My kid has been here for a while, she has learned so much in movements and in style and she absolutely loves it! She even won on a competition so far! I am very happy with the community here and the teachers are very knowledgeable and supportive! I would definitely recommend this place!

What an amazing BJJ school! Such a GREAT group of coaches and family atmosphere. Our two kids get so much from this school; confidence, exercise, success after failure... so many life lessons! I definitely recommend Next Level Jiu Jitsu... heck they even offer your first class for FREE.

My entire family has the privilege of training at Next Level jiu jitsu. The kids program is really wonderful. The instructors are highly trained, are very positive and truly bring out the best in these kids. My 3 children really enjoy working with professor Ted, Coach Emily, Coach Kevin and Coach Jose. My husband and I are apart of the adult program. I just can't say enough as to how wonderful it is to train with these amazing instructors. Professor Ted and the coaches are very thorough, pay attention to detail, and truly bring out the best in us physically and mentally. I enjoy working with professor Ted, coach Gezilla, and coach Emily. Thank you Next Level.

I've been training at Next Level for a year and a half I can't say enough good things about this school and team. I come to NoGi classes so I train quite a bit under Professor Ted and Coach Jose. They both go over incredible details on both submissions and escapes. They both also maintain a safe and fun environment while training. My skills have grown tremendously! I also continue to lose weight because of the exercise factor (I'm 42) and I do it all while having absolute fun. I also come in to "Open Mat" Friday afternoons to train with and learn from Coach Gezilla. She continues to offer help with moves we covered earlier during the week and she does it all while being the sweetest person. I've competed in a few tournaments since joining and I highly recommend others to not only train at Next Level, but also to compete with the team. The camaraderie is 2nd to none.

Professor Ted is an incredible instructor with a rich history of competition and accolades. With many contributions in the jiu jitsu community. He has an amazing program for kids, ranging from 4 year olds all the way to young teens and a comprehensive Adults jiu jitsu program. Professor Ted also holds jiu jitsu camps several times a year which is great for sharpening aspiring competitors or even casual practitioners. If you are in the Richmond / Katy / Fulshar area, I would suggest you come try a class at Next Level Jiu Jitsu!

Great environment for the whole family to learn BJJ especially the kids. We have all 3 of ours in class at least twice a week. They are ages 5, 6 and 10. My oldest was competing and winning about 9 months after starting.

Great instructors, great facility, great prices for the number of classes you get! My 6 and 5 year old enjoyed it and learned a lot. The instructors are great with kids. They provide a great balance between structure, discipline, and playfulness/fun. We only stopped going because we moved out of Katy.

My son was being bullied, lacked confidence and was also very shy. After being punched in the face during his bus ride we bad enough and decided to try NLJJ which had come highly recommended. He was mad and did not want to go but the (shy) embarrassment of walking off the mat beat him and he made it through the first half of his trial class. During water break he walked off the mat and said “I LOVE IT!” got back on the mat excited and the rest is history! As parents we want to teach our kids to be good individuals, fair, confident and to always try new things. Fast forward 6 months… our son has earned two belt stripes, moved up class level before he hit the required age, most importantly, his confidence is up! He may still be shy and that may not change and it’s ok because he is confident enough to challenge himself and expect more which helps him be better all around! His coordination has improved and he doesn’t let others bully him or anyone else, instead he invites everyone to play together, tells others they should not leave anyone out and if someone still isn’t nice he just stays away. School grades also improved and he maintained honor roll, received a reading award and is praised constantly by his teacher. He has also been so much better at home, encouraging his little sister, helping mom and just being the sweetest kid ever! We have to thank Next Level JiuJitsu’s Professor and Coaches for the incredible transformation! Our son has always been a great boy but now we have seen him grow in so many ways and just love to watch how much he enjoys JiuJitsu. We are proud of him and forever grateful to NLJJ for helping our son learn to be proud of himself too.

What started as a a trial class for my son has turned into a family of five all training here! We absolutely love our Jiu Jitsu family at Next Level Jiu Jitsu. Professor Ted is an amazing teacher, and has the right balance of structure and discipline and fun! Our kids have become more confident, and we are all in much better shape, Jiu Jitsu is the ultimate year round conditioning program, whatever sports my kids do outside of Jiu Jitsu they excel at now. We have been here since 2017 and wouldn’t dream of leaving.

I had never done any type of martial arts in my life but after listening to a podcast I decided I would give BJJ a try. I checked out a few different jujitsu places in the area but decided to try this one because the schedule worked better for my family. That was around 11 months ago now, and I have been coming back about 5 days a week since then. I really had no idea how amazing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is. Professor Ted and the people at this school are so friendly and caring. But they are also extremely knowledgeable and motivated to improve and to help others improve. I never walk out of here without feeling like I learned something. Give it a try and if you are like me you will wish you had started 10 years ago.

Professor Ted and the Next Level team are an outstanding group of folks to know and train with. Professor Ted treats his students like family and truly strives to pass along his knowledge to his students. You're always greeted with a smile when you come in, and every training session leaves you exhausted. The atmosphere is inviting, and the passion for the art is clearly displayed by the team. Great place to start if you or your kids are looking to get into Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Check them out! Side note...Coach Jose runs a fun Sunday morning open mat for those weekend sessions! ;)

Professor Ted is a wealth of knowledge and technique. I learned so much both about jiu jitsu techniques and lifestyle. He is also a positive role model for my daughter whom I enrolled into next level jiu jitsu as well. She is being taught more than just jiu jitsu. She is learning essential life skills as well. We have tried numerous academies and dojos but what made us stick to next level was the perfect balance of the family and competition atmosphere. There's a little something for everyone. She loves it, I love it, our whole family loves it.

My kids have been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with Professor Ted Strikel for several years now. My son and daughter stated with him when the were 3 & 5 in a kids class and are now training with him at 7 & 9. It is evident that he loves what he does by his patience, passion and care he has for all his students. I recently started the adults class at 42 to lose weight and get more active. To add to the experience the members are like family. We have built good friendships here and in the Jiu Jitsu community. It has been challenging, humbling, and most of all it's fun! I would recommend Next Level Jiu Jitsu to any one looking to help teach kids life lessons, exercise, and learn a valuable skill. All adults too!

A wonderful place, everyone is welcoming no matter your skill level. Professor Ted pushes you to your highest potential and teaches you the in and outs of Brazilian Jui Jistsu and self defense all in one class, very practical. A wonderful healthy addition to my daily routine.

I just joined this Dojo and I really like coming to learn here with professor Ted and the other coaches. The people are super friendly to new people like me and there are a few guys that can really roll hard with you if you want. Come for a free class and see if you like it. That is what I did. They even let me borrow a GI for the free class.

If you’re looking for a safe environment to practice jiujitsu and learn effective self defense, look no further!! Professor Ted along with the students of his academy have created a warm welcoming space for those who want to learn. Being a part of this community has improved, not only my physical health, but also my mental toughness as well. I’m very fortunate and thankful to be a part of Next Level Jiujitsu. Sign up for a trial class today and see what the academy is all about!

I train near Baton Rouge, Louisiana but I train consistently and for competition at Casillas BJJ. I came into town to visit my wife’s family and I randomly selected this school to come and train a couple times. I contacted Professor Stickel and he told me to come by. Not only did I get quality instruction, great roles, but he stayed and chatted with me just to find out about me as a person. When I inevitability come back to Katy, I will come by again. He didn’t charge me, he stated he was happy to give his students a new test.

My 17 year old daughter wanted to explore a self defense art and we decided to do it together. I felt like just a few self defense classes wouldn’t prepare her as much as learning a method over a longer expanse of time. I’m 45 (female) and neither of us have had any experience in Jui Jitsu or martial arts or ANY training remotely similar...meaning we walked in with no skills. Next Level was recommended from friends who had younger students in the program with positive experiences. I can vouch as a newbie, Professor Ted and his coaches are not only knowledgeable and precise, but able to coach and teach at any level. I am clumsy and inconsistent, but learning Juijitsu under professor Ted Stickle and his coaches has been fun and encouraging. Every time I show up I’m reminded I don’t have to be perfect to learn something new, it’s all a process. It’s been a fun art to learn!!! Highly recommend.

My sons teacher called my husband and I in for a conference, our boys grades were starting the 3rd grade roller coaster. We went to the pediatrician and he was diagnosed inattentive ADHD. My husband and I were looking for alternatives to medication and decided to give BJJ a try. We started BJJ in February. My husband and I noticed the boy loved it and was good! He wanted to attend spring break camp, so we signed him up. Not only did his skill improve, but his confidence skyrocketed. He felt so good about himself. Two weeks after spring break, our sons teacher called us back in for another conference. The work she showed us looked like a completely different child's assignments. Even his handwriting improved. It was AWESOME!! I love knowing we found a way to help our boy gain strategies to help him become more focused, want to be better than he was the day before, and to continue pushing for excellence with all aspects of his life. I truly feel Next Level BJJ family and Professor Ted is owed the credit! Thank you for making our family run more smoothly!

Professor Ted is an amazing coach and teacher. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a complicated self defense martial art and professor Ted breaks each move down and seamlessly integrates it into the next technique. His style of teaching makes BJJ exciting and easy to learn. Fantastic facility, clean mats and a great group of people to train with. Highly recommended!

I spent several years training in a different martial art, and have learned first hand the difference between poor instructors, average instructors and great instructors. Great instructors coach for the love of the discipline and to contribute to the growth, development, safety and values of their students. Ted Stickel of Next Level Jiu Jitsu is a great instructor! He cares.

M. A,

Professor Ted has been teaching our children Jiu-Jitsu for 4 years. He taught them solid fundamentals and now continues to add many advanced techniques. He teaches a holistic Jiu-Jitsu lifestyle that goes way beyond the mat and spans into areas of self-confidence, self-disciple, individual accountability, leadership and many other core values (often forgotten by others) essential for success in life. His teaching methods work! Our children are very successful in competitions and have won National and Pan American IBJJF Championships. Professor Ted has gone to nearly all of their tournaments on his own personal time to coach and give the kids extra confidence. Even after 4 years of continuous BJJ training with Professor Ted, they still beg us to go to class each night. We highly recommend Professor Ted and Next Level Jiu-Jitsu!

Great family place for beginners to advanced. Professor Ted is a third degree black belt in BJJ. He is amazing with children and he creates winners. I started jiu jitsu at 53 years old and love it. Never a dull moment. The added bonus is I have met some amazing people from all walks of life. The mats are clean, Professor is always on the mat and eager to teach. You can tell he loves what he does.

The A/C in that place does not work. Temperatures would get over 85F inside during summer, when they ran summer camp. Imagine training in that. They had the kids take the GI's off "to beat the heat". As if one can't get heat stroke without a GI. It still gets pretty toasty by 5pm in September, even though they open at lunch and have no classes between noon and 4pm. Their first answer: They can't afford to fix it. Their second answer: Not that they can't afford to fix it, they just don't. But of course they would book as many students as they can, causing building code violations and sacrificing quality of instruction. Since they overbook classes, there's never enough seats for parents on their horrible ribbed aluminum benches. Due to overbooking they don't pay nearly enough attention to the kids to develop their skills. They just issue new stripes and belts every two months, regardless of qualifications. That said, It seems that the coaches, especially the younger ones do work really hard and do care about kids.
