I have been a wrestler my entire life. After re-locating to the area, I wanted to just find a gym to stay in shape and get back onto the mats after a good number of years. I can say that I have found more than just excercise at MGD. Rob & Kevin and the staff here have helped me regain a passion for grappling that I otherwise would have previously lost! I have began to enjoy bjj and will continue to train at this amazing gym. A 5 star review is an understatement to what Marcelo Garcia has given me. A refreshed love for grappling and growing love for Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu. Being on the mats is a part of my life that I have missed for a long time, and I am very grateful that this gym has given that back to me.

I flew into town for a family emergency and usually train with some friends over in Ft Worth, but I needed to stay close to the house. I searched Jiu-Jitsu on google maps and saw this place close by and decided to head over to see if I could drop in on their mid day class. Quick little sign in process, and I was ready to go. Great gym, and class with excellent instruction as well. Wide range of skill levels with 4 black belts on the mats for the mid day class. After some solid instruction, I rolled with most of the people there, including two of the black belts. Everyone there was a pleasure to train with, I never felt like anyone was trying to kill me or anything and was using technique to get submissions and not trying to muscle me around. I'm currently 51 year old blue belt with about 4 years and change training. If you are local and looking for a gym in the Dallas area, I'd seriously check this one out. I'm a fan of Marcelo Garcia, and this was my first time at one of his affiliate gyms. I feel like I have a new spot to go whenever I'm back in the area visiting family!

I recently started training at Marcelo Garcia Jiu-Jitsu of Dallas with no prior experience, and I have to say, it’s been an incredible journey so far. I did the 7-day trial and it was well worth it—I was hooked from day one! The staff is incredibly nice and welcoming, making me feel comfortable right away despite being a complete beginner. The instructors are very knowledgeable and take the time to break down each technique in a way that’s easy to understand. They’re always willing to answer questions and provide helpful feedback, which has really accelerated my learning process. After my trial, I didn’t hesitate to sign up for the monthly membership. If you’re looking for a great place to train and learn Jiu-Jitsu, I highly recommend Marcelo Garcia Jiu-Jitsu of Dallas. The positive environment and expert instruction make it a fantastic place for anyone at any skill level!

This is the paramount Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy in the Dallas metroplex. I’ve had the opportunity to train at this academy since it was located on Bryan street, and it is phenomenal. Physical prowess, instinctual intelligence, and a captivating community are assets you gain by training consistently here. On and off the mats your life will improve. Only great things can be said about about Rob and all of the great instructors here.

This is my favorite BJJ gym that I have ever trained at. The instructors are knowledgeable and super helpful. I lost the use of my left arm at 18 and the instructors are always willing to take extra time with me to find variations and alternative moves to accommodate my disability and that works with my game plan. The people are friendly and I have fantastic experiences with rolling. I attend the night NoGi classes and the upper belts are both plentiful and eager to help you out.

I am from Rochester, NY and was visiting the area for a few days. Wanted to find a good gym to go to for some training while here. M.G. Dallas was EXCELLENT. Owner was responsive and he and his students were welcoming and great to work with. This gym is the first recommendation I would give to someone wanting to learn jiu jitsu in Dallas. All of the students are kind, chill, and knowledgeable. Anybody will roll with or partner with you and will happily give you advice. What makes it different than other gyms I've trained at is that white belts and lower class students are looked after. Instead of white belt vs white belt every class, the upper belts roll with you and show you the way. Everybody here is approachable and come from many backgrounds. The gym is clean and crisp. What are you waiting for? Come roll with us!

The quality of instruction is nothing short of phenomenal. Rob and all of the coaches are highly skilled, fun to be around, and dedicated to helping students improve their techniques. They also emphasize the importance of training safely and taking care of your training partners every class which has been nice. What also sets this gym apart is the community of people who train here. From day one, I was welcomed with open arms by a group of friendly and passionate individuals that I look forward to seeing each day. Just moved to Dallas, but felt instantly at home here. Everyone at Marcelo Garcia Dallas is incredibly technical and willing to help you grow. Especially as a woman in jiu jitsu, having a safe, welcoming environment is essential, and that is exactly what I found here. There is something for everyone, from hobbyists to elite competitors, and regardless of your journey all of the coaches are willing to help. The instruction at this gym is unlike any other. Regardless if you are a white or black belt, Rob has an incredible way of teaching something new to upper belts without making it overly complicated for lower belts. I am honored to be a black belt under the guidance of Rob Ables at Marcelo Garcia of Dallas. Rob is undoubtedly one of the best best coaches ever, who creates a nurturing and caring learning environment for all of his students. His dedication and passion for the art are evident in every aspect of his gym. The training experience at Marcelo Garcia of Dallas is simply outstanding. From the moment you step into the gym, you can feel the positive energy and sense of community among the students. Rob puts 100% effort into his school and his students, ensuring that each class is a fantastic and enriching experience. If you are interested in learning this great art, I cannot recommend Marcelo Garcia of Dallas enough. The skills and knowledge you gain here are truly invaluable. Whether you're a beginner or an advanced practitioner, Marcelo's coaching will help you grow and improve in ways you never thought possible. Having relocated to the Plano area last year, it has been a bit challenging for me to get back to training, but I am determined to make it my goal. Until then, I continue to cherish the time spent at this exceptional gym. Thank you, Rob Ables, for being an extraordinary coach and creating such a welcoming and supportive learning environment. Your gym is truly a gem, and I eagerly look forward to returning for more fantastic training sessions!

Been a student here since 2018. It's hard to describe the positive impact that it has had on my life since the day I walked in the door. I was in my late 30's, in a new place in life, getting out of shape, and getting tired of all the usual distractions that life offers. Just needed something different. Something fun but a real challenge. Long story short, I took the chance and fell in love with Jiu Jitsu and never looked back. Rob Ables and all the MANY incredible teachers at the school continue to provide that challenge and so much more at this school. I consider everyone in the gym like a family. MG Dallas -Its clean -It’s safe -There are several classes per day, to accommodate just about anyone’s schedule -The Academy is open seven days per week -The students are extremely welcoming -It is beginner-friendly -Advanced students receive advanced instruction, and have community with other advanced students -There is structure, but no so much so that is squashes individuality. We have fun. They offer a free one-week trial. I took mine five years ago and have never looked back. It’s more than an Academy. It is a community of individuals from all walks of life, working together to walk out the door each day just a little better a person than they were when they walked in. -John

Why is this my BJJ gym for 10+ years? Two major reasons but the 2nd comes from the 1st. 1st: Head instructor Rob Ables. 2nd: The mellow and unique culture. I started training under Rob Ables prior to his opening this amazing gym. I then took a break from jiujitsu. However, even during my break, there was never a question where I’d come back. Rob is my Master Splinter, and he puts as much care and love into his his students as Splinter does his turtles. It’s an honor to be a black belt under Rob and I still go to him 1st with my black belt questions. “So he’s a highly talented communicator and technical jiujitsu practitioner… got it, sounds awesome.” It is, but the other thing that sets this gym apart is the culture that he has managed to cast and sustain. Marcelo Garcia Dallas BJJ manages to make you feel part of the team by the end of your first class. There’s a conspicuous absence of any aggressive energy or combative vibes, making this gym feel like an oasis in the desert of toxic martial arts gym cultures. It is in fact possible to learn controlled and effective martial arts without being a tool as it turns out folks! The energy at this gym has always been and remains worthy of the name of the notoriously warm and kind Marcelo Garcia himself. In closing, I honestly thought I wrote this review 10 years ago. Now, ten years later I can look back and say it’s only become more true. Here’s to ten more years under the teachings or Rob Ables at Marcelo Garcia Dallas!

Exceptional Instruction and a Jiu Jitsu Journey of a Lifetime! I have been training at Marcelo Garcia Dallas for almost 5 years now. The connection to Marcelo Garcia is what got me to walk through the doors, but the people there are what made it become my home. The instructors at MG Dallas are truly the heart and soul of the academy. Their depth of knowledge, expertise, and dedication to teaching is unparalleled. It's evident that they genuinely care about each student's progress and are committed to helping them grow, both on and off the mats. I would put Robs technical knowledge up against any instructor in the game today. Rob possess a remarkable ability to break down complex techniques into easily digestible concepts, making them accessible to students of all skill levels. He understands that everyone learns differently and takes the time to provide individualized guidance, ensuring that each student not only understands the technique, but the "why" behind the techniques. What truly sets MG apart is the supportive and inclusive environment it fosters. The instructors and fellow students are not only passionate about Jiu Jitsu but also about helping one another succeed. The vibe and sense of community are really what makes every training session an enjoyable experience. If you're looking for a Jiu Jitsu school with exceptional instruction, a supportive community, and a passion for personal growth, don't hesitate to join Marcelo Garcia Dallas. This is my first gym since starting BJJ and I am so happy to be a member here. Rob and all of his instructors are welcoming, down to earth, knowledgeable, and are always wanting to help you. They have created a very healthy gym culture which is unfortunately not all so common with MMA/BJJ gyms. Everyone here is super friendly, respectful, and trains with respect. I've been a member for about 6 months and have brought many of my friends, all of which have complemented the friendly coaches, fun classes, and cleanliness of the gym. Unfortunately I'm leaving the Dallas area in a few months and I'm sad that I will be leaving this gym. If my next gym is half as awesome as this one I'll be happy! First time rolling/doing jiu jitsu, I’m 37. The instructor/coaches/professors are great. Taken classes with Rob, Kevin, and the 6am crew with Christian. Most all the other students will help me out while rolling. I’m getting my kids involved too. They have lots of no-gi , gi and kids classes at various times to fit your schedule. If you're looking for a top-notch gym to train in jiu-jitsu, look no further than this place. My husband was initially drawn to this gym because the owner, Rob, trained under Marcelo Garcia, and we've both been training here ever since. I was particularly impressed after taking some private lessons with an outstanding instructor, Minah. I then began attending the Women's Class on Saturday mornings and quickly became hooked. To further support our training, we've also started attending the Sunday morning restorative yoga class, which helps us prepare for the week ahead and our next roll on the mat. The gym is filled with a diverse group of students, from hobbyists to competitors, all of whom train hard and help each other improve their jiu-jitsu skills. It's a supportive environment, with students pushing each other to reach their full potential. Overall, this gym is the perfect place for anyone looking to learn and train in jiu-jitsu. The exceptional instructors and supportive community of students make it an ideal setting for both hobbyists and competitors alike. Whether you're just starting out or have been training for years, you'll find the support and challenge you need to advance your jiu-jitsu game at this gym.

Amazing gym with instructors that care about you and students that welcome new students with open arms. There is a huge daily emphasis on safety, health, and hygiene - that is their #1 priority. The head instructor (Rob Ables) is a Black Belt under the infamous Marcelo Garcia (Considered to be the Greatest Of All Time) so, the technique is top notch - for gi and no-gi. Anyone from a new student with zero martial art experience to a seasoned competitor can find their place here. Highly recommend.

The average police response time to an emergency nationwide is 5.46 minutes. House alarms work but only if someone hears them, and decides to intervene to help you. Guns are effective, but only when you have them in hand. You are your first line of defense, - so if want to protect, defend and keep the ones you loves safe at all times, then train Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. And not just anywhere, - but at Marcelo Garcia Jiu-Jitsu of Dallas. The owner and lead teacher is Professor Rob Ables, he's a 4th degree black belt under the world's arguably best ever at Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, Marcelo Garcia, - so learn from the best and under someone of his lineage. Intro : I have been part of many gyms throughout years of Jiu Jitsu training. I have trained under Rafael Formiga from Soul Fighters in Danbury, CT. Roberto Abreu "Cyborg" from Fight Sports in Miami, FL. Steve Ficca from Odin's in Las Vegas, NV And eventually I moved to Dallas and joined Marcelo Garcia. Teaching ( a bit about the Instructors) : Rob Ables: After getting a free lesson under Rob Ables, I decided to sign up immediately. I did not need to visit other gyms. The way he teaches is definitely incredible and refreshing to see. He is a true master. He cares about the students and will make sure to show you variations based on your age, body type, limitations, etc. He understands not every student is the same. Not all of us have the same goals in life. I have met many gym owners who usually are great competitors, but lack in the teaching department. Rob Ables is a master, a teacher, a coach. He has taught me many valuable lessons, and often times they were just slight modifications to things I was doing that made a world of difference. I have never seen a more selfless coach, he has never turned me down or any other student when we ask him to show us something after class is over. Not only him but the other coaches there are absolutely amazing. Dan Butterfield is also a treasure filled with wisdom. Inside and outside of the mats, he's compassionate, wise and extremely good at the gentle. art of Jiu Jitsu. He's a father figure to many. He's always glad to help and assist students. Kevin : he's a new coach that started teaching just before I moved away from Dallas , but his classes are absolutely fun and he has no ego. He will spar with lower belts and let us test ourselves. Being that he's very competent at Jiu-Jitsu, it's great to have someone at his level allow us to practice. School Philosophy: The Marcelo Garcia philosophy is basically to rely on technique above all else. We are taught to maintain our competence, respect and integrity once we step away from the mats as well. Training Partners: They are absolutely great. I have never had issues with anyone that had been coming to the school for a while. All my partners were respectful, took great care of me, had great awareness and are not "out to get you", they quickly became true friends. It was pretty comforting to find such a great school with really down to earth, respectful partners. They also have a plethora of seasoned competitors that will definitely push you if you so choose, it's definitely good to push yourself against the very high skilled active competitors here. I always learned something new every time I rolled with them. Conclusion : This is as 5 stars of a Jiu Jitsu school as it gets. Everything about the school is great and I'm very thankful to having been a part of this academy for roughly 2 years. I dearly miss it and have no doubts anyone who cares about good jiu Jitsu will love it here.

What will your jiu-jitsu look like? Marcelo Garcia Jiu-Jitsu of Dallas is a special kind of place. Sure, it has the right pedigree --owner and lead instructor Rob Ables is a third degree black under BJJ Hall of Famer Marcelo Garcia. Rob's teaching is without peer and he has taught world champions. Your jiu-jitsu can be world class here too if you want that. But for me it's the vibe. Rob (and Kevin) really care about gym culture, and safety, and having fun, and being good to each other all within the practice of this amazing martial art. They don't do it for their glory, it's all about *your* jiu-jitsu. I started as a 46 year old, I've been a member for 7 years and love Marcelo Garcia Jiu-Jitsu of Dallas.

I love coming to this gym. I’ve been attending for over 6 months, and I’m planning on attending for years to come. Both the instructors and students create such a fun environment that I feel like a part of a community. There are classes that are beginner friendly and classes that cover more advanced topics, so all students can get the instruction they need. Highly recommend this gym.

Great people, and amazing instruction from Professor Rob Ables. The new gym is amazing- great atmosphere, always clean. There is a great balance between both Gi and NoGi training, as well as balancing training to improve at Jiu Jitsu for health/self defense/personal development vs. competition focused training. Whatever your age, goal, etc it is supported at MGD. There are a lot of Jiu Jitsu gyms in Dallas, but Marcelo Garcia Dallas is one of the best anywhere.

Marcelo Garcia Dallas is my favorite thing about Dallas. The community here is incredible--great competitors who work hard but are also chill, kind, and care about helping each other learn. The culture comes from great instructors and filters down to the lowest belt. I'm proud to represent this gym at tournaments and happy to spend hours each week training.

I visited the gym today and had a wonderful experience. The instructors were knowledgeable and patient, also the gym is impeccable clean. The instructor taught some great Marcelo Garcia secret moves, you need to check this place out! As a 120 pound female blue belt from Canada, I felt the gym had a safe and positive environment. Check these guys out for a sick jiu-jitsu experience!

I just started my training with Marcelo Garcia Dallas and it has been nothing short of amazing. The coaches (Rob, Christian, Kevin, and Dan to name a few) have been extremely patient and knowledgeable. Everyone who trains here is solid and has been very welcoming to a new white belt like myself. At the same time I have been very impressed with the level of skill of everyone here.

Best gym ever. The owner Rob Ables is a wizard who gives world class instruction. He gives focused attention to students and visitors alike, and invests in their success. The students are friendly and welcoming. Visit and you'll meet a truly special group of people. Their enthusiasm rubs off on you. Really chill gym vibe combined with premium technique. Start training there and watch your life improve. 10/10.

I’m quite the nomad with bjj but after looking at different gyms this one has the atmosphere I strive for. It’s just a solid no nonsense gym you can put your roots(hooks) in and be your best self

I have been training at Marcelo Garcia Dallas for 1 year. Training partners are great listeners and help you improve. You are encouraged to ask questions and instructors are open minded. Class starts with a warm up, then technique, and lastly a roll.

Excellent, knowledgeable Professor/owner. Professor Rob is a 4th stripe Black Belt. Professor Rob does not only know the moves but has the ability to teach them with a great focus on the details that make them work. Great place to learn the fundamentals and the more advanced Gi/No Gi techniques.

We dropped in while visiting Dallas for a Fight to Win Pro and got to train with Professor Mario and coach Elisa, they were awesome!! Thanks so much for making us feel welcome and for the great no gi class. The class was technical, the facility was clean and the other students were welcoming!

Visited on a Friday in early December, the mats were clean and the members welcoming. Only had to sign a waiver and show vaccine card or negative test . The day class was structured drilling, taught technique, and then rolling, and I really enjoyed all three. I had a great time and will visit again sometime in the future.

I️ literally drive one hour, down and back, just to train at this gym. Jiu-jitsu is not my career. The commute is inconvenient. And I could probably save a lot of time by just going to some local gym. But I️ still wake up every day and choose to come to Marcelo’s and train with Rob and Mario because I️ can’t get what they offer anywhere else—the first-class technique, the gym culture, and the FANTASTIC people.

I have been to several gyms around the country and this is by far my favorite. Top level instruction and friendly atmosphere. The black belts here are great instructors and the owner is the best to train with.

Coming up on about 6 years training bjj now. I’ve seen great academies and I’ve seen poor ones. Marcelo Garcia Dallas is nothing short of amazing and I chose to make this my academy after visiting several places in the area. Rob brings a warm atmosphere and one can only feel relief when you walk in the door. If you’re looking for a place to learn, train hard, and laugh along the way, then please don’t hesitate to check out Marcelo Garcia Dallas. I’ve never left this academy frustrated and I’ve left every single time with acquired knowledge. Each instructor will take the time to answer questions you have. Each instructor will make sure you don’t feel out of place or vulnerable. I look forward to each training session at Marcelo Garcia Dallas. Every single member at this academy will welcome you with open arms and help you in not only your jiu jitsu journey, but in your life as well. Come check us out.

Amazing Gym. Recently moved to Dallas from Los Angeles and everyone is super welcoming. Great atmosphere. Great Instruction from Rob and the rest of the instructors. No Egos to be found. I have trained at Checkmat and Renzo Affiliates in the past and this is just another solid gym from a another legacy lineage.

Every gym is different but here's what this one is known for: world class instruction, a HUGE emphasis on safety, and a great atmosphere. I found this place when I needed somewhere to train after moving from San Diego and it's the best gym I've ever seen. Best coaches in Dallas, a laid-back atmosphere, and awesome training partners/friends. What more could I ask for? The people who train here have such fascinating personal lives and careers, yet 100% of them say that coming to MG is the highlight of their week. It's certainly the highlight of mine, too.

Rob Ables is one of most realest Coaches I have been around. From day one, I was welcomed in with respect and open arms. Not only just Rob, but the other instructors all teach solid technique and care about their students actually withholding the information. If you’re looking for gym that will take your jiujitsu to new heights whether you’re just starting out or grappler that competes Marcelo Garcia Dallas is for you!!

#1 in all of Texas, there’s other gyms then there’s Marcelo Garcia of Dallas that Rob has established. Egos are left at the door or in a bad review. I started at this place over 10 years ago and have trained with many other gyms. This is most sanitized and professional setting

This is my favorite place on the planet! I found MG Dallas by chance when I moved across the street. I knew it would be convenient and I could not make classes at my previous gym. I had no idea the life changes that would take place. I've been training here 7 years now. This is the best technical teaching I have ever encountered of every gym I have been a member of. So they'll never get rid of me. Haha! The best part of this academy is that we have people from every walk of life. Whatever your goal or drive to be here is from working out to learning self- defense, a therapeutic outlet, kids class or a new hobby, it's all here. Warning this may become the greatest thing that has ever happened to you. ♡ Training at Marcelo Garcia Dallas has taken me from a Blue Belt with no direction in life, to the best shape of my life, a clear career path in martial arts, a 2x World Champion, a pro Jiu Jitsu competitor, an instructor, a Black Belt, and a better person for everyone I meet in life and on this journey. Side note: we have many female members training now, so you have every kind of training partner. I've moved 3 times since I started here and I've stayed with MG Dallas. It's my home and family. Hope to see you there!
