As someone who has been to many gyms, in many different places. I can wholeheartedly recommend SBG. I popped in for a class while on vacation. They have a great atmosphere, the staff are top notch and the community is special. If you are looking for a gym to learn and grow with, look no further.

I spent a summer training here In 2024 I have since been moving fairly regularly to different parts of the country. My biggest concern in moving is that I will never be able to find another jiu-jitsu gym like SBG! Coach Michael is awesome and Cole at the front desk is an amazing training partner! Every time I’m back in Montana, I will come back here to train!

SBG has been an incredible space and community to get back into BJJ. I first knew about SBG from Daniel, and finally rejoined the foundations classes with Michael and Jake. Cole was welcoming, informative, and helpful in exploring my options. I've since committed to come more regularly to foundations and private trainings with Michael, and it's been incredible. The whole team here is top-tier. The culture is inclusive, collaborative, educational, and competitive in the best way. I've been to other gyms and had decent experiences, but SBG Whitefish stands out above the rest. I loved it so much, I ended up bringing my 3 kids and brother-in-law for an introductory private with Michael, and they were hooked. I can't wait to keep growing in the sport, and more specifically at SBG Whitefish. Thank you for rekindling my love for this sport and sparking my desire to develop my BJJ skills.

SBG Whitefish exceeded all expectations. Michael was incredibly welcoming and professional, creating a positive and respectful training environment. The gym culture is great and the facility includes a nice lifting area which was spotless and well-maintained. A fantastic place for anyone looking to train martial arts!

I visited for a day with a friend of mine while visiting from Seattle. This is a great gym and friendly group of training partners! Michael was super friendly and welcoming. His instruction was well thought out and easy to understand. Thanks for the session!

Top notch gym! Best gym in the area for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for Kids and Adults; gi or no gi. Also features a fantastic Muay Thai Kickboxing program.
Vacationing or a permanent move SBG has the best teachers, coaches, and practitioners around. Very versatile and great at breaking down fundamentals. This is the gym to join and grow with!!
An amazing small place! The coaches are all awesome at teaching the kids in terms and ways they understand with firmness and discipline. It has been an absolute amazing transformation in our child's confidence of her physical ability and ability to adapt and try new things. It's been so good!
Dropped into a fundamentals class while on vacation. I was really impressed with the facility: good quality mats and super clean. The instructor did a great job teaching both technique and underlying concepts. Everyone was very welcoming. I will definitely be back the next time I am in the area.

Great facility, friendly staff. My son loved the kids class- Stella mixed in a lot of games and involved the technical skills making it a lot of fun.
Hands down one of the best decisions I've made in my adult life was to train jiu jitsu at SBG. So empowering and a lot of fun. The coaches are here to make you a better version of yourself but without pressure or stress. Since moving out of Montana I still come back most summers and make a stop at SBG just to train with them. If you're thinking about it just go for it!
As a 20 year Jiu Jitsu practitioner, I have to say that SBG Whitefish was An amazing experience! Very friendly, extremely clean, excellent technique, and highly professional. When traveling through Northwest Montana I will always stop here.
My wife and I were visiting the Whitefish area and decided to drop in. Nothing but good things to say. Gym very clean coaches are humble. Was a good variety of skill level on the mats . Plenty of round's. Great Vibes ! Check them out ! They have showers with slides and towels !

I went there today as a total stranger from a different country and Both Daniel and Michael were awesome to deal with. They were so easy going and down to earth, There teaching style and knowledge are also top notch. Do not hesitate to go there to train if you are in the area. I have been training for 13 years in various locations and this is by far top of the class for me.
My year at SBG was amazing. All the coaches are great. The classes are very flexible to fit any schedule. The whole gym feels like a family. Everyone is so nice and makes you feel comfortable. They have lots of opportunities with seminars frequently and an in house tournament to get comfortable with competing. I absolutely love SBG Whitefish.

I did a couple of drop in jiujitsu classes over the Christmas holidays as we were spending a week in the area. Can’t say enough good things about the gym and the coaches. I was made to feel welcome right from the get go. Whether you’re someone passing through the area or a local who’s thinking of getting into a martial art I cannot recommend this place enough. Give them a shot and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. Personally I cannot wait to go do some more classes there again the next time I’m in the area.

It was an honor to be able to train at this gym while visiting on vacation. The gym had a great vibe and no egos. The coaches and students were very friendly and made you feel welcome. The coaches were great! The classes were well structured and full of good knowledge and instruction. I couldn’t recommend this place enough. Great place to train! I have been training for 17 years and was lucky enough to train here with my wife while in town for vacation. The staff was very welcoming. Facility is first rate - clean, nice locker room, weight room and heavy bags. Instruction was sharp - picked up a couple nice details from the coaches. If you live in whitefish you are already lucky, even more that you get to train with this crew.

I’ve been doing jiu jitsu for nearly 20 years and own an academy outside of Seattle. I’ve been doing jiu jitsu for long enough to know the most important aspect of an academy isn’t how good anyones jiu jitsu is but rather the vibe and culture they create on their mats. SBG Whitefish has the best of both worlds. Professor Daniel is clearly a wealth of knowledge. He taught me some great details on guard pulling and sweeping a standing opponent while simultaneously having nothing but positive energy and building a welcoming environment. I visit Montana often and SBG will be my home away from home when I’m visiting 👊🏼🙏🏻
I've been in law enforcement for 20+ years. The last 3 years training at SBG Whitefish has definitely improved how I deal with potentially dangerous people I come across on the job. I had a potentially dangerous encounter recently, but the skills I've developed over the last three years created a level of confidence beyond what i though i was capable of. This encounter had the potential to turn violent, but I found myself calmer than i have ever been in my career. The mental aspect of training mixed martial arts has definitely put me in a place where I'm less likely to use or quickly transition to higher levels of force knowing that I have the hand to hand combat skills to defend myself. Got to train here for a week while visiting the area. This place is legit. Everyone i met and rolled with were wonderful people. The mats and facility are top notch. Most of the classes i attended were with Coach Dan. His classes were both eye opening and enjoyable. Also Jits with Hits was a new experience for me and i would recommend it to anyone who trains BJJ to try it. Thank you Coach Dan and Coach Michael for welcoming me in for the time i spent at your gym and for sure would train here again if i am in the area.
I dropped in for a nogi class while visiting a friend. The place was clean and everyone was very friendly. Detailed instruction and everyone was willing to roll with the visitor, even the black belt instructor. Thanks for letting me come roll guys!

I can’t say enough about how awesome this place is. The coaches and staff are amazing role models for our kids and ourselves. This gym is also immaculately clean! My kids are constantly spilling water on the floor and when I wipe it up with a paper towel I can tell you that floor is CLEAN! My kids and I take several of their classes and they are great but also challenging at the same time. Staff is professional , friendly and helpful. It’s an awesome tribe to be a part of. ❤️
The best decision I have ever made was to join SBG! The values I've learned from their programs were so helpful at a very intrical turning point in my life! I am greatful for the coaching staff and teammates I have the pleasure of seeing on a daily basis and also the ones that I only get to see now and then if you haven't checked out SBG yet you are missing out !

Fun and competitive the comradery here in the martial arts program is great! The coaching staff is friendly and experienced and spend their lives continuing to develop their knowledge and understanding to share and teach to the tribe. And the yoga program is unlike anything I'd ever seen, using anatomy and research they practice Iyengar yoga to develop a strong skeletal muscular structure, helpful in maintaining a strong aging body. I feel strong, confident and proud to say I train here. Thank you guys!
Cannot recommend SBG Whitefish enough. Extremely clean, great training mates, and high-level instruction with Coach Daniel. In short, the gym was super welcoming and made us feel like family. If you’re simply visiting Whitefish or looking for a new place to train, I highly recommend a visit.
As a smaller female, I’m usually hesitant to try new gyms while traveling, but at SBG I was immediately welcomed and felt comfortable training with everyone in the gym. Excellent instruction from coach Daniel. Highly recommend!

Been meaning write this review for a while: What can I say? We have a world class BJJ school right here in Whitefish, MT. Like so many others, you'll begin wanting self defense and realize it becomes more about physical fitness goals and mental health. The staff and coaches are uber-professional. The owners' passion is absolutely transparent.
I've trained in a lot of different martial arts gyms, and have NEVER been a part of a community of people that is this close-knit. The coaches, and even the owners, really go out of their way to let me know that they care about my success and not just my money. I've been spoiled, and I don't think I'll ever be ever to train anywhere else now.
SBG Whitefish is an amazing place to learn new things with new people. The coaches are excellent, always looking out for your best interest in martial arts. They keep you motivated and make sure to push you hard all the while in a fun environment! Highly reccomend taking classes and joining the tribe! “One tribe, One vibe”
We have been members of SBG in Whitefish since the very beginning. Their classes, coaches and staff are top notch. They have taught both my husband and I as well as both of our children so much from jiu jitsu, yoga, fitness, striking and judo. We enjoy everything they have to offer.
I love training here. Coach Dan is awesome. He brings a great attitude to classes that makes me excited to train. As a smaller guy in grappling it's nice to not worry about some huge wrestler smashing you during regular class. I would recommend over and over.
Incredibly knowledgeable coaching staff, who come from both a jiu jitsu and yoga pedigree that is world-renowned. Classes are accessible, well-structured, and masterfully taught. Cannot be recommended highly enough.
I've been training at the Kalispell SBG location for some time now and Travis, Kisa and the SBG team have created a wonderful, fun and inclusive martial arts community for the entire family. My time at SBG has enriched my life as it has for many others. Good people that know their martial arts, but the business end of things has some questionable and, in my opinion, dishonest practices. Really disappointing ending with them.
