WHAT MAKES THIS EVENT DIFFERENT?
Our mission and vision involves providing students with more opportunities to perform, learn and develop. In order to do this they need to have more chances to compete. For this reason, we most of our events as a "Round Robin" or "Double Elimination". This is what that means:
ROUND ROBIN DIVISIONS
If a division of competitors has 3 or 4 competitors, we will have them compete in a "Round Robin" style. This means that each competitor will compete against each person in the division; regardless whether they won their first match or not.
In a round robin we keep track of the number of votes in each match as they become important as there are often ties between competitors when the win/loss records are the same. Then the winners are determined by overall judge votes (how many judges voted for you throughout each match).
DOUBLE ELIMINATIONS
When a division of competitors are 5 people or more, we will run the division as a "double elimination" bracket. This means you are guaranteed at least 2 matches (you are out when you lose two times).
The nice part of a double elimination tree is that if you lose in the first round, you still have the opportunity to come back and win 3rd place (bronze medal).
AWARDS
Our tournament will have medals for competitors who place 1st, 2nd or 3rd. For each division 11 years of age and lower, we will have 2-bronze medals and all Little Warriors who complete the obstacle course will win a medal (like all athletes who complete a marathon win a medal - regardless of the placing).
