My jiujitsu coach trains here so I visited for the first time in February and again today in March. The sensei's and instructors are nice and very helpful. The environment is great with good quality mats and a lot of space. Great experience
Best BJJ gym in NYC
The MTA elevators Are a sight to Behold!
I was visiting New York on holiday and stumbled across unity Jiu Jitsu school. Professor Murilo Santana welcomed me in and allowed me to spectate their mid morning training which was amazing in itself. I was then invited to come and train again at any other time. I struggled for time while on holiday but they were so accommodating and even had a gi for me to hire so I could participate. Sebastian was an incredible teacher and made me feel very welcome. The room is full of quality practitioners and it’s easy to understand why. I hope to be back when I visit from Australia in the future, if you can, I’d absolutely take the opportunity to train with these guys, one of the best rooms I’ve ever been in. Blue belt from Australia 👌
I had the pleasure of visiting Unity Jiu-Jitsu in NYC for their open mat this past weekend, and I have to say it was an excellent experience. The gym itself is clean, well-maintained, and has a welcoming atmosphere. A lot of people showed up, making for a variety of great rolls, and everyone I encountered was respectful and friendly. Being able to train at such a legendary school was a memorable experience. The level of talent in the room was impressive, but the vibe was still approachable and supportive. A friend and coach of mine, Suleyman, who trains at Unity, recommended I check it out. If you’re in NYC and looking for top-tier training in a respectful and professional setting, I highly recommend giving Unity a visit—whether it’s for an open mat, a class, or just to soak in the atmosphere of a world-renowned gym.
Great gym with very welcoming staff, coaches and students.
Great staff, great location, simply perfect! Best gym in NYC
Unity Jiu Jitsu School is a truly exceptional place to train. From the moment you step onto the mats, you're welcomed into a community that radiates positivity and dedication to the art of Jiu Jitsu. The people here are incredible—fellow students are supportive, enthusiastic, and committed to helping each other grow, regardless of skill level. The coaches at Unity are nothing short of spectacular. Their deep knowledge, innovative teaching methods, and personal attention to every student make training sessions both challenging and rewarding. They have an amazing ability to break down techniques into precise, understandable steps, ensuring that everyone from beginners to advanced practitioners can grasp and apply them.
This is the best Jiu Jitsu academy in the world! Very high technical level and family-like community. Excellent and accessible location, with qualified professionals prepared to welcome you in the best way possible.
Best gym if you decide to train seriously!
Best gym in the world
Stopped in for a Gi/Nogi class while I was in town for the day. Definitely a legit school with legit instructors! Everyone was nice and welcoming. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.
Ajmal
Great classes with super friendly and humble champions all round. Amazing atmosphere with great jiu jitsu philosophy. Thanks for welcoming this South African traveller. I throughly enjoyed every sweat drop!😊
My friend brought me here when I was visiting the city to show me some ju jitsu. The facility was very clean. Everyone was very friendly and supportive. There are people to grapple with from all skill levels and sizes. Definitely worth checking out. I felt very welcomed even though I just dropped in for the day.
Great facility, amenities & World class instruction. I was very impressed!
Best bjj gym in the city, the people here are consistently friendly and passionate about the sport which makes it a great place to learn and improve
World-class training for children and adults alike. Experience, thoughtful, compassionate, thorough, teaching place for all, Younger and older. Very friendly, Progressive atmosphere.
Unity is the best for all level, very friendly and high level bjj, the gym is good for beginners and for athletes
I decided to start BJJ a few months ago and am very happy I found Unity. Everyone at the gym from the staff (especially Professor Murilo) to the other students are extremely helpful and generous with their time and knowledge. Its a great place to train and learn even if you are starting as an older student
It’s the best BJJ gym in NYC. Wonderful coaching, and great for hobbyists and competitors. Good people here, and everything is transparent. Culture is outstanding.
Update: still the best place in NYC, possibly even *the world,* to learn high level jiujitsu and get the best training. No matter what your goals are - to get into shape, learn new skills, or to become a world champion, the instructors here will help you achieve those goals. Every one of the instructors here are high level and decorated in the sport. Why would you choose to go elsewhere when you can learn from some of the best? Unity is a great community of hardworking good people who love jiujitsu. It's one of the best bjj schools in NYC and under the tutelage of Murilo Santana and his instructors, your bjj will definitely excel. I came here as a blue belt that was actually just a white belt in skill in 2017 and under Junny and Murilo, I have become a much better practitioner. Although it's really difficult sometimes, I appreciate the intensity and the high standards that students here are held to.
Been training with Junny for 2 years at the gym. Awesome group of people there and excellent staff and coaches.
Awesome gym, with amazing instruction
Amazing family atmosphere with people who love jiu jitsu
I walked into Unity two weeks ago for my first ever jiu jitsu class. From the start, everyone was so welcoming, made me feel comfortable, and now, after each class I take, I walk away having learned so much and come back the next time feeling more confident. Not only are the instructors incredibly talented at what they do, but every student I have partnered with has been willing to teach and help me progress in the training. Everyone here from the top down fosters a family-like, positive environment.
Absolutely loved training here. Hard rounds, super technical instruction, and good people. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a gym in the city whether hobbyist or competitor.
amazing dojo with amazing people. i'd like to give a special shout out to my teacher, lisander. he's a first rate instructor and an incredible human being. i learned so much from him over several months. i'd give lisander 6 stars if i could, and i'm a tough rater.
Excelente lugar, respeitoso e com professores incríveis!!! Se você é mulher é um lugar que vale a pena treinar jiu-jítsu!
Moved to NY from LA and was looking for a new bjj home. A lot of people told me to go to Renzo's and so I did, but the vibe wasn't friendly and it didn't feel right. I heard some people talking about Unity on Reddit and decided to try it out. My immediate first impression was wow this instructor is very professional in the way he goes about teaching. I looked him up after class and turns out he's a legend in the sport. Would've never guessed it because he was very humble and friendly to everyone in class. Murilo sets the tone for the rest of the gym and everyone else is very focused on getting better but friendly at the same time. Would highly recommend this place! OSss!
amazing school and coaching
Trained here as a visiting drop-in about 3 times during my trip to New York. Amazing training. Murilo is an excellent professor. Everyone is very technical and friendly. Will come back!
Been coming here since August 2021, there are many technical men and women, I have the fortune to grow with week by week. Could not picture myself training anywhere else
Amazing place - just amazing
The instructors and staff are awesome. It is a very inclusive atmosphere where the practitioners are all friendly and the rolls are very challenging. I was humbled by how understanding everyone has been in regards to my disability and I'm proud to train under Unity.
Started here a year ago as a complete beginner and it’s been a great experience! Everyone is really kind and friendly. The weekday morning classes taught by Prof Junny are challenging and so fun! 🤠
Went here as a white belt drop-in during vacation. I bought a day-pass with which I joined for an 1 hour and a 2 hour regular class. Classes were well organized and instructors were helpful. Mat space was a bit limited for the amount of students. Staff, instructors and students were all very friendly and the gym had a nice vibe in general. Dressing rooms were clean. Would come here again if I come back to NYC.
Professor Murilo gives meticulous attention to every single detail in his teachings. At Unity you are surrounded by active world class elite instructors and training partners. Classes are very engaging and interesting, good for all ages and belts.
Inspired as always. Har work by good people #OSS
World-class training and instruction, mixed with nice people and a tight-knit community. Unity - a school regularly considered one of the best BJJ school in the US - is definitely worth the hype. "Hard work by good people" is the motto, and they certainly follow through with it. Plenty of class times, lots of training partners, fantastic instruction, and, of course, really nice people who welcome newcomers with open arms.
I've been visiting Unity for a month. It has been extremely welcoming. The staff are very attentive, and extremely detailed. Murilo is an incredible teacher, as are the other coaches, who all have a very detail oriented style. Would strongly recommend to anyone in New York. As a warning, it gets extremely hot. Make sure to bring plenty of water (and electrolytes if you have them)
Place is more like a family than a school. Head instructor,Murilo,is a legend and a gentlemen.
I was fortunate to spend both June and July of this year training at Unity Jiu Jitsu. The instruction is excellent (as expected), but I was shocked on how friendly and nice everyone is at the gym. All the instructors and staff knew my by the end of my second week training there. The students at the gym are also super friendly as well. The training is very intense, but I never felt in danger while rolling at full intensity there. I would 100% recommend anyone interested in training BJJ to checkout Unity.
If you are looking for the best training, environment, and instruction to learn jiujitsu, Unity is the place to go. Unity has become my home for over 3 years now and it has been the best experience. whether you are looking to start jiu jitsu for the first time or you are looking for world class competition training, you will find it here.
From the day 1 beginner to the professional athlete, Unity is one of the most inclusive and inviting atmospheres you'll ever find at an NYC gym. Owner, Murilo Santana, and all of the teaching staff have a wealth of knowledge and years of experience to share with you. I would highly recommend dropping in for a free trial class. Unity is open 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Truly an embodiment of their motto: "hard work by good people".
Awesome! 5/5 stars always
Prior to coming here (a smaller female), I had a lot of anxieties and concerns, but after the first class, I was hooked. Prof. Murillo and other higher belts provided professional and top-notch training. There is a genuine sense of community and respect here. Everyone is helpful, encouraging and genuinely nice. This is where I refer everyone. Unity makes this small fry feel safe swimming in the ocean.
Great instructors and community! Really appreciate how everyone is helpful and friendly. The 6:45 classes run 1.5 - 2 hours, so you get more time to drill and roll than your typical 1 hour class which I really like.
Great instruction and every single person in the gym is very helpful. Great group of people trying to learn jiu jitsu and work hard. I have been to a few gyms before and have never come close to a gym as unique as Unity.
A world class facility full of world class instruction from both male and female instructors. The head coach Murilo Santana is truly one of the most knowledgeable practitioners in this art that you can come across worldwide. The school caters to all levels (competitor, hobbyist, total beginner) and walks of life, super inclusive and a variety of classes available in both the gi and nogi. Classes daily at a wide range of times - it's easy to make it fit in with your work/school commitments. I moved across the world to train here from England/Hong Kong and I never looked back. Best decision I made.
Just joined Unity recently but it has been an awesome experience from the first day I walked in. The front desk staff were more than welcoming and helpful with understanding how unity's schedule works and their different memberships despite the many questions I had. The other members at unity are really open and cool people and I really feel the family atmosphere since everyone is so kind. The instructors have also been top notch. As someone new to BJJ, I was a bit nervous going in because of my inexperience. But the instructors in the foundations and white belt classes have a very thought out and structured curriculum. In the more general classes with other belts, white belts are helped out by instructors and also more experienced members to correct technique. Lisander and Anthony especially have been really helpful with providing me with extra instruction and focus when I needed it on some of my techniques. Other reviews have also said it, but Murilo's ability to remember your name and give you his focus even as a new belt is very admirable given his stature and accomplishments in BJJ. Whatever your reasons are for starting BJJ, unity is hands down the place to come if you are in NYC.
I was visiting NYC from St.Cloud, FL and had to stop by Unity after having some of their competitors visit my home gym. The instruction was amazing and clear plus who doesn't want to train with some of the best in the world. They treated me like family and welcomed me in with love and respect. If you are in NYC or just visiting definitely drop by Unity you will not regret it.
I went for a trial practice and was very fortunate to come in on a day working stand up technique. This place is a real Jiu Jitsu gym with solid floor space, staff and accommodations. The pacing of the class was just right with the balance between technique and endurance. The students there were very easy to work with and I felt very comfortable in the environment. Overall I would rate this higher than the competing gyms Ive been to elsewhere in the city in all around quality of environment.
Lots of classes, competitive, and technical. Great place to train!
I am really enjoying my experience at Unity. I feel like they definitely followed through on their goal to make this a community. They could not have picked a more fitting name for their gym. Everyone is so knowledgeable and friendly. I haven’t really met anyone who is stuck up yet. Everyone seems to be willing to throw in their bit of expertise and the instructors/staff make the students feel seen.
Unity Jiu Jitsu is a really great school. It's tidy, has very large mat space, a work out area, and the instructors are gregarious, and very knowledgeable. The training is very good, and the students all have a great attitude. There are showers, and their schedule works perfectly around a 10-6 workday. They're conveniently located right off a train stop, so you don't have to walk a long way to get there if it's raining. I would definitely recommend this school if you're interested in great instruction, and training.
My son loves going and it's a good outlet for his energy!
Unity Jiu Jitsu is a family. It's a place where people from all walks of life can come together for a common love of BJJ. Murilo and Ana have cultivated a supportive and friendly environment for everyone to learn and work hard. They're always fair and accommodating, especially during the past several months as a small business dealing with the COVID pandemic.
Where to begin? I am a white belt beginner from out of town, was recommended this place to train. It feels like a family, the regulars at Unity are kind and so patient with newcomers like myself. They are serious about training, inspiring and you can feel such a good energy during class. Murilo is such a dedicated, PRESENT teacher he is the true definition of a leader. If there is one thing I will miss in New York it is Unity! Peace and love and Oss!
Unity is one of the best places to learn jiu jitsu in the world. I am so grateful and lucky to learn from world class teachers like Murilo Santana, Junny Ocasio and so many others (including all the students!)--the techniques they teach literally blow your mind, the rolls are fantastic and the atmosphere is incredibly supportive. Unity is a place for people who love jiu jitsu. And it's open everyday (yes, you read that correctly--there are classes on every holiday). Students range from the very young to the very old, all shapes and sizes, but we all have in common that we really, really love jiu jitsu. Come by to check it out!
Thanks to you, my family was able to exercise well. If I come to New York next time, I want to visit again. muliro Santana 👍 Felipe Silva 👍 Scott Perry 👍 Rafael Babilonio 👍 Ana's Robot 👍
One of the best jiu jitsu experiences I’ve have to date. Dropped in for a class on a work trip, they definitely lived up to their reputation. Do yourself a favor and train with these folks. Oh, super welcoming also!
excellent gym. the 7am class taught by Junny typically has about 20-25 students. a big mix of black belts down to white belts. you will find a great training partner and a great environment.
I moved to New York recently and toured the top 4 academies in Manhattan, Unity being the first. I was extremely impressed by Murilo taking the time to remember my name and help me on my technique specifically. After my first class I told registration I wanted to check out the other gyms in the city and they thought that was a great idea. After checking out three other gyms I made my decision to join Unity because it had the best blend of competition, teaching, welcoming environment as well as working with me on a plan that fit me best. I have been training two weeks and could not be happier with my decision. Really looking forward to this upcoming year.
Unity is the best school I've ever been to in NYC. Great training, world class instruction, and a super welcoming friendly environment full of badasses. Never going anywhere else.
I trained for two weeks at the gym during my stay in New York and could not have made a better choice. Great classes, structure and friendly environment. Professor Murilo and his team are excellent professionals and the class dynamics are very good.
Top level training and great community of people.
Unity Jiu Jitsu is a warm and welcoming facility where anyone can feel good about training. This is the only gym in NYC that has world champions training on the mats where you still feel like a member of the Team no matter your skill level. I will never train anywhere else
I came down from Toronto for a week for some work and decided to train here while in NYC. By far the best bjj gym I have ever trained at. The gym is serious in all the right ways (intense training, good instruction) and laid back in all the right ways (no stupid gym drama or bjj politics). Super sad to leave, but will hopefully be back to train soon.
I love this gym! Everyone is always so welcoming and happy to help you wherever you are on your BJJ journey. ❤
Great gym, great training environment and the people are lovely. Highly recommend if you're interested in learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with some of the best in the world.
Friendly atmosphere, huge mat space and locker rooms! Whether it's your first day, or you are already a world champion, there is high level coaching and training partners for you here
Even though I am not that good and show little potential, Murilo always takes the time to correct my technique and make sure that I don't drill the wrong move. It's the only school in the city where instructors go out of their way for all the students, not just the pros.
Unity is my favorite place to train when I’m in NYC. The atmosphere is very inclusive, everyone there is friendly and helpful and Murilo is an exceptional teacher.
Visited this place after many people recommended it. Was only in town for a few short days but I’m very glad I stopped by here. All the students were very welcoming. I did 2 classes on a visitors pass. It gets hot in that room. Great gym culture and top-notch athletes and coaches. Thank you guys for making it so welcoming.
Amazing place to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in NYC & Murillo Santana is a great professor
I had the best Jiu Jitsu classes in my life @ Unity. Top notch of training in nyc! Having Murilo and the Miyaos in one academy is more than enough.Thank you Murilo & Miyaos for making my 3 weeks visit a fantastic and full of learning Jiu Jitsu experience. Obrigado! 🙏🙏
Tightly knit, supportive community of practitioners. I was challenged and able to learn at my own pace. If I wasn't moving away I'd still be training there.
One of the best gyms out there! My coach has always spoken so highly of Murilo Santana and everything he has learned from him over the years. I have made the trip from Richmond VA twice to train here and certainly will again. The staff is very friendly, the students are tough and dedicated, the location is very convenient and they seem to be very flexible with the needs of students. I’m a small woman and I got sensible but incredibly challenging training. If you are in NYC check Unity out!
Unity has helped our 2 daughters not only become more confident, but also better thinkers in school, with friends, and whenever in a challenging situation. It’s training of the mind and body. Big Thank you and kudos to Ana and all the instructors at Unity.
Best training in the area and some of the best staff! Never an easy training session oss!
Friendly and cohesive community for anyone serious in learning this art. Cannot recommend Unity enough, especially to anyone interested in competition and being part of a supportive and accomplished community. (I finally took the time to join because my kids are progressing so much in the short time they've been doing sessions with Ana, and it'd be great to be able to support them with the basics.)
The first time I stepped into Unity I had a great feeling. I decided to try it, and was signed up as soon as possible. I developed an appreciation for jiu jitsu, thanks to Murilo and my teammates.
Came for an open mat session with a friend. Great experience , great rolls and awesome staff. A true bjj elite academy. Would def recommend this place to anyone especially if your interested in quality training.
Greater training, even greater people. For both beginners and seasoned practitioners
I've only been going here for a couple weeks now, but it has been great so far. Very informative and effective drilling in a welcoming environment. Great group of people
My sons loves this class, great energy, teachers and vibe. Love that both kids of all ages and adults are there. Only thing is to install an AC it’s just too hot on hot days. Already have 2 of his friends join the class, 2 more this fall
Absolutely wonderful place to train. Incredibly high level instruction, wonderful staff who are super welcoming. Cool vibe, laid back, very tough training sessions which is awesome. Will definitely be back - Brian
Been here for a week. Murilo was super welcoming. He remembered my name. Classes were packed and still he Found the time to help me with the techniques he showed. Techniques he showed was for all levels and great details👌. Everybody Else was super friendly. Next time im in NYC unity Jiu jitsu for sure.
I came for a drop in class while visiting NYC and had a positive experience. Unity was a welcoming atmosphere, offered good instruction, and had a strong team to train with!
First class facility. One of the most welcoming schools we have ever visited. We will definitely be back the next time we are in town.
quality people, quality rolls, above excellent professors and teammates. 11/10 would recommend
Took my son here to experience another form of MMA Sport. We took advantage of the free Saturday lesson we saw in Kidpass. So far my son enjoyed it and Will attend another Saturday class. The only downside is: it's quite a commute from Queens. If my son likes it enough...we might be coming more often.
Very pleased with my first experience at Unity. I came for one of their afternoon open trainings and was treated kindly by the members there. If you check them out, be prepared for a lot of sweat and hard work! They don't play around here!
I've visited Unity to train during the free Pro Training sessions several times in late 2016 and late 2017. These sessions are very tough and there is always a lot of high level talent in the room during these sessions! Unity has great training partners, great people, great training methods, and most importantly a great leader in Murilo Santana. Murilo was very welcoming and friendly toward me and valued me as a guest. I'll be visiting some more with a friend in March. <3 Unity BJJ!
Visited a couple times from Canada. Incredible vibe and atmosphere. They are true to their word when they say they don't care about the teams and the politics, they just want to train hard. Murillo truly wants to help everyone get better and spread Jiu Jitsu.
Great experience and great instruction. The instructors and students are very welcoming and respectful.
General members must still pay tuition during the pandemic just to stay at home while “pro” members get to skirt the law and still train on others’ hard-earned money. Way to have perspective.
