Started my Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu journey in Feb of 2025. I did not know what to expect at all and where to begin. I typed mma gym into google map and UCS popped up. I emailed Jamar for a trial run and he set up an appointment for me. I will break this review down into a few sections. Head Instructor: Jamar adapts to each individual and motivates them according to their personality. He is one of the finest and most professional individuals I have ever had the pleasure to work with. He takes MMA very seriously and passionately. He cares about his students on and off the mat has made positive impacts on many people's lives, me included. He runs his business with integrity and honesty even if it means not making as much money as he could. He is upfront and honest with his students whether it's promotion or not being a good fit for the gym. He puts his students first and truly believes that his team is his family. Parking and facility: There are plenty of parking spaces. Facility is spacious with two restrooms. Got a few changing rooms to change in between classes from Muay Thai to Jiu Jitsu. Got a staging area for your gear and cameras all over the gym so you do not have to worry about your stuff going missing. Jamar offers refrigeration in case you have protein or drinks you want to keep chilled. Plenty of weights and workout equipment in case you are injured and cannot participate in sparring or rolling.I recently tweaked my ribs and while others rolled after lessons I just worked out at the side. Jamar cleans the gym after each use after the morning session as well as the night session. Environment/hours/schedule: UCS is one of the friendliest places I have ever been to. Unlike some of the other gyms out there, the students and instructors are not out to impress anyone. What I mean by that is no one is going to beat you up just to show you how cool they are. In fact Jamar is very big on being respectful and frowns upon being a mat bully. Hours of the gym are very accommodating. However accommodating Jamar is he does not tolerate being late, it's part of being respectful to other students! Muay Thai/Jiu Jitsu: As far as I know, this gym is one of the only gyms that still offers Muay Thai around the area. There is no "beginner's class" as everyone learns in a big group setting. This goes for both Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu as well. Jamar has a keen eye for each individual's skill level and pairs you up with people that can teach and guide you. Each session starts with warm up following up with a lesson plan for the week and ends with light contact sparring. Safety is very important at UCS as it should be at any MMA gym. Jamar has a no nonsense policy when it comes to the hygiene and safety of his students. With that being said you will get punched/kicked in the face and body, but it's something you will be able to tolerate. I mean after all you are coming to learn a combat sport. This is a Carlson Gracie Jiu Jitsu and they teach both Gi and No Gi Jiu Jitsu. One of the reasons why I love this gym is because it is a very balanced gym. Jamar encourages his students to learn both and be well versed in both. At first I was super lost as to what I'm supposed to do but from the short months I have been here I feel like I have improved significantly. Everyone here is very patient and welcoming and I never felt pressured to practice any moves I'm not comfortable with. One of the earliest lessons I have learned from Jamar is tapping early and not pushing myself because I do not know what I am doing yet. As far as promotions, go there isn't a test so you do not have to worry about paying extra to advance. Overall, I cannot recommend this place enough. I have made many valuable friendships that I know will last a lifetime. you will just have to come and check it out. Reach out to Jamar about trial class and begin your journey, you will not regret it, OSS!!!
Posted 1 year agoI highly recommend this Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and Judo Academy to anyone seeking a challenging yet rewarding martial arts experience. The professors are not only demanding but also fair and hardworking, pushing students to give their all in every session, nothing less. The atmosphere is one of dedication and camaraderie, making it a difficult but immensely enjoyable place to train. There is also a variety of amazing kids programs for any age at any level. If you’re ready to commit and push yourself to new heights, this academy is the perfect fit for you.
Everything has been great with UCS. Jamar, the instructor, and all the students are very helpful and provide a great environment to learn and improve. I practice Muay Thai but am looking forward to learning jui jitsu as well. Thank you UCS!!!
My experience at UCS has been phenomenal. I could not be happier at any other gym. The environment is friendly and welcoming to anyone coming from any background. Myself personally having zero martial art experience, found it very difficult to begin and get a hold of everything. Coach Jamar and the students have been incredibly insightful walking me through all of the drills and ensuring everyone gets their reps in properly before moving onto the next. Having both morning and evening classes which start at 6pm is perfect for those 9-5 workers looking to get a good workout in. Since joining, it has been the best decision for my life. I've lost weight, gotten stronger and feel the best Ive ever felt. I look forward to every day inside such an enthusiastic and competitive environment created by a wonderful instructor pushing everyone to be the best they can be. UCS for the win! Also shoutout Eddie and Aaron for being such wonderful Kids class coaches. It's a great feeling coming in everyday to see such passionate teachers empowering the youth and next generation.
UCS is such a great place for all martial arts training. The culture is everything you’re looking for. Everyone on the team is knowledgeable and willing to help. Jamar is the best coach around. Can't recommend this place enough.
I love this gym - instructor and teammates are knowlegable, welcoming, and supportive. I've been here for a few months and what hooks me in is having fun and the people there take my mind off my ordinary life stresses. I love the timeslots of the classes available, facilities are clean, and over time you build bonds with the people that train there. I highly recommend this spot if you want to get in shape, learn MMA (Judo, Muay Thai, BJJ, Wrestling), and/or be part of a fitness community.
Awesome Community! You can expect to be held accountable and pushed to Greatness at UCS. Professor Jamar has a real passion for what he does and it shows through his team! Sign up and Show Up.
I have been coming to UCS for about 8 months and it has been amazing! I originally came to UCS for the Muay Thai and eventually tried out the jiujitsu and I'm so glad I did. In both classes, Jamar is an excellent teacher and he is very passionate about the arts. He explains things very well and his quality of instruction is top of the line. The other professors are equally as helpful and encouraging. What I also really appreciate about UCS is the culture he has cultivated in his students. Everyone here is very encouraging and always willing to offer tips on how to improve. I had never done combat sports before so l was pretty nervous and felt like it would be intimidating. Those feelings quickly dissipated thanks to everyone being so friendly and encouraging. I always look forward to coming in and I don't plan on leaving anytime soon
I always look forward to my workouts at the University of Combat Sports (UCS) gym. When I first joined, I was immediately drawn to the Muay Thai classes. I was impressed by the coach's expertise and dedication, the friendliness among the students, and the positive training environment. As I continued at UCS, I also joined the jiu-jitsu classes, further expanding my skills and fitness. This is the place to be if you want to learn and improve your techniques while working towards your fitness goals, including weight loss.
UCS is a special gym that places the highest priority on cultivating a safe and harmonious gym culture. I highly recommend this gym to anyone who wants to learn jujitsu or muay thai. Coaches and members are dedicated to helping you learn, grow and most importantly stay safe. I have been at the gym for almost a year and can't imagine training anywhere else.
I've been coming to UCS for almost three years. I absolutely love everything about the place. Jamar and the guys are very welcoming and take pride in helping newcomers. I would definitely recommend for all levels of BJJ and Muay Thai. MMA classes are offered on Saturdays and gives you an opportunity to put all skill sets together. Give UCS a shot. You will not regret it!
I started training Jujitsu here 1 year ago, singing up has been one of the best decision I’ve ever made. Everyone treats each other like family and Jamar is an amazing coach, we are super lucky to have him 🙏
I have trained here for about a year now, and I could not recommend UCS enough. All the coaches are helpful, knowledgeable and welcoming to newcomers. There is plenty of space to train, and equipment is in good shape. The curriculum is great for martial artists of all levels. Come here if you want to take your grappling/striking game to another level.
Exceptional Experience at University of Combat Sports with Jamar Ocampo My son and I embarked on a journey into the world of Muay Thai at the University of Combat Sports in early 2022, under the exceptional tutelage of Jamar Ocampo, and it has been an awe-inspiring experience. Jamar's professionalism is unparalleled. His mastery of Muay Thai is evident, but what truly sets him apart is his remarkable patience and knack for simplifying intricate techniques. With a keen ability to communicate complex moves in a clear and understandable manner, Jamar makes the learning process incredibly engaging and rewarding. What truly distinguishes Jamar is his genuine personality. His unwavering positivity, coupled with an encouraging attitude, creates an environment that fosters growth not just in skill but also in camaraderie. Through our training sessions, a profound friendship has developed--a testament to Jamar's authenticity and warmth. Flexibility is key in any endeavor, and Jamar embodies this trait effortlessly. His accommodating nature regarding schedules and his astute business sense make the entire experience seamless and enjoyable. Beyond being an exceptional teacher, Jamar's prowess as a fighter shines through. His dedication to his craft and unwavering commitment to excellence serve as an inspiration to us, motivating us to push our boundaries further. Our journey at the University of Combat Sports has been nothing short of remarkable, thanks to Jamar Ocampo. With his guidance and the welcoming atmosphere of this gym, we envision ourselves continuing this incredible journey for years to come. If you seek a place where professionalism, expertise, warmth, and personal growth converge, University of Combat Sports with Jamar Ocampo is undoubtedly the place to be.
A little more than a year ago my father (55 years old) and myself (31 years old) were looking for some sort of fun physical activity to do together to get healthy and also just spend more time together. After talking for a while we thought it would be a great idea to get into some sort of combat sport (something we both have always wanted to do). We noticed that the UCS gym was about 15 minutes away from our area so gave it a shot and set up a private lesson (muay thai) with Jamar Ocampo, the owner. After the first class we were hooked and decided to start training with him (private sessions) 2 times a week an hour per lesson. A year later and let me tell you, it has been one of the best decisions i have ever made and I know i can speak for my father as well. Not only do we have fun every single lesson but we both have lost 15+ pounds, made amazing relationships and overall, this past year my life has been increasingly better, and I can say that's mostly due to UCS and Jamar who has become has become both a brother and great mentor. This has become something that's part of my life and I'm so glad my father and I came across UCS.
UCS has provided me with such an amazing environment to train at with quality instruction , family vibe , motivation and accountability. UCS will push you to be your best self 🙏
My kids have been attending UCS for the kids Muay Thai, wrestling, and jiu-jitsu classes for the past 6 months and I couldn't be happier with their progress. I was hesitant at first to join a gym that was over 20 miles from my home until I saw their coaches in action. Coach Aaron and Coach Eddie are true professionals that know how to keep the kids engaged and having fun while teaching them proper techniques. The sportsmanship and friendships the children share is heartwarming to see throughout their training and matches. In my time there, any kid that attended a trial class immediately joined the gym. The atmosphere is welcoming and definitely family friendly. My kids look forward to their classes every week.
I initially moved to this area in October ‘22 and did a couple trial runs at a few of the surrounding schools before settling on the UCS academy in March ‘23. This academy is a rare gem for a few reasons, 1. There’s an equal balance of Gi & Nogi BJJ. 2. The school also offers Muay Thai, Judo, Strength & Conditioning, and MMA classes. (Rare combo to find) 3. The academy has a great class schedule ranging from AM to PM classes. (Also hard to find) 4. The level of detailed coaching literally from any of the instructors is second to none. 5. Above all, the community is one of the most welcoming and family oriented which is a core value that trickles down from the owner - something I personally look for in a school. Whether you are starting your martial art journey or continuing it, this is a top notch place to do it at.
Jamar is an amazing coach. He is a skilled fighter and teacher who is detail oriented and makes sure that the people that come into the gym are safe and respectful. When I came to UCS, I had no experience with Muay Thai or BJJ. As a beginner, I was nervous to enter a new environment and set of sports. It has been a little under a year now, and I can’t think of a better place to have found myself. The UCS community is welcoming and friendly, and as a woman, I feel comfortable and respected. If you put in the work, this community will help you grow and improve. I would recommend the UCS for all levels of Muay Thai or BJJ. Side note: The gym is clean and organized!
Been training here for a year and it’s a great place to learn! Tough rolls and a great community.
UCS is the perfect balance for a martial arts gym. One extreme for gyms are for active professional fighters, and every person there wants to hurt you and are only there for themselves. The other extreme is so casual that people train once a month, and no one is able to challenge you and push you to learn. UCS sits perfectly in the middle, where there are plenty of skilled people there that will always challenge you while still being a teammate who is invested in your growth and safety. I train in all of the adult classes. The jiujitsu here is world class. It has a good balance between gi and no-gi, which is great for someone like me whose aim is MMA. All of the striking classes are also great for MMA, covering the moves and combos that will work in the cage, streets, or a striking only ring.
I've been training here for about 3 months only doing jiu jitsu and it has been fantastic. I was initially pretty apprehensive but Jamar and everyone there have been nothing but welcoming and supportive since I started. Nobody here is cocky and everyone here is eager to help, very informative classes that consist of drilling and live rolls. If you're looking for a place to start training, you will be in great hands here!
This gym is pretty good, one of the best around. Great for building confidence as well as learning moves that can be used in a real life situation. The people are nice and instructions are clear, doing jiujitsu and muay thai here can really get one into good physical and mental shape.
I've been training at UCS for 6 months, and I cannot give it higher praise. Professor Jamar has created a community of people that care about training and growing as martial artists--but also care about each other as people. If you are a parent looking for a way to teach your children self-confidence or self-defense, this place is a must. If you are hoping to find an academy where you can learn this amazing art called Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, this is the place.
I recently began training at UCS and I have learned plenty in the last two months. UCS provides a positive atmosphere and a variety of classes for anyone willing to put the work in. The team is very welcoming and always willing to lend a helping hand. Coach Jamar is knowledgeable and patient; he ensures to hold his students accountable. Jamar strives for everyone to grow inside and outside the gym. I recommend anyone who is skeptical about training to come check out the gym and see what it has to offer!
Great Professor, Great instructors, different classes and work for every level. The upper belts are very helpful and friendly. "Water, mouth pieces, it's murder time" - is music to my ears. Definitely recommend everyone to find out themselves.
I have trained at several Jiu Jitsu and MMA schools throughout my 8 year venture into martial arts. Some good, others not so good. I will say that UCS offers by far the hardest training with plenty of talented students to train with. Professor Jamar is very knowledgeable and is personally emotionally invested into the growth of his students. If you are looking to compete or learn actual self defense skills I encourage you to attend a trial class at UCS before you sign on with another gym. You won't regret it.
Never in my 20 years of martial arts training have I encountered a school like UCS. From the moment you enter you know immediately that you’ve found something truly special as the facility itself is strikingly cutting edge and an absolute work of art. Training under coach Jamar and the other instructors at UCS is as close as you can get to a professional mma camp and in the last month I’ve made strides in both my grappling and striking game that surpass anything I’ve picked up at my previous gyms. Every single person who trains at this gym has welcomed me with open arms as well and I’ve yet to run into an ego that’s rubbed me the wrong way. Seek out UCS if you’re ready to take things to the next level as both a martial artist and human being; there truly is nothing else like it!
This place is great!! I began training here about 7months ago as a beginner and have seen much improvement on my bj and striking abilities. UCS has a freindly environment for all levels and has people who are interested in helping you learn, while at the same time giving you tough and competitive sessions. Jamar is a friendly guy who is very knowledgeable in MMA and has helped me a lot. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is is interested in training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or Muay Thai!
Been coming here for 6 months now. Hard rolls, hard rolls, hard rolls. Everything comes with a high five and knowledge for the future. You will never make the same mistake twice, trust me. Ask for Mr. Daniel, Eddie, or Aaron ! They are great leaders and very strong purple belts that will help a lot with training. Don’t forget to stay for Muay Thai after jiujitsu, this place isn’t for the weak!
Best place I’ve ever trained at. Definitely a place for training and not just a place to “work out” or “get some cardio in”. Everyone shows up and takes each class seriously—From beginners to advances students. But, don’t let the “seriousness” of the sport taken at this gym be daunting… everyone here is so patient and helpful. The vibe is so fun and welcoming. It’s definitely not a bunch of individuals showing up to better just better themselves, but a huge team pushing each other to be better. There’s nothing individual about the gym; you join with a good attitude and become a part of the UCS family. The processor also takes the time to be much more than just an instructor— hosting BBQ’s at the gym to watch MMA fights together, and just one to build rapport with each of his students.
I love this place! I feel comfortable, I feel at ease and at home. Professor Jamar is an amazing guy, with an encyclopedia of knowledge, I highly recommend this place for everyone.
Great Gym. My girl are in the kids Muay Thai and wrestling class. As young women I wanted them to know how to defend themselves and also have confidence in themselves. Week after week I see their progress along with all the other kids and I couldn’t be happier. The girls look forward to seeing their gym mates and coaches every week. Thank you Coach Johnny, Jamal, Aaron and Jamar.
I've been training here at UCS for about a year now. Professor Jamar is very patient and pushes EVERY student to perform their best. The gym is very welcoming and non intimidating with the teammates that also seek growth and help each other as well too. The gym has recently expanded and now offers children's classes of which my daughter attends. Everyday is different at the gym and sometimes we get guest instructors as well.
I have been looking for a good MMA type gym in the area for quite some time now and discovered this hidden gem in Upland. I can't speak enough about professor Jamar who really helps motivate and push his students to get better and challenge themselves to improve their skills. The classroom offers various opportunities to learn different skills, wether it is on the ground doing BJJ or doing stand up Muay Thai. The students in this class are all respectful of each other and the more experienced students are always willing to help the newer students get better by critiquing moves during drills or sparring. I was initially afraid to sparr but everyone made me feel comfortable and I learned that the more experienced students were there to help and not to hurt so I didn't have to worry. I highly recommend this gym to anyone interested in joining a gym that has a lot to offer and has the best value.
UCS Carlson Gracie, hard work, sweat, determination, patience, respect and grit are the ingredients of what makes that place so epic. You will be impressed if you get to see the display of Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, mma, wrestling, kids wrestling, kids Muay Thai and fitness classes available at UCS.
I've known Jamar for nearly six years and have to say that it's been a fantastic ride from the beginning. Jamar has been a successful instructor and participant in the sport for many years. His no-nonsense, straightforward approach, as well as his hands-on skills, have elevated my experience to new heights. Aside from that, every student I've encountered is approachable and patient when discussing a method. I am extremely fortunate to be able to train in such a high class gym. Compared to any other gym in the inland empire, training here is ten times more fulfilling. If you're tough and want to improve, come here to train.
I have trained at Carlson Gracie, UCS in upland for about 8 months now and I enjoy every training cession. Professor Jamar is a great teacher and makes classes both enjoyable and demanding at the same time. Every class is a great workout and a learning experience. The guys at the academy range in age and ability, they train hard and really put you through a workout, while taking care of each other at the same time. They are all willing to teach you moves that they know and willing to learn from others also. A great place to train, no mater what your ability is. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to get into jiu-jitsus,, MMA, Muay Thai, he even has a kids wrestling program.
One of the best decisions i have ever made was to start Jujitsu and was lucky enough to find UCS. Not only were they a BJJ school but a branch from the Carlson gracie family and taught Muay Tai! So i got to learn kickboxing, mma, wrestling, boxing and overall fitness. Jamar Ocampo and the UCS family are one of the best around Claremont, la verne, San Dimas, upland and ontario if you ever wanted to get into the all around sport of mma with great foundations for adults and kids look no further and join the family!
UCS is the best gym in the area! Coach Jamar is a fantastic coach that creates a positive and friendly atmosphere. Everyone that trains here is super helpful and friendly. UCS offers a variety of phenomenal classes such as BJJ, MMA, and Muay Thai. I would highly recommend this gym to anyone trying to learn self-defense and improve their fitness!
Great BJJ/MMA school that will push you to get better. I have been training at UCS for seven months, and its an amazing school.
Of all the gyms I've trained around upland and ontario regions, UCS in Claremont is easily the best. The Muay Thai and juijutsu classes are challenging and engaging. They offer a variety of disciplines including MMA and kids classes. Coach Jamar creates a friendly but engaging atmosphere for everyone. It is a great way to learn displace and achieve any fitness goals.
Ive been training at UCS- Carlson Gracie Claremont for over two years now and can say that i have grown so much since starting this journey. Jamar, the head instructor has been great and is always there whenever you need to ask a question about a move or transition when training. Whether it's jiujitsu, Muay Thai, MMA, wrestling, or even fitness in general he is always there to help you grow and push you. would definitely recommend training here.
Imagine an environment so motivating, with people so encourage and invested in you, with instructors that demonstrate why they’re the instructor with courteous professionalism, that you couldn’t help but feel guilty about missing even a single day... that is UCS. This is a place you go to grow. To engage with real top-of-the-line instruction and train with a perfect balance of casual and professional martial artists. I’m proud to be a student and to have the privilege to train in such an amazing environment.
Love this place been training here for about a few months now. Been learning so much from coach Jamar UCS is a big happy family for me now. The classes for muay thai and bbj are top notch also you really get the full experience and best teaching here at the U.
UCS Carlson Gracie Claremont is a gem. I’ve only been training bjj here but UCS offers Muay Thai and MMA classes as well. Professor Jamar puts much thought and energy into his curriculum which helps students put together pieces of the jiu jitsu puzzle more smoothly than just showing students random moves each class. Everyone training here has been very friendly and helpful. UCS also offers wrestling and Muay Thai for kids too. My son loves wrestling class, great coaches for the kids. Anyone who is near Upland, Ontario, La Verne, San Dimas or Claremont, I would definitely recommend this school to train at.
I’ve been training here at UCS for the past year now. Jamar (our instructor) pays great attention to detail and makes sure we understand what we’re doing and when to apply it. I train BJJ and Muay Thai here and not only have I gained new skills but have also become part of the Carlson Gracie family. Everyone here are amazing training partners. We look out for each other and compete at the highest level. Jamar is not only an incredible instructor, but also a great mentor and friend. This is the gym to be at if you’re looking to improve or learn BJJ, Muay Thai, wrestling and MMA.
I've been training at UCS Carlson Gracie for over a year now and it is without a doubt the best gym I've trained at. When I first started I was a bit shy and very quiet. But what grasped me was the environment. Everyone there were so friendly and welcoming I felt comfortable within my first week. Being comfortable is what's most important because that is what makes you love it and stay consistent. I've been training Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, MMA, etc. Within a couple of months I saw major improvements in my skills and I thank Jamar who is such an amazing coach for being a professor who pushes us to be better and is always looking out for us. If you are in Claremont or La Verne area I highly recommend this gym weather if you are looking to learn self defense or using it as a workout.
I started training jiu jutsu here in august, and since the first day I felt an amazing vibe, & brotherhood and couldn’t stop since then. Jamar is an amazing professor. Takes care of his students. I definitely recommend coming here if you’ve never trained before and just want to know how it is. This place will definitely guide you to the right path.
UCS is the first gym I tried out when I first moved to the Upland/ Claremont area, after that first day I never left. As a beginner, I was intimidated to join a gym but stepping into this gym my first day, the coach Jamar and the other students were very welcoming and helpful. Ive been training here for four years and counting and don't plan on leaving anytime soon. Although, I don't have experience with any other gyms, my training partners who have can guarantee that UCS is one of the best gyms and reassure me that I fell into the best gym. I love all the training that is offered here, from BJJ (jiujitsu), muay thai, MMA, all the way to general lifting and fitness. The coach and my training partners always push the team to become better and grow, and have become like brothers to me throughout the years, the environment is definitely family oriented. Im glad that I found UCS and I am happy to be a part of this Carlson Gracie family. Highly recommend UCS to anyone thinking of joining a gym to train at.
Great place to train. Do not want to be cliche, but this place is where like minded individuals train and strive to get better. Overall, the programming is broken down and has a detailed curriculum. Which is based on scaffold learning. Muay thai, bjj, wrestling, and mma. To be fair, i have only trained for a year, and i can definitely say, i will be continuing to learn this art.
For about 2 years I've been training at UCS Carlson Gracie Claremont. I initially came in to be trained in boxing, Muay Thai and kickboxing. However professor Jamar pushed me to try training in Jiujitsu as well. Super happy that he did, The team here is all like family and welcomes anyone. I quickly grew a lot of friends and in my short time of training a few times a week I earned 2 stripes on my white belt. If you really want to learn from one of the best professors around I encourage you to come join the team. My overall fitness endurance has increased tremendously since joining.
Ucs is great learning environment for all levels of skill with a tough coach who will make you better. Offering a variety of classes from mma to jiu jitsu, ucs is great for all people around the upland and Claremont area
I've been training at UCS Carlson gracie for over a year. I do jiujitsu, muay Thai, kickboxing, MMA, and wrestling. I used to do boxing, but all these spots are so much more fun! Jamar is a great instructor, and he will make you good at whatever sport you choose. Thanks to Jamar (the coach) and the team, I just won my first BJJ tournament. The classes are also good for general fitness and weight loss. Everyone who trains there is super friendly, and they make training fun. Anyone who is local to Claremont, La Vern, San Dimas, Ontario, or Upland should CHECK IT OUT. They also have kid's classes!
UCS is a one of a kind gym, Coach Jamar has been my strength & conditioning coach for the past year and a half. He has been an huge role in my fitness journey. Whether you are looking to train in martial arts or just get in shape UCS is the place to get challenged both mentally and physically while being surrounded by great people. UCS has all the tools you need to be successful, as long as you come with a open mind and a good attitude the sky’s the limit!
UCS is by far the best MMA school in the area. You could look all over Upland, Ontario, or Claremont and you won’t find a better school. Their BJJ program is world class in and of itself. And even if Jiu-Jitsu isn’t your thing, you’ll be amazed with the Muay Thai program available. Not to mention the wonderful kids program, where they teach them wrestling and kickboxing as well. If you’re interested in martial arts either for fitness, self defense, or just to push your limits, then the University of Combat Sports is the gym for you.
University of Combat Sports is a top notch BJJ and Muay Thai/Striking and MMA school. Jamar Ocampo is a phenomenal instructor who takes the time to make sure the class is understanding the FINER details of the moves. Instead of blowing through a move and moving onto the next. He tries to make a well structure curriculum that focuses on one area/position and then moves to another the complements well. There is tough BJJ practitioners here who will give you a tough roll, but also nice and welcoming to created a welcoming enviroment. I would pick this school over any of the Gracie or Checkmat, Millenia in the area because Jamar Gives better instruction that is more persionalized. There is no Culty, Commerically things like the other schools.
I've been training with coach Jamar for a few years now and have learned a ton. His gym is nice and the facility is clean. His teaching is very good and has helped me to continue growing as a martial artist.
Fun place. Very clean. I do the boxing and Muay Thai kickboxing. I thought it was going to be like one of those cardio kickboxing fitness places but instead I’m actually learning how to defend myself as I get in shape. The instructor is very thorough and students very friendly.
I have been to a few places to try Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Jamar Ocampo is the most welcoming instructor I've ever met. Everyone feels part of the UCSMMA team from day one. The classes are great, and there's a great selection of classes from no-gi, gi, muay thai, kick boxing, mma, and boxing. No matter what your interest, level, whether your intention is for fitness or competition, or schedule UCSMMA is a great place to train.
UCS MMA is a great spot to learn everything from Muay Thai, Boxing, BJJ, etc. I've trained under Jamar for a few years, and recently brought my daughter here for 1 on 1 training for muay thai. Hes a great coach and great person to learn from
Coach Hjalmar is amazing!!!! He helped me reach my weight loss goals after I had my son. I can’t wait until my son is old enough to be a part of the UCS family. Thank you Hjalmar!
Awesome, family environment! If you're looking for a good group of people to train with, look no further. I've been in this game since '98, been coached by many, but very few can match the fine details like Coach Jamar. Clean facility. All levels welcome. Come train!
Coach Jamar has a great MMA gym out in upland. The gym is super clean he has a great system on how he runs the classes. I came in as a Wrestler and now my BJJ has improved a lot. Take my word when I say this gym is the gym you need to go too. If your not looking to do MMA he also has a black belt in jujitsu so he also teaches those classes you will love them great hands on teaching. And once you build up some confidence and experience he will Corner you if it’s a fight or just a BJJ tournament. Must go!
Clean academy. Everyone is very friendly & helpful. I went in for BJJ but found myself adding the boxing & kickboxing on top of Jiujitsu. Classes are always different and a lot of fun. I've learned something new every day that I've gone. This is my first time going to actual classes and I'm sticking to it. The entire team is knowledgeable, motivating, and supportive. 10/10!
UCS is a great place to train and learn self-defense/competitive combat sports. Coach Jamar is a great instructor who teaches with care and takes lessons from his own experiences so that we can learn from them. The community at this gym is also great, and i have been able to make friends with everyone else that trains here. The more experienced people also like to help the newer people learn so that everyone can get better. In the 4 months that i have been here I have learned countless mma/jiu-jitsu techniques, I have learned great boxing techniques that i can practice every day with the other people that train here, and i have also become much more fit as a result of the training. I highly recommend training here, because you can learn so much, and you practice what you learn everyday that you train so you can perfect your technique as well as get more experience
Love this gym. People are awesome, coach Jamar is super friendly and loves to teach. If you want to learn self defense or just want to take your Muay Thai or Boxing skills to the next level this is the place to be.
I've been training at UCS for a couple months I've trained at other gyms and I finally found my home. Since training under professor jamar I feel like my jiu jitsu game has grown he really takes the time and effort to train his students. If you're looking to train hard or just pick up some skills and get in shape this a great place to come.Nothing but good vibes and good people.
Great place to train at! Been coming here for a couple of months. Jamar is the best instructor you could get! Everyone Here is friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend this place to train at!
I've been training with coach jamar for the last 6 years he's a great coach and mentor very knowledgeable about the sport we're always learning something new in the jujitsu classes or the boxing/kickboxing classes the environment at UCS is great everyone is there to help each other out and get better every day
UCS is the place to go to train if you want to get yourself to the next level in Jiujitsu, Muay Thai, and boxing. We have followed Jamar for the last 5 years, from Chino Hills, to Upland to now at his very own gym. UCS is the culmination of many years of deep thought and training, to develop a gym where you learn and excel in an environment of camaraderie and sportsmanship. Our daughter was 12 when she began her training with Jamar. Through the years she has become a disciplined, determined and accomplished fighter, under the tutelage of Jamar Ocampo. The gym is filled with individuals who come together like a family to support one another through thick and thin. If you want to experience excellence at its best, come join us at the University of Combat Sports!
Been here for two months and I already have noticed improvement on my boxing and just started getting into bjj, everyone knows there stuff and everyone treats each other like family
Incredible, one-of-a-kind school. One of the most clean, well maintained places I've seen. Jamar has a unique, effective teaching style and keeps standards for his students that produces quality results. This is the only place I go to train when I'm in town, and I'd recommend it to anybody looking for somewhere to train with a real passion for the art.
Been trainer for a few months and I have to say it's one of the best places I've ever trained at. I feel since coming here I've improved tenfold. Whether it's Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, kickboxing, Muay Thai or MMA, coach Jamar is one of the few instructors that will give his all even his secrets. Even if you're just looking to get in shape it's one of the best fitness regiments you can do to lose weight. The best part is there no egos at the gym, everyone there will help you learn. I recommend it 100%
Great place to train everyone is super helpful and friendly, there is no ego here at all. Since starting I feel like I have improved a lot and gotten a lot closer to my fitness goal
If you want to train wether for competition, self defense, or just for a workout this is the place. I come from a strict wrestling back ground and coach Jamar as well as the team mates here have helped me grow tremendously. Everyone here is family no douche bags no ego and has nothing but the best intentions to help you grow and succeed to achieve whatever goal you’re aiming for. This place has become a second home and helped in all aspects of my life. Come down take a class you won’t be disappointed.
Beautiful school! Jamar is an awesome teacher that explains techniques in a detailed manner that is very easy to understand. This is a great place to LEARN something new and get and an awesome workout in!
UCS is a great place to train. I have started my journey here and couldn’t be more happy and grateful. Professor Jamar is very knowledgeable and patient. The vibe at UCS is very family oriented and all egos are left outside. Whether you’re looking for a new place to train or have never trained before, I highly recommend coming to UCS.
Awesome place to train. Everyone here is friendly and very welcoming.
I’ve been in search of a Jit Jitsu school for the past month or so. I’ve checked out about 5 to 6 schools. To be honest, my lack of knowledge in this matter had me concerned since I wasn’t sure what I should be looking for. Luckily I was referred to UCS. The atmosphere and friendliness of everyone was great, and it was obvious that they have a great team. The school is super clean, organized, and safe. Coach Jamar has experience and knowledge which was evident as soon as he hit the mat. He was very informative, and even offered some suggestions on my concerns. He seems to have a great relationship with each of his students and is encouraging with all of them. Unfortunately for me I don’t live close to this school. But it has given me an ideal of a school. Now I know what I need to be looking for not only in a facility, and team atmosphere, but also what to look for in a Professor. This place is impressive. I would definitely be willing to make the drive out if I am unable to find a school up to par.
Jamar Ocampo is a great MMA, Boxing, KickBoxing instructor. He has great knowledge, he is patient. He knows when to push and overall is always a pleasure for me to train there. I have nothing but great comments as I found a place that is drama free, everybody gets along and jokes and feels like family. As well as the excellent training. Don’t hesitate to drop by and check it out. I know you won’t regret it.
This is a great MMA and fitness gym, I just recently started training here and have improved exponentially. There are people from all levels. Those who just started and others who are competing at a world class level. The gym has gi and no gi Brazilian jiu jitsu, boxing and kickboxing classes running multiple times a day every day of the week. What I like the most is the respectful atmosphere and the passion professor jamar has for teaching mma, and making sure everyone learns and improves which is something I had not seen at other gyms I had trained in the past.
Great place to train and great people to train with. Come check it out! The gym has a lot of classes, morning and night, so it works with anyone's schedule. Coach Jamar>anyone else
I been training with Couch Jalmar for about 6 month, and it's amazing on how my fitness level is higher than before. I really enjoy the kick boxing/ boxing class. Not only is it a great work out, but he teaches each class with something new Everyday!!
I’ve been training jiu jitsu for six years and have been to multiple academies all over California and UCS is by far one of the most cleanest and most professional places I’ve ever been to. UCS is a premier martial arts academy that provides high quality training in MMA, fitness, jiu jitsu, and boxing. Coach Jamar is very hands on when showing techniques and will help guide you through the movements. This is the best gym for both beginning and advanced students. The facility is very clean and everyone there is very nice and helpful; there are no egos.
I extremely recommend training in this amazing and beautiful facility. Coach Jamar Ocampo is an outstanding teacher who shares his knowledge and wisdom of a diverse array of martial arts and fitness and leads his students as a family oriented group that pushes and supports each other.
This place is the best for BJJ, kick boxing and private lessons . Super friendly and clean. Everyone is so helpful and always making me feel welcome and not like a newbie. Love all of the different classes that fit my busy schedule and the drive from chino is nothing at all.
For sure the best place to train in the area. Jamar is a great coach who seems to truely care for you to improve. His lessons are well thought out and instructed clearly and coherantly. If ever you dont show up for a while, like i do from time to time, you'll get a motivational or "quit being lazy" text to get you back in the gym. I believe having a great coach is important but it is just as important to have a great team. A great team will help make corrections as needed and push your training while not trying to hurt you, this what youll find at theus gym.Jamars genuine personality and caliber as coach has fostered a great team that will boost your learnings.
Great team, great instructor! We are definitely a team that helps each other become better martial artists!! I can attest to that since I started out my BJJ adventure with coach Jamar and the gang, and I feel like I'm getting better every time I'm there!!
I've been training with jamar for 8 years. Over the 8 years I've made great friends who I call family. The love for the art has kept me fit physically and mentally. We push each other on and off the mat. Check our ego at the door as we enter the gym.
Great place to train in MMA or SELF DEFENSE !!! Whether your new or experienced this place will add depth to your current ability. I take the jiu-jitsu classes and my game has progressed immensely. One of the great facets of this gym is not only the instructors but also the students. No chips on anyone's shoulder, everyone spars smooth and in control. Also on any given night there are multiple white belts, blue belts, purple belts, and so on. So no matter what the talent level you posses there are challenges. So if you want to learn the de la heva, x-guard, rubber guard, butterfly sweeps, or countless choke or body locks try a class, have fun, boost your cardio, and learn a effective self defense... Bring your kids to!!!!
If your looking to improve your fitness and have fun while doing so this gym is for you. Multitude of classes in Brazilian jujitsu, submission wrestling, kickboxing, boxing etc. Whatever your skill level their is something here for you, whether your just starting out or your a world class performer, this gym will help you get to that next level. This facility has a open, friendly, family styled atmosphere that'll you'll notice right away.
Whether you are a beginner, intermediate, advanced or pro, UCS MMA has the curriculum that suits you. Great instruction, family environment, and clean. You will get in great shape and learn solid, practical, MMA skills.
I've trained at UCS with Professor Jamar Ocampo for the past 3 years and have grown both as a person and a martial artists. His instruction is extremely thorough and he does well tailoring each technique to your specific body type. The environment is respectful and friendly and you will find lasting bonds rather than your typical fight gym where people are only set to hurt you. This community is truly focused in supporting you not only as a fighter but as an individual focusing on holistic improvement. All are welcome as this gym proves to be an extremely diverse and inclusive environment.
I wish I could give UCS a 10 star rating. Ive been training with Coach Jamar for about 8 years now. UCS is the place be. No egos, everyone pushes each other and everyone helps each other. Great group of students, positive vibes and great coaching. Coach Jamar takes the time to break everything down for you and to answer any questions that may have. This academy is not just a typical fighters gym. You can do everything here, you can train like a professional fighter, train for self defense or just train for fun.
Coach Jamar makes UCS an outstanding place to learn real martial arts. Whether you're a beginner or if you have experience UCS is a great place to train because of the quality instruction and people who train there. Coach Jamar teaches things in a systemized way that makes classes fun, engaging and the techniques really stick with you. There is no ego or fakeness here. Training at UCS will improve your life in many ways beyond physical fitness.
See below for tl;dr One thing that sets UCS and Jamar apart from other schools is that there is an actual curriculum for what he teaches. For those new to jiu jitsu, it can be very frustrating when you first start because it seems like the instructor is teaching whatever he/she feels like that week or day. With Jamar there is a progression of events. Positions and sequences you learn one week flow into the next and you begin to see the actual underlying principles of the art. This allows beginners to much more easily improve and helps more advanced students begin to develop their own style. The same applies to the striking program which is something I have never seen. I have trained at four other places before and there is a reason why UCS is now my home. In addition, the gym is a mix of active competitors and those who just love the various aspects of MMA (striking/grappling). New members are not just used as practice dummies and more experienced guys are always taking time to help. There is a solid group of guys (including myself) that have followed Jamar for years and they are partners who you can trust are not out to hurt you to advance themselves. Jamar himself is an excellent teacher who is able to break down seemingly complex techniques, constantly watches out for both the health and progress of his students, and has actually used what he teaches. Lastly, there are day and evening classes for people with off schedules and the facilities are clean and well maintained. tl;dr -actual curriculum so you're not just learning random moves every class -great training partners who aren't just trying to use you as their practice dummy -legitimate coaches who teach for more than just sport and offer true mixed martial arts -clean facility with morning and night classes
My mixed martial arts journey definitely started with my coach/friend/brother Jamar Ocampo. Throughout the years he has definitely honed my skills. Ive won competitions with jamar. From BJJ,Nogi, boxing and kickboxing he is able teach all at a high level. Univesity of combat sports (UCS) is a great place to train at if your looking for a mixed martial arts academy. The academy has a great set of training partners , great group of guys with colored belts. The academy is open to all, everyone is willing to help a new student. Everyone treats each other like family. I have been coached by jamar for many years. For me this is the place to be.Come try it out and see for yourself.
UCS is the must be place for me. I've trained with Coach Jamar Ocampo for a while now and he most definitely has a gift for teaching. He breaks down the techniques in a way that is relatable and understandable to his students. That ability coupled with the fun and family like culture in the gym makes UCS the premier gym to train martial arts. UCS is a place where moves are learned, skills are honed, and friendships are made all through the bond of training hard and having a good time. It is truly an amazing place to train in every sense, so I highly recommend anyone to come and check it out.
Very good place to have fun, get an amazing workout and learning martial arts for all skill levels. This place is full of legit high level instructors teaching MMA, muay thai kickboxing, gi and no-gi Brazilian jiu-jitsu. The instructors here are very technical and are constantly providing helpful feedback for self improvement. The daily schedule is jam packed such that each class is offered multiple times a day, every day. So if you miss a class because something came up, you can take the same class the next day. In addition, this gym is kept very clean.
