Visiting a friend in Imperial Beach for a few days and I was keen to get some Nogi practice in, but I didn’t think I’d be able to make the time. Luckily, Southshore Jiu Jitsu was right around the corner from where I stayed, so I was able to drop in twice during my time in Imperial Beach! Shawn and Ronnie run a great academy, and I had a great time during both of the classes I attended. Despite knowing no-one there, people were happy to pair up during drilling, and during live rolls, it was easy to find partners. Not only that, but everyone was very accommodating to my newbie skill set. There were no egos, and everyone was looking out for their partner’s wellbeing. Shawn and Ronnie clearly cultivate an atmosphere of camaraderie and mutual support & respect at their academy, and on top of that, both guys were extremely friendly. I don’t know the next time I’ll be in Imperial Beach, but I DO know where I’ll go for Jiu Jitsu when am.

The instructor's are top notch 100%. I've known the "Major" brother's since 1998 when I met them from Highschool wrestling. I have absolute respect and love for the amazing talent and skills both of them have but most of all they're the best Jiu-Jitsu wrestling grappling individuals that I've ever known they have undeniable talent there amazing teachers and both of them are such wonderful teachers to their students.

Honestly the best place for learning Jiu Jitsu & Mix Martial Arts! Ronnie and Shawn Major are amazing to work with. Very down to earth and up beat 😃🙌 Would highly recommend if anyone is looking for a place to train.

My wife, son, and myself have been training here since 2023 and it’s changed our lives completely. Ronnie and Shawn and the entire team are one of a kind people you won’t find anywhere else. Regardless if you’re a beginner or an upper belt, they will mentor you and treat you like one of their own.
Love this gym! Ronnie and Shawn are amazing professors and make South Shore a super friendly, family oriented environment. I love how welcoming everyone is here but also everyone trains really hard as well. I’m taking adult classes and will be enrolling my children once they get a little older. Do not hesitate to check South Shore out!

I cannot say enough positive things about this gym and the owners. Ronnie and Sean truly love what they do and care about each individual student. I’ve gone to a jujutsu gym before and nobody gives the treatment and has the amount of passion that these guys have. If you’re looking for a gym, this is the place.

The absolute best BJJ and Muay Thai gym in IB. These guys raise champions on the mats and in their lives outside of the mats. Highly recommend them to train your little ones into future champions. Laid back positive vibes, everyone is friendly and the facility is spacious, professional and clean.
I attended a class at South Shore Jiu Jitsu while visiting San Diego for work. From start to finish, Professors Shawn and Ronnie were exceptionally welcoming, helpful, and engaging. The class was so great. Everyone I trained with was friendly and technical. Got some very helpful feedback along the way. Highly recommend the gym as a place to train. Already looking forward to visiting again when back in town. Update in 2024. Visited again while in town for work, and great experience once more. Professor Ronnie and everyone was very welcoming and helpful. Had such a great time training here. Will definitely be visiting again.
