After a year and a half I re started my training. Bill Scott BJJ Shore Academy is phenomenal. As a long life athlete I realized how great and on point the intensity of training is in the academy. Almost every athlete that I trained with taught me a lesson and those that were most advanced genuinely wanted to help you get better as opposed to other gyms. Great culture.

Went Saturday morning and had a great session. Large, organized group that was very helpful to a white belt learning the ropes of BJJ. Bill personally introduced himself to me to welcome me to the gym. Would highly recommend this place for all levels of the sport.

We had our son's 5th birthday party here after going to one of his friends' birthday party because Wayne loved it so much. He loved it just as much if not more for his own. I was very nervous to throw him a party because he doesn't normally love attention but Micaela rolled out the red carpet and made it an absolutely unforgettable experience. She decorated, took pictures, ordered and picked up the pizza and it was ALL included. You cannot beat this place for your kid's birthday party. Thank you so much !!

I highly recommend BJJ Shore Academy. As a complete BJJ beginner, Professor Bill and Coach Micaela have been making me feel welcome and comfortable from the moment I walked in. Bill gives all the students individual attention and guidance, along with the other black belts in the gym. All the training partners have been really supportive. The energy in the room is amazing and everyone is friendly. There's a reason this academy has 300 five star reviews :).

Bill Scott's has been an awesome jitz gym for the eight years I have floated in and out of it. They have plenty of black belts, competitive and friendly rolls, and a great culture. Bill is a great place to start BJJ or to return to it after many years.

As a complete beginner to BJJ, I have to say, Bill's Academy is top-notch. I was driving an hour after work every day just to make it to class, and it was absolutely worth it. The instructors are fantastic—knowledgeable, patient, and they explain techniques in a way that makes sense. One of the best things about this place is how they rotate in different black belts instructors from around the state and country, so you're constantly exposed to new perspectives and learning opportunities. Bill himself is very committed to each student’s progress. He’s careful about pairing you with the right training partners, whether it’s experienced instructors or skilled higher belts, ensuring you get the guidance you need. What I really appreciate is that Bill is particular about promotions; you only move up when he’s confident you've earned it. If you’re serious about learning BJJ and want to be part of a great community, this is the place to be.

When I’m down the shore, Bill Scott’s academy is my training home away from home. My brother in law moved less than a mile away (he doesn’t train jiu jitsu, yet,) so I’ve had the good fortune of training several times at Bill’s academy. The space is super clean, the managers and instructors are very friendly, the level of jiu jitsu is excellent, and of course Bill is the heart of the amazing culture. If you’re anywhere near the area, I highly recommend training at the academy. The positive experience you will have at Bill’s is second to none. Thanks again!

I stopped in while on vacation. I emailed ahead and was met at the door with a friendly welcome by an instructor. He then introduced me to Bill Scott. Bill was equally as friendly. We talked a bit then he helped me with training partners through out my session. I m dealing with an injury and each time he made sure they were aware of it. The room had a good mix of belts but a lot of experienced upper belts who were all just as friendly asking me where I was from and where I usually train. If you live in then area this is a great place to learn. All the upper belts were technically sound with their jujitsu and very helpful to the lower belts. If you are in the area visiting it’s a great place to train they are very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend to anyone looking to learn jujitsu.

Visited gym with friend, and I must write to the quality of this gym. Not only is it administered professionally, but the staff treat you very warmly. The instructors are obviously well versed and qualified, but what really makes them stand out is how well they treat you. They understand that you have absolutely no idea what you're doing, and then explain technique as calmly and precisely as humanly possible.

I was down in Belmar vacationing and out of the number of schools down here, this one caught my eye and i decided to roll through on a Thursday morning. I checked out the 9AM HIIT class with Coach Micaela first to loosen up. She had a solid workout lined up and was welcoming, instructive, and pushed everyone in the class. Great energy! The 10AM class had a big turnout and the instructor was insanely attentive and thorough in explaining technique. He came by to offer ways to improve the technique and drilling I was doing with my partner. Every person I rolled with was respectful as hell, upper level belts took the time to discuss technique and work positionals with me, and the owner, Professor Bill Scott, was invested in making sure I had a great experience. Top notch place with deep community roots. I wish I could come train here more often but I will definitely be back every time I'm in the area!

We did a drop-in at Shore Academy while we were vacationing in PPB and had a great experience. Micaela who handles the “front office” responsibilities was so warm and welcoming. She interacted with every member who walked through the door, including us. Bill was a knowledgeable instructor who gave kudos to all of the students while they were training, and even took the time to show my son a new sweep that he wasn’t familiar with, even though we were just visitors. ***Beach vibes meets Technical Jiu-jitsu*** Think of this dojo as the perfect combination of laid back beach vibes coupled with technically impressive and tough BJJ populated with very nice and friendly people. I stopped by to train as I was in the area. From the first e-mail interaction to my last handshake when leaving the mats, everyone could not have been more hospitable or nicer. There is none of the more rigid dogma that some places insist on; this place feels more like what the original BJJ schools were - solid training with people who just want to share and get better. I was also very impressed with how many senior belts and black belts were on the mat and how friendly everyone was. I was the new guy at an open mat and everyone was technical and controlled; no one was trying to take off my head or submit me at all costs...something I've experienced too often at other gyms. If you are looking for a great place to train with some awesome people this is the spot, I know I will be back!

Update 2021- I trained at Bill Scotts during the summer of 2021. He has an excellent facility and fosters a sense of community. By the end of my first day there, I felt like I was part of the crew. Bills instruction is excellent. He often circles the mats and provides pointers to students during rolls. I was also impressed by one of his Blackbeltd, Clay. Clay taught a shirt series in attacking the turtle. Like Bill, Clay was attentive to the students and provided support when necessary. Bill Scotts is a warm welcoming environment that I would recommend to anyone. I trained at Bill Scott BJJ during the summer of 2018. As someone who works and lives in the city, I was hoping to find a place with a flexible schedule. They offered me an awesome deal. I attended both morning and night classes. Both classes had plenty of supportive, friendly, and helpful people . Coach Bill and his wife are both wonderful. I was initially intending to just attend no gi classes, but coach Bill comvinced me to try the Gi and I am happy he did. The greatest thing about the gym is that there are so many students who are willing to help you. I highly recommend this place to anyone in the shore area. I would also recommend this place to people like myself who are only in town during the summer

I am a white belt and I loved training here. I was on vacation at the shore and visited the gym for class on Saturday and Sunday. These days consist of mostly 7min rounds of free rolling. Bill was happy to talk to me and was very welcoming. He was very attentive and made sure I got a partner at the start of every free roll. I was able to roll with multiple people of every belt color. Everyone I rolled with was very respectful and friendly. I also felt very safe with everyone I rolled with. Most people gave me tips and some even taught me full techniques. The people really make a gym and if I was local I'd train here full time without hesitation. Hope to see you all again soon. Thanks, Chris

I was in town for the holidays and needed a place to train. I came across Bill Scott BJJ, boy was I impressed. Top to bottom this is a first class academy. I was taken back by the amount of experience in the class and how everyone was willing to help. They train hard in the classes, but more importantly they train safe. Members in the classes are in control and are not cranking and trying to injure each other. In the class I attended there was a good amount of white belts, blue belts, purple belts, brown belts, and black belts; this is the sign of a very healthy and well structured academy. Thanks Bill Scott BJJ!

I was in town on a family vacation and looking for a place to workout. I found BJJ Shore Academy online and stopped in to meet Professor Bill Scott in person. After only a few minutes of talking, he invited me in to train the following morning with his class. I have a little bit of training but never with a Gi (this was a Gi class). The class had a range on students from all levels and allowed everyone to get work in while helping each other improve at the same time. Professor Scott and all of the students in his class were very welcoming. While rolling with students from entry level white belts, blue belts, purple belts and even a black belt I felt as if everyone there was more interested in helping me to improve than making me submit. This was a great class that flowed very smoothly from start to finish. It was both challenging and fun. I will definitely be coming back next time I am in town. Great experience that only made me eager to continue to get better. Thank you Professor Scott

Can't say enough good things about this school. Professor Bill's class has been a great confidence booster for my 6 year old daughter, and I really like that stripes and belt promotions have to be earned through hard work, regular attendance, and good behavior (not just given out after a set period of time.) It has taught my daughter discipline and the value of perseverance. Prof.Bill is tough, but very encouraging - you can tell that all the kids really listen to him and respect him. Highly recommend!

I travel enough to have trained lots of places and I feel like I have a pretty good feel for what good looks like and Bill's place is great. The instructor's are excellent and I don't think I've ever had a trip where I didn't feel like I picked up something that would help me. I got to experience Bill Scott's BJJ academy as a visitor from NYC, getting in some training while enjoying some time at the shore. My experience began with an email exchange in which I asked about the academy's visitor policy. I was welcomed with a prompt and friendly response from the program director, Micaela. She again greeted me with a welcoming smile when I arrived at the school. This made me feel right at home. Class was rigorous and intense. Professor Bill is clearly knowledgeable and skilled. Although the class was full, he took the time to give each student attention while we drilled. There were also numerous high ranking students in the class who were helpful. In addition to a great staff, the students at the academy were welcoming and a pleasure to work with. This is a true testament to an excellent training environment. In the area, you'll have several choices for martial arts training, as I did when I was looking for a place to train during my trip. I'm glad I ended up going to Bill Scott BJJ. I'll be recommending it to anyone who comes to the area to train.

I was a visiting student to Shore BJJ Academy yesterday and attended the Adult BJJ class from 6:30-8pm. The class was attended by 25-30 students of all ranks: No Stripe White Belts all the way through 1st Degree Black Belts. The Class was Instructed by owner, 3rd Degree Black Belt Bill Scott. I had the opportunity to receive personal instruction from Professor Bill Scott as well as multiple other Black Belts. Additionally, I trained with experience levels of all varying degrees. Everyone was courteous, friendly and provided great feedback and tips for improvements on my techniques. The rounds lasted anywhere from 2 minutes to 7 minutes! I was thoroughly exhausted by the end of the class. I walked out of there with a great experience, great feedback, and the yearning to continue my training with such classy people. The environment that Professor Bill Scott created was comfortable, relaxed and welcoming with little to no stress for a visiting/ new student. The facility is an open floor plan with virtually 100% visibility to all corners of the mat and has good air circulation when the doors are open, creating a comfortable cross breeze for those hot/ sweaty matches. I strongly recommend training at this location for any skill/ experience level. The knowledge base of Professor Bill Scott, his Black Belt Instructors, and senior level students is unparalleled.

I discovered BJJ Shore Academy when I attended a Self Defense seminar/training given by head instructor, Bill Scott. During this seminar I learned of their little champs program, as I had been searching for an instructional gym to engage my twin boys. Professor Bill, and all of his coaching staff are truly exceptional in their knowledge, experience and interaction with students. My sons have been training with Bill for roughly two years, and I myself train in Kickboxing. I love that classes include those with varying levels of experience and backgrounds, providing the perfect environment for learning with support from coaches. It is certainly a family friendly establishment, many families have several members that all train here. It is by far the best decision I have made for my sons and myself. **They also do terrific birthday parties, I had my sons birthday here last year, wonderful time had by all! I highly recommend BJJ Shore Academy....By far the best training/instructors/classes around!

I had the opportunity to train at Bill's gym when I was in the area visiting a relative at the hospital. I looked up local BJJ academies and found BJJ Shore Academy and stopped in for a Gi class and had a great training session. They were very understanding of the fact that I was from out of town and just looking for people to roll with. Multiple black belts were there along with Bill and they were all extremely helpful and supportive in assisting everyone with the techniques we were drilling. Topped it off with a long rotating live session from half guard using the techniques we practiced during class. Great staff and great group of people. Highly recommended.

I've had a wonderful experience training here as a beginner. The folks who train here are very focused and highly skilled. An impressive ratio of higher belts to white belts offers beginners the opportunity to learn technique correctly and to build the right muscle memory from the beginning. My technique is coming together and I am able to retain what I learn thanks to the structure of my training and patient instructors. Though BJJ is physically rigorous, I don't worry about getting needlessly injured because Bill and his team are so experienced at teaching and class is well-run.

I came to Bill Scott's BJJ Shore Academy on a invitation from a good friend. Although I have only visited the Academy a couple of times now. I'm always looking forward to my next visit. Everyone at the Academy is very friendly and welcoming. There are many students of different ranks, which is great to test your own skill level. One special thing that stood out to me is that they have quite a few black belts. Where in most BJJ schools you usually only see one. The good thing about training under such guidance is that you can be sure that the lessons and skills you'll acquire will be precise. If you are worry about cleanliness, well don't. The Academy is always kept VERY clean and organized from the mats and beyond. I sincerely cannot wait to train with these guys again. Already looking forward to my next visit.

From beginner to advanced techniques, Bill and his instructors cover it all. In a competitive, yet friendly and relaxed, environment, Bill is always there for his students and treats them all, white belt to black belt, the same. When I first started training there, many students introduced themselves to me and made me feel very welcomed. In a typical class, it’s very common to see multiple brown and black belts helping the lower belts, answering questions, etc. Additionally, the talent and BJJ skill level in the room are unmatched. Matches with some blue belts are just as intense and competitive as with the higher belts. As an old-timer with over fourteen years of BJJ experience, and training at billy’s school for just a short time, I know my game has improved significantly. For this reason and many others, I highly recommend BJJ Shore Academy!

I love Shore Academy! Bill and Micaela do a great job of welcoming every individual that walks in that door. Bill is a great instructor and is always pushing you to be better and stronger. He has a great eye for detail and takes a personal interest in every student, no matter how big or small the room is. It is a great room to roll in, with tons of experience. AWESOME SCHOOL!

While visiting the Jersey Shore I had an opportunity to train at Bill Scott BJJ. Bill welcomed me to train and made me feel comfortable to visit while in town. Great technical instruction, an excellent workout and a good group of people. I attended two classes and both were excellent! Very happy I was able to train at Bill Scott BJJ and hope to get back in the near future.

Professor Bill was kind enough to allow me to train multiple days at Shore Academy with himself and his team while I was up visiting family. I have traveled a quite a bit and trained in many different gyms around the country and I will say that Bill Scott BJJ is one of the better gyms I have been to. The class was very detailed oriented and all his student rolled very well and showed great technique. I would highly recommend BJJ Shore Academy to anyone whether they want to get in shape or wish to compete at the highest level.

I've trained all over the world and have to say that BJJ Shore Academy is the best school I've ever been apart of. The school has everything you are looking for. Their BJJ is top notch, with almost 10 black belts now they high level instruction for ever class. The students, at all levels, are great and always willing to give you a good roll not to mention help when needed. My game increased 10x while training there. Besides BJJ the academy also offers a variety of other classes from kickboxing to yoga, there is something for everybody. You will be in the best shape of your life if you train here. If all the great training wasn't enough to get you interested also have to mention the family atmosphere you get here. Everyone is extremely friendly and accommodating. I've been lucky enough to become friends with some amazing people all that to BJJ Shore Academy. Do yourself a favor and sign up now!
