or disqualified if the appropriate division has already started. We do not encourage athletes to cut weight. Please register for the division of your actual weight to avoid being disqualified at the event. THIS IS FOR ATHLETE SAFETY! **For anyone unfamiliar with weight classes, the divisions are listed as "under" and "over" weights. For example, if you are 84kg you register for the -88.3kg division NOT the -82.3kg division, even though you are closer in weight to the latter. We have looked through registrations and there are many athletes, particularly children, whose "actual weight" listed is significantly different from the weight class in which they are registered. Please take the time to weigh yourself (or your kids) now and make sure the proper division has been selected. If you need help, you can call 709-738-8109 or email info@michaelfoley.ca
