Teachers are wonderful for small people just starting out and learning the basics. Very calm with strong communication skills. My 3 year old is loving it!

We’ve been going to Trifecta for more than 5 years. At first our daughter was doing taekwondo and everything was fine but then we moved her to BJJ. We noticed a regular change of teacher, which we accepted and stuck with despite other kids in the class leaving to other schools. We wondered why good teachers all seem to leave. Then we had coach Munchi. We have been sending our daughter and son regularly and didn’t see any real progress. We started to attend the lessons to see what was happening. Basically if the kid doesn’t pay attention or has any problem with focus, the coach is ignoring them/light touch. He has in general limited awareness for the kids. We have seen on several occasions parents asking him to move their kids as they were too close to an other kid or even to the wall and could hurt themselves. Today, our 5 yo son had a meltdown over his outfit. As we were there, we tried to deal with it. Then, he didn’t want to wear his mask as it was wet from his tears. The coach ignored him and only took care of the child who was not crying. He eventually said he would get an other mask for our son but didn’t get up. When we got tired of this very unprofessional attitude and an argument started about how he would do if we were not around given it’s a drop off class and the coach was telling us it was not his job to manage a kid (?!), he got up and started to be very aggressive, telling me, a woman who’s never done martial art, to step outside to sort it out between us, and being extremely close and threatening to me, to the point the other staff present at that time had to ask him to step back. We cancelled the membership straight away and will go somewhere else where they don’t have anger management issues. We know understand why very often our children were the only children in the class.

Trifecta is a good family orientated club. My two sons and wife are now all on their martial arts journey. Professional staff with a passion for teaching, a good booking system coupled with a teaching method that develops values and not just fighting contribute to the positive ongoing affiliation we have with the club.

I wouldn’t recommend this place. Not that the regular coach was a problem, but it was clear to me that the owners don’t have student welfare or customer service in mind. I joined the school in late April 2022 and was happy to learn BJJ from the regular coach, but then September came and he had to follow students out for competition. They got a replacement coach to take over for the session I joined. The coach was not watching the sparring session between me and my partner. He was doing his own sparring with someone else. That’s how I fractured my ankle. The coach didn’t even come 3 feet of me to inspect my injury but declared that I was fine because I could walk straight. Anyone who has had a fracture or handled one before would know what could have been done to make sure it wasn’t a simple sprain. How was a noob like me or any other white belt in that vicinity who has never dealt with a fracture before supposed to know what a fracture felt like or looked like? We aren’t experienced and looked to the coach to guide us. Sadly, I had a negligent coach that day, which essentially means they don’t QC their replacement coaches. Then came the second part of my bad experience. I was at the a&e sorting out my fractured ankle that turned out to be a ‘complicated fracture’ due to the load I put on the ankle. I texted the admin to let them know of the situation and to freeze my account because it was the same day my membership fees were due. I only found out a week later that the money had already been deducted while I was busy sorting out my ankle. I texted the admin about it and the owner had refused to refund me the membership fees. I kept pushing for the refund because essentially I was to be out of a job for 3 to 6 months. I’m a freelancer. If I can’t physically work, I don’t get paid. Up until the day I had my surgery done to my ankle, I was still going back and forth with them about the $200 refund. I even sent them my doctor’s letters regarding the diagnosis and the surgery date. Finally after almost a week after my surgery, the owner agreed but wanted me to absorb a 10% bank transfer fee. Whether it was actually 10% or not, I leave that to whoever reads this to decide. But fine, I told them I would absorb it because it was still money and when you have zero income, every cent counts. But then it took them about 1.5months of dragging it out just to transfer me back the money. It took them 1.5hours to transfer me my money after I sent them a text message to chase for it, but it took them 1.5months to actually give it back to me. It’s a martial arts school, accidents are bound to happen, but why can’t they reduce the risk of accidents from happening by taking the time to QC their coaches? And when an accident happens, why can’t they return the membership money instead of giving the student such grief? When I’m fully recovered next year, I won’t be going back to this school. Never again, really. Not when this is how they treat their students.

I went for their Krav Maga trial programme! Instructor Marco is clearly a passionate and committed coach and overall it was a nice environment to train in :) thanks for the experience!
