I only was able to squeeze in an hour of open mat and I have nothing but great things to say about Bones BJJ. Everyone there was really welcoming and phenomenal at Jiu Jitsu. It's a pleasure to experience high level jiu jitsu and be treated well while they beat you up in the friendliest way possible. : )

Bones BJJ instilled a profound footprint in both my kids and my life. Our family is eternally grateful for the impact it has made. The owner is one of the best and has helped my children with their confidence and belief in themselves. When we started the academy, we were local, but we had to move quite a distance away. The Bones BJJ family makes us feel so at home, the trip is worth making. The commute does not transition into such an implementing definitive factor.

All of the coaches and students are kind and respectful. The technique itself is high quality and they actually put effort into pairing you with training partners that are of similar size and skill level, making the sparring much more enjoyable and effective.

I have been to couple of other places to try but this place is different. First of all Professor Bones is a legend himself and he really has a good understanding of teaching. He is not only an instructor he is like an elder brother for us. Secondly people who come to train are very competitive. You get to learn a lot from watching them and practicing with them. Everyone is there to help each other and improve each other. Once you join Bones you feel like you are part of a family.

Bones BJJ Academy is a great place to learn jiu jitsu and to become part of a very welcoming and supportive community. Professor Bones is a legit world champion and top notch instructor who truly cares about his students. There is not a more qualified practitioner in the area to learn jiu jitsu from. The atmosphere at the gym is very welcoming as students range from successful competitors to hobbyists who train for fun. I have not received better instruction at any other gym I have trained at.

Where do I begin, I’ve been traveling from New York to New Jersey for 5 years now for my kids to train at this establishment, let that sink in. Devhonte Johnson is one of the most dedicated people I’ve met and has developed a community that is welcoming to all.

Bones Brazilian jiu jitsu has been a great place to train and the team have all made me feel at home. The curriculum, attention to detail and fight resume all speak to the world class room that Devhonte has built. The work ethic that he has inspired has already left a resounding impact on the community. I am lucky to be a part of the team!

Starting BJJ can be daunting but everyone has been nothing but welcoming and supportive. In addition, Professor Devhonte is very aware of the concerns that women have training in a male dominated sport. He makes sure that he, and his team, assure the safety of everyone that trains. I truly love it there.

Best BJJ Academy. I am a BJJ blue belt and, I recently moved back to the north NJ area. Joined Bones BJJ Academy a few months ago, and it was/still is, a life changing experience. Best academy I’ve joined. Bones being one of the worlds best, isn’t only a great competitor, but also an amazing coach. The other instructors at the academy are top notch, and I seriously can’t ask for more. Blessed to be part of such an amazing team. Whether you’re new to BJJ or looking switch gyms, you won’t regret joining Bones BJJ.

Bones BJJ Academy was the first place I started training, not knowing anything else. As I visited other schools after that I quickly realized that this is the place to be.I learned essential fundamentals and built a great base while learning modern and updated techniques of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu taught to me from the highest level. Devhonte "Bones" Johnson is not just one of the best instructors worldwide but the environment and culture the gym has been built upon helps each other come up from the top down. The gym is new and clean with a friendly, inviting environment. Not to mention the stellar kids program. If you're looking for a academy in New Jersey there is no other than Bones BJJ.

Extremely high level training while still costing less than all other schools in the area. Professor Bones is an accomplished Jiu-Jitsu competitor at the highest level and is just getting started. Apart from competing his true talent lies in being able to break down the most complex moves into simple movements that even a day one student can learn.

Beautiful facility with lots of space to accommodate a rapidly growing school. The training room has no pillars which adds to the beauty and functionality of the academy. Professor Bones is a word class athlete and amazing mentor. Highly recommend!

Gym is run by a world class level competitor Devhonte Johnson. High level instruction being given out by him and all the assistant coaches. The gym is catered to all skill levels so regardless of your experience you will be comfortable here. If you're in the area, I recommend checking it out.

Many BJJ clubs claim world class training but Professor Johnson not only brings home elite/majors level world championships, his students do too. And not just once, but regularly it seems. Having said that, I am a hobbyist at best and feel completely comfortable and welcome. my kids are in the kids program which is top notch as well. The culture of this place is fantastic and it's bringing out the best in my entire family.

I’ve been a member of the Academy for a little over a month with zero prior jiu jitsu experience. Devhonte and his team have been extremely helpful and welcoming. Starting any new endeavor can be daunting especially something as physical as jiu jitsu but great instruction and a fun but focused atmosphere are critical in allowing you to continue that pursuit. At Bones BJJ you receive all of that and then some. I truly believe a great team comes from great leadership and both feed off of each other. I am excited to continue to grow and learn. S/o to Zach in particular a very skilled purple belt that has given me many great pointers in this short time which have resulted in obvious improvement. -Julio

I've been trained in various martial art disciplines for 30 years. For the last few years I have trained exclusively in BJJ. Given the time I've spent in the arts, I have come across many schools and instructors. Hands down Devhante Bones Johnson (owner/head instructor) sits at the top with the best. He is very knowledgeable, easy to understand and very very technical. The facility is very clean and more importantly very friendly. Everyone is treated with respect and made comfortable regardless of skill level. Higher ranks help and train with new students and lower belts. This is not common in the industry. If you are looking for a place in NJ to learn high level BJJ in a quality environment under the direction of a world champion, Bones BJJ is the place to go. Whether you are looking to compete at a high level or just want to train as a hobbiest, you will not be disappointed. AJ

The best and only place I would consider training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The Instruction is thorough and detailed in a way that all students have a great understanding on the material being taught. Classes have a range of different people from beginner to experienced competitors. Everyone is super friendly and cool. Kids class is amazing too, producing a plethora of young champions. The kids program is great and I would recommend to anyone with a son or daughter! Every class you or your child will learn something new and have fun doing it.
