I have been a part of this community for the past 2 and 1/2 years of my life and in that time not only my skills in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai have improved but I was able to be build connections with so many parts of the distinct Madison's groups that truly represent the city. Team Curran is a place where discipline, hard work, and community become contagious aspects of life, because the people there understand that life demands of you a great deal and having strong, determined people backing you up whether it be on the mat or outside of it can be a life changing type of support, they will make you feel welcome and work with you to be as successful a martial artist you desire and are willing to be.

Team Curran Madison is a wonderful Jiu jitsu gym, owned by Billie and Ashlynn Buss, and they are part of Jeff Curran's affiliation. My Jiu jitsu journey started at one of Jeff's affiliated gym, Cedar Valley Jiu Jitsu in Waterloo, Iowa, and whenever I travel to work, Team Curran Madison would let me drop-in and train with them. I've been going to this gym for about 7 months for JuiJitsu. I am greatful to have found this place. The community atmosphere is unmatched anywhere else I've been. I've also had the opportunity to train with high calibur members and excellent coaches. I frequently feel the level of training as if it was one on one. Everyone has great conviction to the art while still maintaining a safe place to train. I'm still a white belt but plan to keep going here for a long time. Also, I hope to get my kids to come here as it is great for kids as well.

My kids absolutely love training at Team Curran. They've made great friendships with the other kids, which says a lot about the culture coach Billie has worked to develop here. It didn't take too long before I got hooked and started training in Jiu Jitsu as well. I highly recommend bringing your kids here, they'll learn much more than a highly efficient Martial art. They learn about life, situational awareness, and how to be a good friend.

My daughter has been attending Team Curran Madison classes for about a year now (started when she was 6years old), and I can not give enough praise for both the instructors and the environment that they create. She is learning the technical aspects of BJJ, but equally important at this age, learning confidence and building friendships in a supportive and encouraging space. This is a true community (she often stays late to play with classmates), and watching the older kids support the younger is a beautiful thing! I would encourage anyone who is on the fence about starting their kids at any kind martial arts/gym to at least visit Team Curran Madison to check it out.

I started training at Team Curran November of 2020 at 44 years old. I had no previous Jiu Jitsu or wrestling experience and was worried about re-injuring previous back/hip injuries, but I had wanted to study BJJ my whole life and figured it was now or never. What I found at Team Curran was the most amazing, hard working, and kind group of people I've ever seen assemble in one room (and also a guy named Don, but he's easy to ignore). The instruction is amazing and so many guys and gals there are absolute rock stars on the mats, it's such a great environment to learn in due to how much talent and experience is in the group. It's been about 1.5 years since I joined and my only regret is that I didn't do it earlier in my life. My body is stronger than ever, and I've lost over 10 pounds. About a year ago my 6 YO daughter started training there as well and absolutely loves it. Team Curran 100%

The BEST BJJ school around. The instructors are super knowledgeable, friendly and patient with beginners. It's a really fun group to train with. Everyone trains hard but banter and jokes fly freely while everyone works to improve their game. The more senior students are also always willing to help you better yourself. I absolutely love this gym and would 110% recommend joining.

As a younger and smallish female, my first intention on joining this gym was really only to learn some basic self defense. I thought that would probably be the single greatest benefit of training for someone like me, but what I’ve found is much more than just that. It’s a community of authentic and supportive people, a soul tribe. There are some big, fast, tough, smart savages on these mats. But they’re also my big-hearted teddy bear brothers, who I know would never hurt me. It’s place to exercise and strengthen the body and mind, to challenge and evolve the spirit. When I started two years ago, I never imagined I’d be training this hard, and even competing. We’ve got a pretty large girl squad on the mats who’s always lifting each other up, pushing each other to be our best. And simply put, jiu jitsu is the most fun game I have ever played. It’s chess, but with the body. Our coaches do an amazing job emphasizing proper technique and mechanics, and keeping the atmosphere fun and light hearted. They truly embody the gentile art that is jiu jitsu. Please, come see for yourself!

If you want to become a savage on the mat (and in life) then you need to stop making excuses and start training here. Billie and Ashlynn are the kind of mentors that you want in your life. After a long career or wrestling and coaching I decided to step onto the mat to learn about bjj. They were so welcoming from day one. The team atmosphere is top notch. I went from knowing little to nothing about this sport to having it be my absolute passion. I couldn’t imagine training anywhere else or having the success I have had with out them. Great atmosphere, great people, great training, can't beat this place. All the tough competition makes you a great athlete and gives you a lot of confidence in your game. Gold medals fly around this gym. Super family friendly too! As for the CrossFit side I don't think there's a better place to train, ESPECIALLY if your new. These beasts will turn your health around as long as you put in the effort, they'll help you with the rest.

Absolutely fun and amazing place to learn the gentle art of jujitsu. I’m here only because of attending a free Self Defense Workshop that Coaches Billie and Ash and volunteers from Team Curran did as a free community service. I went to support a few other individuals who needed self-defense training …. and left fascinated with what the gentle art of Jiu Jitsu ( can do as demonstrated by Team Curran. To my great surprise-it was fun. I needed to try it! And so I am! With a coach and team mates ( in a family friendly environment) who encourage challenge and guide (without being scary). It’s a place you want to go to…welcoming, friendly yet serious about getting you up to the best you can be.

We enrolled our (then 10 yr old) daughter in the juniors class over a year ago. We wanted her to have more self confidence and know that she could defend herself if she needed to. My daughter has been a member of Team Curran Madison for nearly a year. It has been amazing to watch her confidence grow, not only on the mat, but off as well. She started out going to jiu-jitsu junior's classes and loved them so much that she decided to start going to the fundamentals classes as well. Owners/Head Coaches Billie and Ashlynn are not only very knowledgeable, but just as importantly, are also great teachers. They are supported by a great squad of experienced coaches who are always willing to help. From day one, the friendly and family oriented atmosphere has truly been a great place to learn and grow for my daughter. My 6 year old son really wanted to take Jiu Jitsu, but he was very anxious the first time he showed up. Coach Billie was super patient and welcoming, letting my son start by doing things with me on the mat until he felt more comfortable. He and the other coaches have all been super kind, welcoming, and gentle when working with the young kids. Now my son loves going there and is confident when he goes out to join the other kids. I moved to Madison from Iowa. I was worried I’d never find a gym like my “old” gym. I tried out a few Madison gyms before finding CrossFit Citrine. Citrine immediately made me feel welcome. I noticed an immediate difference from other gyms I’d checked out in the area! The coaches focus on form to avoid injury and in turn build you into a better athlete. This is something that I didn’t get at many other gyms. Citrine is great for athletes of all fitness levels and all fitness goals! There’s athletes just trying to better there overall health to athletes training to compete! Citrine welcomes all!

My 4 year old daughter has been training at Team Curran Madison since she was 3 and absolutely LOVES it!! Owner/Coach Billie and his wife Coach Ashlynn, along with all the other teachers are absolutely fantastic at working with students of all ages. They are incredibly passionate about what they do- teaching not only the physical skills involved in martial arts, but life skills that help every student to be the best they can be on and off the mats. I'm thrilled that my daughter is learning to respect herself and others, while being active and having fun! I just can't recommend this school or its instructors highly enough!!

Amazing! Extremely relaxed and friendly atmosphere of learning self-defense! Easy to understand if not questions are always explained fully. Ashley, Billie and many others that train there do an amazing job making sure you feel welcome and no pressure! I love that the first three sessions are free! So you can really know if you want to do this, and it seems to be cheaper than other places! There's no contracts! It's amazing Come As You Are and enjoy yourself :)

The owner, Billie, met with my son to see if we wanted to proceed with training. Billie’s enthusiasm and warmth won us over right away. My son trained for awhile, and I soon found myself going to classes. It’s been fantastic, from striking to ground work with the BJJ classes I can say my martial arts game is very complete. Training with my martial arts friends is the highlight of my week. Highly recommend this place.
