I’ve been training Muay Thai here for the last year and it has been an incredible experience and most rewarding challenge. Great coaches and culture, no BS. Highly recommended for someone at any point in their training journey looking for a true challenge in a supportive atmosphere.
The people make you feel at home almost instantly. They are so supportive of your goals and will always push you to be the best you can be. I love AJJC and will always recommend it to anyone.
I temporarily lived in the Joshua Tree area for about 2 months and trained at Americana during my time there. This gym is awesome!
Michael and his daughters deliver techniques in not only Jiu Jitsu, but wrestling also. Through their lineage of Erik Paulson I had the pleasure to meet him and changed my entire outlook on the game.
Jiu Jitsu is changing for the better and takedown/standup techniques are more important than ever.
Thank you Michael, Leo, the fighting community, and Americana.
Awesome coaches!!
Classes are amazing!!
And I get a really great work out.
They are very family oriented and as a single parent I really appreciate being able to bring my child to the classes.
Recommend this place to EVERYONE
When I walked into the gym I had no previous experience with martial arts. The staff and members were incredibly welcoming and made me feel comfortable very quickly. The coaches are very knowledgeable and take the time to break everything down slowly, answer all your questions, and provide feedback as you go. I would recommend this gym for all levels of ability - from beginner to advanced.
Wow. What an amazing place to start the endless yet satisfying journey. As a 36 year old with no prior training, i have completely felt welcomed and appreciated by the staff and fellow members. Outstanding quality of folks. Ego less and whole hearted 100%.
If youre like me and have contemplated over and over if you should start, i highly regard and recommend Americana Jiu Jitsu Collective. Its easy to be intimidated to try something new but once the first drop of sweat hits the mat, you will be hooked. This place is a great opportunity to rebuild mental health, physical health, and most importantly, new relationships. Thank you to Coach Mike and Coach Leo for blessing me with this opportunity to dwell in an absolute obsession.
I came to appreciate the art of bjj and to learm how to play human chess with fellow students. My favorite part of each class is definitely the last 15 minutes of open mat rolling. Outstanding.
I took Muay Thai classes here and I absolutely love it. The coaches here are amazing and very helpful and friendly. The overall atmosphere here is just extremely friendly and positive. It felt like another home for me and definitely gave me a good outlet for my anger and got me back into shape. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
This is a great place to train regardless of your age. These guys have all type of classes for kids and adults. These guys are so experice and knowledgeable in all types of fighting techniques. Great wrestling, great bjj, great kick boxing all around 5 stars. Not to mention the staff is super cool, motivating and inspiring environment. Everyone is really friendly and helpful. My experience has been great!
Absolutely thrilled with my experience here at Americana Jiu Jitsu Collective!! The warm and welcoming atmosphere made me feel right at home from day one. As a beginner, I couldn't have asked for a better place to start my journey. The instructors are not only highly skilled but also incredibly patient, taking the time to break down techniques and ensure everyone's progress. The camaraderie among members is exceptional - it truly feels like a supportive community. If you're looking for a beginner-friendly and inclusive Jiu Jitsu gym, I wholeheartedly recommend giving this place a try!
My Experience here at Americana Jujitsu collective has been EXCELLENT!!! It was the piece of the puzzle that was missing in my life!! 10 months ago I started my journey and although its been tough I have zero regrets!! I leave each class with my cup over flowing with positivity!!! At 50 yrs old I feel better than I did at 35yrs old. If you or your family members want a Radical Workout and a awesome martial arts experience enroll now!! Thank you Americana Jujitsu collective for everything you have done to make the quality of my life better!! I look forward to my next class!! Hope to see you there!!!
I WAS a small scared person. I was in need of self defense knowledge because of a few incidents.
The collective took me in like family 😊 from the start. Gave me a free class first to show me how I would be comfortable in the gym and on the mat. I was hooked that first day. 😁
I started Muay Thai first (9 months now) kicking air and taping bags 😂. I am loving martial arts and the things i get from it that .. 3 months ago I joined Jiu-jitsu. Wow a whole different experience in itself .. definitely a mind, body, spirit life learning experience.
If your any age I recommend this for many reasons, but if your 50 and over (like me 😉) then I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS!! No regrets. Forever martial arts 🥋 ❤️💪
I love this place! As an almost 68 year old woman that has NEVER participated in anything physical before, this is a new adventure for me. My coach, Cynthia, is well versed in mui thai. She is patient but pushes me to excell. The class is perfect for a beginner, no matter your physical shape. The atmosphere is family oriented and welcoming.
I definitely recommend this dojo.
Americana Jiu Jitsu Collective is the best place around! My kids both take the Jiu Jitsu class and they love it. They have learned so many amazing skills that has helped their confidence so much! We are so thankful for the people and this experience. Thank you Americana!
This gym is amazing. My son trained here when he lived in the area. Now, we visit whenever we’re in town. It’s family oriented and so welcoming. I even took in a kickboxing class and it was fire. Would most definitely recommend you pop in and check it out. Its home away from home.
If you are looking for an academy that will not only teach your child Jiu Jitsu but real life skill Americana Jiu Jitsu Collective is for you. Thank you Coach Michael for everything you do for our family!
This is the best place for beginners and for advanced Jiu Jitsu. They are welcoming and knowledgeable -- you can tell they care about their students. Make sure to check them out for great jiu jitsu training!
Great place to train! The head BJJ instructor is knowledgeable and a genuine nice guy to talk to and the striking coach is also chill and easy going. This is the place to train whenever you are in Yucca valley. They are great with kids and the adult class has great students that are eager to learn and get better at BJJ. When I'm in Yucca Valley this is where I'll be going to train
Definitely would recommend anyone to train here, everyone makes you feel welcome. This was my first time ever doing Kickboxing and Jiu Jitsu and it was a great experience, I felt awesome coming out of my comfort zone. You’ll definitely learn self defense skills and have fun 💪🏽
The coaches Michael, Cindia, Zach, and Robert are great and passionate in teaching each of their students and are patient with newbies like me 🥊🐯
What a wonderful place to train . The instructors are so welcoming and knowledgeable. Whether you are a professional athlete or total novice to the martial arts , you will find the training exceptional . Don’t hesitate to start training . The first step is always the hardest .
Experienced instructors and practioners who are friendly and looking to help everyone improve regardless of skill level. Specializing in MMA, Jiu Jitsu, Judo and Wrestling. Marine Corps Veteran owned and operated.
Also an Erik Paulson CSW affiliate and an overall great place to train at.
Love the family and friendly vibe of Americana. Mike, Cindia and their daughters have helped and supported all three of my boys in their skils but also as role models and friends.
I take kickboxing classes here and Coach Micheal is super knowledgeable and helps modify my training to fit me. The staff is super friendly and make me feel welcomed and are always there whenever I have questions or concerns. This is a family oriented facility so I highly recommend training for the whole family.
Americana Jiu Jitsu is outstanding, student friendly environment. Coach Mike and his family provide a safe and disciplined environment necessary for all student levels. With no previous experience in combat sports I was very nervous to begin but within weeks I felt like I belonged. Amazing people and a fantastic experience. I cannot recommend it enough.
Great people, they care about the community and kids. All sorts of classes available, if you want your kids to gain self esteem, get stronger and learn valuable skills this is a wonderful place to take classes.
I had a blast today and the last year I was here I always had fun wrestling with my teammates they’re really sweet and the instructors are extremely helpful
Can’t say enough good things about Americana Jiu Jitsu. They offer a variety of classes and the instructors are knowledgeable, talented and fun. Our son has been coming here since he was 4 and he absolutely loves it!
Awesome place and it’s definitely worth the money. The coach that teaches the jiu jitsu side is awesome and an awesome person in and out of the class. He pushes you to grow but he’s not over pushing which is awesome. Everyone who I met that works there is awesome and will help you do what you need.
I am truly grateful for JIU JITSU!!! I am truly amazed by all the teachers. I was very excited about my son starting class. When we came to sign up for the classes that Cindia was very helpful and how she care for my son. I feel like we are apart of their family, because of the warm welcome and being apart of the Americans Jiu Jitsu. The teachers here are really amazing and how they really do care about my son and all of the other kids and grownups. My son has learned a lot since he has been here. He is so excited to be here. I am just truly grateful for the Americans Jiu Jitsu and the teachers.
My girlfriend and I came across this place on a short trip to the desert. We felt so welcomed, we had a great time. Cyndia and coach Michael welcomed us and we bought some awesome gear too! Their rashguards look incredible. Great school with great people. It was a pleasure to stop in here. We hope to be back soon.
I was here for a women's self defense seminar and had a blast! Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. Next time I'm in California, I'll definitely have to come back here.
Let me start off by saying that I am beginner to martial arts and began training in my early 40's. This is absolutely an amazing academy. The atmosphere here is very unique: no pressure, very welcoming, and all around incredibly positive and helpful. I was really amazed as to how accurately they describe themselves and how accurately they describe the benefits of Jiu Jitsu. I got into martial arts for gain discipline, to learn self defense, to improve my physical fitness, because I was always interested, and to learn from qualified, accomplished, and helpful people. I'm continuously challenged, encouraged, pushed and pulled, as well as choked and submitted, always learning and growing stronger every day. I'm happy to have found this amazing team. All the instructors are amazing, kind, humble, and open to sharing their knowledge and experience. Competing can be scary, but when you're part of this team, you have the strongest warriors behind you, coaching you, drilling you, and pushing you beyond your limits to help you reach your greatest potential. There's so much to learn about Brazilian jiu-jitsu and this is the best place to learn.
Travis is a great coach, everyone is friendly and it is family oriented. There are a variety of classes for kids and adult alike. Affordable and great training is also offered by other coaches like Greg, and Kathy Long. They are amazing and care about their students and quality of training. Best people I have ever met. They offer self defense, kick boxing, catch wrestling and jiu jitsu classes .Take your kids in to help them learn a great skill or get yourself in shape with fun people and a fun sport
My daughter has been apart of this gym for 8 months now & she loves it! Everyone from the coaches, parents & kids have positive vibes. I have seen a big change in my daughters confidence level in a positive way. 💚👌🏼🌵💪🏼
Absolutely love Americana Jiu Jitsu. There aren’t enough words that can adequately describe how happy I am with the training my kids are receiving. Love how attentive the coaches are. Coaches Mike, Gabe, Gerardo and Sensei Dennis are amazing and are really patient with the kids. Thank you all for the amount of time and work you dedicate to our kids each and every day.
TL;DR: don't come here for jiujitsu unless it's your only option.
I originally wrote this for Yelp, but I added more info here.
I recently moved to Yucca Valley and searched for Jiujitsu schools in the area. Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree only have one school, this school, and they seem to take advantage of that.
The school has no website (update: I guess they do have one, it just doesn't have useful into). You have to contact them on Facebook to get any info, then they only tell you the terms and price in person by getting you to talk to their program coordinator or whatever. The Jiujitsu classes are taught by a purple belt. They force you to wear their uniforms. The price they showed me was basically $200 a month for 2 classes a week (see picture. need to pay 3 months in advance). I asked and they said it would cost more for more classes per week. That's more money per class than I paid in San Francisco (which is one of the most expensive cities in the world), and those classes were taught by a 3rd degree black belt straight from Brazil. They mentioned drop-ins cost $25, so not sure what the incentive is to pay for a membership, since it's the same ridiculous cost. The drop-in fee is fine, but having to pay the drop-in fee for every class even if you are a member? Ridiculous. The entire interaction when I was trying to get info about classes and prices felt like I was buying a car at a used car dealer. Nothing was transparent, or upfront.
Not sure where these rave reviews come from. I've dropped in for classes at lots of gyms, including internationally, and I was disappointed about my initial experience visiting and getting info. Seems like a nice space but I was disappointed. I'm sure the classes are fine but man, they are totally taking advantage of people with their pricing.
