My son has been training with Master Alonzo for almost 3 years. He's come such a long way as a martial arts student and as a young man because of what he's learned from Master Alonzo. I continue to be impressed by the heart and dedication Master Alonzo has for his students and his true talent for working with children. As a former teacher, you can just tell when someone has that certain kind of magic that makes them a gifted educator. He has that magic, and the kids recognize it pretty much instantly. He's firm, but kind. He sets boundaries and makes them laugh. They listen to him, and he listens to them. I've also benefitted from the defense classes he hosts with Impact Personal Safety. As of a few months ago the dojang has moved to a new Culver City location and the dojang is better than ever! Master Alonzo has a lot of cool ideas for additional classes and training for the dojang, and I'm excited to see what's next!

I am thrilled to share my experience with Master Alonzo’s Taekwondo classes in Mar Vista! In just a couple of months, my toddler has blossomed under his guidance, gaining confidence and discipline. Master Alonzo has a unique ability to connect with kids, making every class filled with laughter and giggles. His teaching approach emphasizes the importance of enforcing boundaries and showing respect, which has been amazing for my son. It's incredible to see him excited about attending classes, as this is the first physical activity he truly looks forward to. Thank you, Master Alonzo, for your fantastic work and dedication to nurturing our little ones!

Excellent gym with focused, stern but patient instructors. Sensei Alonzo is an amazing role model for his young students and the Jujitsu coach is superb as well.

My 5-year old has been going here for about 2 months now, after having tried a couple other taekwondo dojangs. The classes have been great for developing her strength, coordination, and balance. And more importantly, she is having a blast. I think Master Alonzo is terrific with kids and would venture to say that's his strongest skill set and what set him apart from other instructors. His focus for kids at the 4-5 year old level is more about teaching kids to control their bodies and helping them develop their strength and agility. He also has an anti-bullying component that teaches social skills for avoiding fights, as well as basic blocks and a hip-throw if necessary. That said, I would say that fighting is not a focus of the class at the 4-5 age range. The membership also includes jiu jitsu classes on Friday with a separate instructor. The scheduling for that class is tricky for me so my kid has only gone once, but that class seemed to focus more on traditional BJJ fighting techniques.

Master Alonzo has a way of getting through to younger kids. They have fun while still learning discipline. His antibullying focus is great. My son actively uses these skills at home with his sister when she’s bothering him

Master Alonzo was fantastic! So great with my scared son who wouldn't leave my side at first, but by the end was laughing hysterically. Can't recommend enough!

It would be difficult to overstate how much we appreciate Master Alonzo and the work he does. I wish there were many more people of his talents and abilities out there, because I know there are thousands of kids all over L.A. who could get SO much out of attending classes here-- but there's only one Master Alonzo. It's not about the physical skills my kids are learning-- well, it is, those are important too-- but it's about so much more! The social and emotional learning my kids do here make this place a truly unique place, and we're just so glad to have found it. Master Alonzo is truly a gem.

I cannot recommend Master Alonzo's anti-bully camp enough. We are in LA for the summer and even though this was 3 hours of driving a day for me, it was totally worth it. He has a wonderful gift with children. He seemed to have a connection with every kid (funny / sweet nicknames, silly stories). He had fresh fruit and snacks for the kids every day (which I didn't expect). And they broke a wooden board at the end of the camp -- which was so empowering for the kids! If you are in LA, really consider taking a class or camp with him. I wish we could take classes during the year here but we will pbly take a drop in class every time we come to LA from now on.

Master Alonzo not only provides a fun and engaging class for kids. He plays a positive and empowering role in our daughter’s life. Classes there have improved her listening skills and her understanding of respect. Master Alonzo has also given her the tools to stand her ground and protect herself against bullies. As a parent, it’s really rewarding to see her excel in this class and share in the sense of pride our daughter feels each time she earns a new stripe on her belt. Thank you!

We have been coming here for a couple of months now and our daughter has really enjoyed it. Master Alonzo teaches the martial arts but with a very personal and humorous approach that has worked very well for all of the kids in the class. His lessons have already seen results in her physical and mental strength. We are thrilled to have found him!

Master Alonzo is a wonderful teacher and instructor. He is a hit with kids and does well with students of all ages, including adults. He adjusts his teaching methods based on the maturity of the students. And he is always trying to find ways to make things fun and engaging. Love this place He teaches Taekwondo with elements of Hapkido. For Antibullying he adds a few judo moves. For black belts, he also teaches Filipino weapon arts.

(Reviewer = Mother of 7.5-yr-old son now a purple belt under Master Alonzo and 5-yr-old daughter currently in WeeKick program with Master Alonzo) Incredibly valuable for the safety of your child! So much more than martial arts alone! We have been learning from Master Alonzo (camps and classes) since the summer of 2016 and have been continually impressed by (and grateful for) his outstanding instruction. His whole-child curriculum and implementation of it are both first-rate. Every exercise and activity is intelligently calculated for the desired result, which is children who are mindful, empathetic, strong, confident, respectful of themselves and others, prepared, skilled, and able to defend themselves and others verbally and physically against everything from verbal disrespect to unwanted touches, to violent assault. A thorough understanding of child development guides his age-appropriate instruction, and he leads the classes and camps in a fluid, engaging way that is both effective and entertaining. He's great at adjusting his tone on-the-fly as he "reads the room" and the result is optimal "classroom management." He has the kids squealing with laughter one moment and silently revering him the next, and matches his humor/seriousness balance and flow to the maturity and behavior of the students. Everyone loves him, respects him, has so much fun, and really learns! Best of all, it works. My son was physically and verbally/emotionally bullied for an entire school year (transitional kindergarten, age 4-5) before we met Master Alonzo. I brought him to Master Alonzo the following summer for camp and after that point my son was able to put a quick end to the bullying on his own without conflict because of his newfound confidence and ability to assert himself calmly and clearly in his own defense. I highly recommend Master Alonzo and his classes, camps, and after school programs! Master Alonzo is a top-notch professional who pours all of his expertise AND all of his heart into it!

I observe Master Alonzo' class at least 3 times a week when I bring my Grandson, 8, to class - he's in his second year. His sense of humor combined with discipline needed for marital art makes his teaching a joyful learning experience for his students. My Grandson has participated in several tournaments and received several awards, among them 3 Gold Medals.

My son (11 yrs old) has been practicing Tae Kwon Do with Master Alonzo at TriFit for a few years. He continues to thrive and love it, and has participated a a few tournaments and received awards. The group of kids that have come together for Master Alonzo's classes have formed a community -- they encourage and support each other at each class. Master Alonzo has a way of teaching that the kids are really drawn to. He's fun, very kind, and an excellent instructor -- all at once. I would be thrilled if my son continues down this path -- this Martial Arts program has really enhanced his life.
