Only have been at this gym since this winter but its been fantastic. Shopped around a few dojos and classes to find something that made sense around town- practical reality based self defense in the Krav Maga class has been a ton of fun! Shout out to Ryan, Tony, Ray, Meredith and the other instructors for being patient and always willing to repeat a movement again and again. If this is your first foray into martial arts like me you couldn't pick a better gym.
Posted 5 months agoI was in Kingston for the weekend and had some time to kill, so I decided to drop in for a class at the club. Everyone there was incredibly welcoming and friendly, even after they found out I was only visiting for a single class. The structure of the club and its training program was impressive. They offer open mat sessions, along with beginner, intermediate, and advanced classes, which allows everyone to train with people closer to their own skill level while still having opportunities to learn from more experienced members. The mat space in both rooms was huge, giving everyone plenty of room to train safely and comfortably. The coaches were awesome, and the overall atmosphere was outstanding. I travel for work and have visited a lot of clubs over the years, and this is without a doubt one of the best training environments I’ve ever experienced.
Posted 5 months agoHad a great time training at YGK Combatives while I was in Kingston for work. Frank was super welcoming from the moment I reached out. Great atmosphere, solid people, and both the gi and no-gi classes were 🔥.
Posted 6 months agoI signed up on their website for a free trial class. Frank got back to me right away, asking some questions about my martial arts background. When I told him I hadn't trained gi for awhile, he offered right away to lend me one for the night so I could come out and train. Excellent, relaxed training vibe. Frank had a little something for everyone, breaking down the basics for the white belt and sharing some spice for the higher belts. I could not recommend this place highly enough! I will be coming back every time I'm back in town. Thanks again Frank, you guys rock! - Liam
Posted 8 months agoLadies(and gentlemen)-if you want to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu(BJJ) this is where you need to go! I started training BJJ at YGK January 2023 after taking years off from the pandemic and moving cities. I wanted great instruction, a welcoming environment, supportive coaches, and a place that either had or could grow a strong group of badass women. They checked all these boxes and the group of women has boomed! Now my partner and I train here and have no plans of leaving, if you are reading this and are on the fence, come in, try a class, you’ll be hooked. If you are a woman, identify as a woman, nb, we do Women’s Intros to BJJ fairly frequently for a low stress way of trying BJJ out with other ladies. See you on the mats!
